"But he can love her." Favorite line.

I've never liked poetry, but spoken word made me love them. It was Sarah's performances that introduced me to this art form. And since then, I was hooked. I am hoping that one day, I would be able to watch her and all the other great spoken word poets perform live. And maybe, one day, be able to write my own poem and perform. But for now, I am contented to be a spectator to all these great poets.

Everytime I watch her perform and listen to her musical voice block out all painful noise my lungs detest. Not because the air is polluted but because every thought is to listen, to grasp her words and bury them deep with in my mind and somehow my brain forgot to tell me to breathe.

Wow, the part where the translator said, "He will never marry her" and you said, "No, but he can love her." too amazing

Wow. I had seen some of these spoken word pieces before but never truly felt the urge to perform until recently. I am a poet in the conventional sense and write on paper but theatre has always intrigued me and pulled me into its grasp. Combing the two is an idea I have fallen in love with. I just wish there were opportunities around me to engage in this magical activity.

Why don't you start the activity instead? Be the first to host your own poetry event. Can't hurt to try.

Incredible...simply incredible. I only wish there was a form of expression that fit myself quite as well as spoken word poetry suits Sarah. If at sometime you read this Sarah Kay, keep up the wonderful, inspirational and insightful work. Truly, you are doing exactly what you were put here to do. That is not to necessarily write and speak poetry, but rather to touch us all on a very profound and spiritual level. I feel enriched having heard your talent, and for this I thank you!!!

Cool that you went to India this summer Sarah! I find it interesting how she describes the pollution and the orange-ness of the sky. I used to find the orange sky different and beautiful when I was in India - and i thought it was something about being on that part of the hemisphere. Recently I found out its just because of the pollution.

Where do you live? I might be able to advise some venues you could reach that offer spoken word. Thanks for viewing.

This type of poetry is called "Spoken Word" poetry, so in my opinion, it is better watched than read. Besides the poets posted on this speakeasynyc site, i should refer you the the urbananyc site which also has great poets performing. Please also check out the most famous of the spoken word venues; the Def Poetry series. Google that, and you can see fantastic performances by young & old, male & female, black & white. Enjoy the ride & thanks for viewing.

Very beautifully written, I sometimes wish that I wasn't so ignorant of poetry, since her voice and inspirations make me want to speak in the exact same manner with passion.

Yes, this is Spoken Word poetry, but a good way to start anyway would be reading though and understanding all the elements presented in The Ode Less Travelled by Steven Fry. It's a form book, but does great introductory exercises for rhyme, meter, and other basic poetic elements to help you. If you want to go further into Spoken Word poetry after, I recommend finding communities that will help critique, learn from and edit your poetry online. There're tons if you know where to look. Good luck.

Shes brilliant..i know a lot of it is just original talent..but how does one get to that sort of talent at such a young age? Ive been totally ignorant to poeetry, but could sum1 give me a names of some books I could read on this sort of poetry or sumthing? because im guessing you get better at poetry by immersing yourself in it, and shes kinda inspired me, if not to start writing, then at least to appreciate more poetry out there. Any help would be great..thanks ^^
