It's Sapporo Central Wholesale Market - I chose that one because it's supposed to be less touristy than Nijo Market. Most of the shops aimed for the public are on Soen-Hassamu Dori Ave, in the yellowish area on Google Maps.

@@cakeswithfaces Thank you for comment back. I think as you say, it's true. The fishes that live in northern sea have much fat for alive in cold water. The fat is very important for ingredients taste. (But, it's not healthy.😁) I can't hold to eat delicious foods ! Please have fun !

I used to live in a place relatively close to the coast on sea of Japan in the northern area where fishermen’s markets are available in any fishery port. I am wondering why foreign tourists love eating conveyer sushi in Shibuya, which is the craziest thing. Shibuya is the furthest place from fresh fish. Even first time traveller can find the Odawara port fishermen’s market available because if they go to Hakone , you can’t go there without dropping off at Odawara. Eating sushi in kyoto is another crazy thing. Sushi that most of people outside imagine is the edomae style which traditionally kyoto had never served until these days while they have their own style oshizushi which used vinegared fish instead of fresh raw fish, So it is a very encouraging and nice thing that you introduced those places . Not only about sushi , nowadays everyone goes to the same ramen shop in tokyo ,as if commanded by the captain guide book.

I think most foreigners don't really know very much about sushi, or even know that there are different types. Conveyor belt sushi is novelty and fun - and also less intimidating for people who don't speak Japanese. There are some restaurants in all the guide books and videos that everyone goes to, because they don't know that there are lots of other great places too. I think this is a part of the problem of over-tourism and crowds in Japan - foreigners simply don't know about places beyond the famous attractions. So that's why I want to introduce people to more places, and show how good they are! :-)

Thanks! I wouldn't go to Japan in summer because I don't think we'd be able to cope with the humidity, especially walking around all day, so I'd always choose spring or autumn (or winter!).

I had a large variety of fish delivered by Tesco yesterday and now I cannot wait until dinner :) :) I wonder if there is an easy (and cheap) way to freeze fish down to the -40 they need to be safe for raw ?
@cakeswithfaces
@cakeswithfaces 5 жыл бұрын
I don't know.. supermarket fish isn't usually safe to eat raw, but check fishmongers if you have one nearby. There's a fish stall at my local market that usually has salmon and sometimes tuna for sushi!

@@cakeswithfaces Don't worry ! I'm not going to do it lol. Though it reminds me of when I house shared with two italian girls. They liked to prepare this dish made from raw minced beef. beef is almost always safe to eat raw, however they would buy packets of the Ultra-Own-brand-value beef and it always seemed crazy to me :) (they never got ill from it though so it can't have been too dangerous) Raw milk is almost considered a biological weapon but I always drank it as a child without any particular precautions - specifically goats milk from my two goats.
@cakeswithfaces
@cakeswithfaces 5 жыл бұрын
@@helenFX I'm sure we're all a lot more cautious than we need to be about that sort of thing! (The raw beef would freak me out too though!!) Like the use-by dates for eggs - I do the glass of water test and they're fine for ages after the use by date.

It was a sweet apple (not sour at all). I ate it after it had been in my backpack for several hours in the cold and it was actually a little frozen - probably should have left it to thaw out, I wasn't expecting that!!

you might like the combined market in Aomori City,... um, there is also a yummy whale meat store across the street ... the tuna chase the squid through the Tsugaru Strait between Aomori and Hokkaido and especially now crab is in season. Since you're in Hokkaido you can probably find bear meat (^_^)
