Hi there. I wrote the book (Saps, Blackjacks and Slungshots: A History of Forgotten Weapons) that came up in your recent Martial Thoughts podcast interview. Thrilled to have discovered you and your content because of that episode. Great stuff, I'll be forwarding your links to people I know who love this kind of weapon.

There are *really* small ones, most especially used in Bartitsu. I highly recommend checking out their use.

I have a few. They’re great. Especially the small tear shaped ones and they make great key chains.

You're absolutely correct sir.. the Maori/Polynesian weapon .. Patu has similarities with the blackjacks and saps in usage ..but vastly more effective..

Are they really that efective?. I have a blackjack and a sap but they look so light that is hard to believe their knock out power.
@Combatprofessor2 жыл бұрын
I guess it would depend on the quality. They don’t need to be super heavy but there are definitely a huge variety of qualities in the market. You can hear the weight of mine in the video. Even a light slap on the leg goes right to the bone. To the face or neck would be devastating. They were used for centuries as trusted self defence tools and banned in many places for the same reason. The best way to know is to train with it. It’s important you find a model and shape that suits you well. There is a pretty huge range of variations.

@@Combatprofessor thanks,i didnt want come blunt or anything,English is not my first langauge.In no way i was doubting your teachings :). Actually my blackjack and sap are from the Fosters brothers in USA so top quality.

@@carlosgarciamendez8157 no I completely understand. It’s important to question everything especially when your safety is concerned. Yes you definitely have a top quality one. I have a few more videos on saps I’ll try to post this week.

Do you mean like a Gua sha? The scraping tools? The shape is similar but I don’t think the weight would compare.

My blackjack is a ratchet wrench. Just as effective. Legal just about everwhere. iron clad defense agains an accusation of premeditated anything with a weapon specifically made for that purpose. Even against the most ferociously unscrupulous attorney. No sharp edge or point, so its probably carries less litigation risk than a screw driver or a box cutter. I use it to tighten the lugnuts on my car every morning Sir....lol😂😂😂

It doesn't look scary at all, but I've once carried 4 gold coins and realised that it would damage my pocket. You definitely don't want to get hit by a bag with a few coins in them. It quickly becomes heavier than you think.
