This is a vintage SANYO M9927K AM/FM Stereo Cassette Tape Recorder. The old school boombox that I found at a thrift shop. SANYO is easy to make modification for adding Bluetooth receiver. All you need to do is find a power source from radio tuning circuit board, use it to power up the Bluetooth module along with groundloop noise insulator. This size of boombox uses 9V power, so step it down to 5V with a car USB adaptor which you can buy at the $1 shop. Enjoy!!

There are line-in jacks that can detect when something is plugged in. In their normal state (unplugged), you can connect up to three wires as pass-through. When something gets plugged in, the three wires break, and now the three connections from the plug will pass through instead. This will make your Bluetooth mod perfectly invisible to the system - AUX will play Bluetooth when nothing is plugged in, or will play whatever is plugged in. No drilling or case modification needed.

Hi, stabgod. Thank you for your valuable comments. By the way, some of the AUX is only for the recording, if so I hacked into radio circuit to put Bluetooth signal. If there is a selector switch for the AUX, then I use AUX to tap into for Bluetooth signal. PS: AUX only for the recording is, only when recording music from AUX to cassette tape, you can hear the music. Otherwise, there is no way to listen music from AUX.

Seems like I've missed out on your videos recently; Good to see one. I like how you often work on the stuff that us mere mortals actually owned back in the day By the way, I've noticed that while radios from the 1940s get lots of love from repairers, the record changer/radio combos from the era are mostly neglected. My next project is a General Electric 304 that someone took all of the tubes out and the nobs off. I hope to save it from the salvage bin and get it back running.

Hi, thank you for the compliment on my video. Wow, GE 304 restoration, I am sure you will have a great time with it. I have similar model from Victor RCA which has tubes inside and very heavy tonearm. I just have been kept it in my garage and hoping someday in the future, I will be able to restore tube radios and turntables.

I love the video, thumbs up and subscribed! I've just picked one of these up at a garage sale for $5, and would love to do this mod down the line but for now would be very happy with a line in jack. What pins on the circuit board did you wire the audio out from the bluetooth receiver to? I'm assuming it was somewhere on the tape deck circuit? Thanks so much for posting this!
@teddyhashee
@teddyhashee 7 жыл бұрын
Hi, thank you for your comment. If the boombox has not selection switch for the line in, you can not use it for the Bluetooth input. Because that line in jack is probably for the cassette recording from other music gear. If you use such a line in for the Bluetooth, only way you can hear the music will be recording that music with cassette deck. So what I did was tapped into radio music signal pin, and used it for Bluetooth input. I used 6 pin toggle switch, with this switch, when I turn on the Bluetooth power, at the same time I disconnect music signal from Radio tuning circuits to amp circuits. In this way, you can high jack the radio signal by Bluetooth signal. There is no conflict between radio signal and Bluetooth signal. Teddy!

I have the same radio and am attempting a similar modification. I am unable to determine the function of each of the five wires going to the radio receiver.

I did not make note about it, so I can not show you the plan. But that 5 lines, 2 of them are positive and negative for 9V (or less 9V) supply from Amp to Tuner. These lines will provide the power to the tuner. 2 lines of other 3, one is Left and other is Right sound signal. The last one should be Ground for the sound signal, or for LED. I always test like this way. Power on the radio, and remove one of the line, if the radio sound off, that means it will be either Positive/Negative lines or Ground. If the one sound from one speaker is off, that means it will be either Left or Right sound signal line. Then you can use multimeter to find 9 V power lines. Also you can connect music line, let's say Left and ground signals to 2 of these 5 lines. It will not break any circuits, but there will be noise if you choose wrong one. If you hit the correct one, you will hear the nice sound from speaker. In order to high jack the radio sound, you want to kill the power to the tuner at the same time when you turn on the Bluetooth power. You can use 6 pins toggle switch in order to achieve this. Teddy

I had no idea when I started to restore vintage item. Since I have been selling them online, I did restoration more than enough time to find out what need to be done for reviving these vintage items. So I know you can learn it too, the best knowledge will come most from your success and failed experience done by yourself. Go for it and enjoy restoration.

Is there any way this modification will work on a Sanyo M7030 boombox? I have an old one lying about that I would love to use
@teddyhashee
@teddyhashee 6 жыл бұрын
Small boombox has one compact circuit board that is a little difficult to find out which is the radio signal. So that makes a little difficult for Bluetooth signal to tap into the radio signal. In that case I think the best way is tap into the volume pod for the Bluetooth mod. You can find many videos that modified radio to the guitar amp. I think you can use such an idea for your boombox mod.

Externally very very clean. Cassette and radio dial clean with good antenna. I looked inside today. It gets power but the cassette motor changes speed and doesn't seem to put enough power out to send a signal to the speakers. I think It seems to be a loose or bad connection issue on the part of the electric coming into the amp. The cassette motor moves under both battery and electrical power but like I said no sound out of the speakers. nothing out of the radio at all.

When you turn the volume controller up or down, do you hear scratching noise instead of music?
@toddhamm7396
@toddhamm7396 6 жыл бұрын
I hear nothing at all. I don't think its getting enough power to power up the amp. I think there is a lose connection possibly. Not sure what going on with it. if you have an email I can send you picks of it with the front cover off so you can see the electronics
@teddyhashee
@teddyhashee 6 жыл бұрын
When you looked inside, did you remove the screws and remove the back or front of the body to see inside? If so, did you see the lines from speakers to the amp board was connected securely? If the power is not enough to spin the motor correctly or pushing sound signal to the amp as you said, there might be a problem with power source(AC to DC converter). However, when it is using batteries instead of AC, and still same problem persist, then there could be a problem with somewhere in the circuit board.

Is it possible to upgrade to better speakers?
@teddyhashee
@teddyhashee 7 жыл бұрын
I believe so. Same size, same ohm, and high quality speaker can be used instead of original one, I have not tried it yet though.
@stabgod
@stabgod 6 жыл бұрын
"Better" speakers will probably be heavier and tuned to lower frequencies. Make sure the ohm rating is the same or you will fry your amplifier. Go for a full-range speaker as it will need to handle all audible frequencies. Look for automotive speakers as they will better suit your needs.

Thanks! In this film I used an old sony camcorder. In my mind, I knew I needed to have a good quality camcorder to film my work. Then my son bought super high quality camera for himself and he gave his old HD JVC camcorder to me. So recent videos filmed with this HD camera is in much better quality. Anyway, I should buy my NEW and more high quality camera by myself. Thanks again!

Hi, Michael. As you said I have been used very old camcorder from Sony that was once my son's. When he bought his new one it became mine. And recently my son bought another super high quality camcorder, his JVC camcorder is mine now. I know I should buy good one by myself though. The Bluetooth addition, it is simple. I just try to find the radio signal line and hijacked it with Bluetooth. When the Bluetooth power on, I cut the radio signal, so the only Bluetooth signal goes into the amp and you can hear the nice music. I used LED, car usb charger as for the 5V step down converter, etc.

Oh, Michael. Please don't. I am the man just always love used item that including my tools and parts. The camera is one of my tool and I just wanted to keep its live extend by using it. But as you said, for the viewer's sake, I should upgrade it. Right now JVC is kind of HD camera and picture is much better then before. Thanks again for your kindness.
