Only Bill and Donna came close in recent years, imo. As an actress she had this amazing ability to sell anything to the viewer as real no matter how silly it looked or how clunky the script was, was always extremely watchable without being too lovey, hammy or precious, and made you feel it could be you. Elizabeth Sladen was a significant part of Doctor Who no matter which generation you watch, love or remember her most for and especially in her own CBBC show The Sarah Jane Adventures, it was so sad that she passed away but she left so many memories and her mark upon the world and hearts of fans both young and old, even a few actors from Doctor Who from her time i.e. Tom Baker, Katy Manning (Jo Grant, she even made an appearance in SJA series 4) and the modern-day era David Tennant, and she is still remembered and loved to this day. I still can’t believe that a year from now in April 2021, it will mark 10 years since she passed away, and yet, all of us today will remember her, watch her again in Doctor Who and The Sarah Jane Adventures for all time to come.

"A tear... Sarah Jane? No, don't cry... While there's life there's..." I always thought the Third Doctor would finish that with "hope", but what ultimately truly matters is that we always remember the best about those people, every day. The great moments they gave us, the times they taught us that we can strive to be better, that ends don't justify means, that the universe has to go onwards, that "pain and loss, they define us as much as happiness or love". To Elizabeth Sladen, a beautiful, marvelous female role model and talented actress that will forever live in the hearts of every whovian, whether you met her with the 3rd, 4th, or any of the "Five Doctors", or even the 10th or 11th, or at any other point of your lives. Pyramid of Mars is a classic. I am old enough to have started my Whovian adventure with Pertwee. To me Sarah Jane is THE companion. The Philip Hinchcliffe years were imo Who at its best. A truly wrenching moment is at the end of The Hand of Fear when they say their goodbyes. Tom Baker and Lis Sladen wrote that farewell scene. It is so poignant. After she leaves the TARDIS, there's a shot of Tom, and he is not acting. He was genuinely very sad to see Lis leave.

Sarah Jane will always be my favourite companion. It’s amazing that Elisabeth Sladen was the hero of more than one generation. So much impact. Loved her since seeing her in School Reunion and growing up with The Sarah Jane Adventures was such an awesome experience. Still my favourite Doctor Who spin off and her adventures in Classic Who were also a treat to visit. She became one of my childhood heroes and was one of the reasons why I was a big Who fan. I miss the days where I’d look forward to watching a series of The Sarah Jane Adventures every year. I’m still gutted that she’s no longer here. Even after nearly 9 years, her absence is still felt. She brought a lot of energy and had such a huge presence to Who. It still isn’t the same without her. I’m so grateful I got to grow up watching Sarah Jane. Her comeback was like a fairytale. Happy birthday Elisabeth Sladen. You led this world too soon. You still had so much more to give as Sarah Jane but you will always be remembered by several generations of people and hopefully many more to come in the future. I hope they put SJA on streaming services so that new audience and younger generations of kids can discover her like we did with both Classic Who and SJA. I miss her so much. I loved her with all my heart. I also miss the SJA cast. Luke, Maria, Rani, Clyde and Sky. All of them were great and had awesome chemistry with Sarah Jane. The show was excellent. I still hope that someday they will turn the unmade stories into novels or even have some of these characters appear in Big Finish if they ever get permission. It’s great that 10, 11, The Brigadier and Jo Grant all got to appear in SJA. Wonderful show. So grateful and glad to have grown up with it. Thank you Elisabeth Sladen. Sarah Jane has always taught not to give up, that there is always a way out and you should appreciate what you have. My most favorite Series with Sarah Jane : "School Reunion", "Invasion of the Bane", "What Happened to Sarah Jane?", "Stolen Earth/Journey's End", "Genesis of the Daleks", "The Last Sontaran", "The Temptation of Sarah Jane", "Sarah Jane's Wedding", "Secrets of the Stars", "Nightmare Man", "Goodbye, Sarah Jane Smith" and the farewell episode "The Man Who Never Was". I remember how everyone was really looking forward to Season 5 of the Sarah Jane Adventures and here it is... The sad end of the story of an incredible character and the series itself, the end at the open finale. At that time, I had two of my favorite actors - David Tennant and Elizabeth Sladen. Watching the episodes where they are together was the height of pleasure for me. Thanks to Elizabeth Sladen for discovering the world of an amazing universe, where there is also a lot of unusual things. Thanks for Sarah Jane. In our memory forever.

I was young enough to have a crush on her when she first appeared and I was old enough to cry for two days when I learned Sarah.....MY Sarah Jane....had been taken from us far, far, far too soon. Never have I been more heartbroken to learn of the loss of someone I never met and knew so little about, but meant absolutely everything to me. She was without a doubt the companion everyone could relate to; scared and brave, confident and fragile, wise but optimistic. To her credit she never spoke of the cancer that took her life and worked as long as she could on her show. And now it's nine years. And I still deeply miss her. Until we meet again, Sarah Jane.

I started watching Doctor Who on PBS in 1983. Sarah Jane and the Fourth Doctor were my faves. I can tell you I jumped 3 feet in the air and squealed like a toddler at a Wiggles concert when she appeared in "School Reunion". 😊 (I was 37 at the time. 😂)

I miss her. We've grown up and grown older together, and now she's gone... too soon, much too young. She should've lived until she was 90. But she lives in the hearts of so many, as she deserves. Doctor Who is such a bittersweet form of time travel. We travel through decades and changing times together, each watching the show with our own generation, and we look back at Doctor Who eras from earlier in our lives and see not just fiction, fantastic adventures through history and outer space, but visits to our own pasts, to memories, to heroes and people we used to know and love. Doctor Who keeps them alive after they are gone, making them as immortal as the Doctor, in some parallel universe where the characters they played (personas, masks, echoes of the real actor's personality) are real. If nothing else, I'm glad that Lis Sladen was reintroduced to new generations and got a chance to finish her life loved and appreciated by millions, flashing across our imaginations once more as Sarah Jane. We won't forget you, Lis.

Liz Sladen was the absolute best! I wept for a week after hearing of her passing. The good ones always go far too soon. In high school I was on a class trip to London in 1990. I had the amazing opportunity to have seen her in a market. I timidly approached, apologized profusely, introduced myself and told her of my respect & admiration of her character portrayal. She was so kind and patient as I self-consciously stumbled on myself. She took the time to chat with me and she was such a sweet, serene and kind person. I was both awed and delighted by her in those 5 or 10 minutes we spoke. She was one of those rare people who make you a better person just by associating with. Gone far too soon and sorely missed.

Gone but you will never be forgotten. Sarah Jane will be the one companion that will never be touched again but she doesn't need to be either. This woman brought Classic Who and New Who together, she had her own spin off show that was so successful she probably could've kept going with it if she chose to and could. There is so much you could say and then never the right words to say it all. RIP Liz, we won't ever forget you.

Hi RJ. I'm in the USA. I always wanted to see SJA and ended up watching it on Amazon Prime. It was free back then, now I think you have to pay for it.. I saw K-9 and Company spinoff pilot episode with Elizabeth Sladen from the early '80's. it's available here on KZbin. The new "K-9 and Company", aired on the SYFY channel. No Doctor Who characters, other than K-9 are in it though. I heard of something called, "SJA The Alien Files", but I've never seen it and don't know what it was about. I'm hoping someone will post it on KZbin.
