Welcome to my research and exploration about Keramat Batu 8 again after my first visit in 2017. This time I returned to this place to recollect my thoughts after the rightful descendant of Syed Ismail came forward to me and requested me to announce to everyone on some of the facts that was not rightfully mentioned earlier. Do follow me in this session as I unfold the mysteries of Keramat Batu 8. One of the many known places that has made Singapore (spiritually) unique.

Hi Sarafian, The concrete bridge over the Rail Corridor would not have brought you to the Kramat. The Bridge was constructed in the 1930s by the quarry owner Mr Chia Eng Say for his workers to access the quarries there as well as for those who lived at the Chinese Kampong along Chia Eng Say Road. The road that leads to the SG Quarry today was formerly the access known as Chia Eng Say Road. The Chinese kampong was located where today the Fuyong Interim Park is, as well as on the other side of the railway line from the 'Interim Park' all the way to the bridge itself. The Chinese kampong was known as the Chia Eng Say kampong. The Kramat kampong (Kampong Merpati) was about 500m further up the rail corridor.

Good day James Tann , Thank you so much for the information on the bridge. I wasn't really sure of the exact date of its construction so I depended on the laying of the BTimah RailTracks between 1903~1907 which made 1910 sounded logical. But you have the exact date of it being constructed in 1930 by quarry owner Mr Chia Eng Say. I think the map also showed a temple towards Fuyong Estate too. Thank you for your initial post on Keramat Batu8. I learn a lot there James.

@@juliaabdullah3474 Yes, Chia Eng Say was the businessman who obtained the rights to quarry that side of Bukit Timah hill for granite in the 1930s. The quarry was actually called the Chia Eng Say Quarries but was better known by his company the Singapore Quarry Co Pte Ltd by which this quarry later came to be called. You can read a short history of the Singapore Quarry and the connection to Chia Eng Say in my blog link here:- hjtann.blogspot.com/2011/07/who-is-chia-eng-say-coming-full-circle_09.html

Keep researching more stories about Batu 8. My mum used to stay there in the 1960s. I am intrigued to know more about this kampung. It used to be huge settlement before URA took over.

I think the stories are pouring in at FaceBook too. I every visited a distant relative as we entered Jalan Asas. That was in 1983, and I remember at that time the Budak Kampong there were doing Break Dance.
