My runner up best moment with my mother was when I took her to a Sarah McLachlan concert in 2004. I had just left the military and Sarah was a commonality shared. We had floor seats - which didn’t work well for my mom as she was 4’5” - and when “Building A Mystery” was played, she heard it for the first time; without a radio edit. She looked up at me a gasp not knowing such an angel could sing vile and I stared back at her telling her “you’re okay.”

Sarah, my best friend and I were fortunate enough to meet you a few years back when you played with the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra. (I may have made a fool of myself, but we won't talk about that. Lol) Back stage, we met a mother and her young daughter who was named Adia. My friend and I watched as Mom and Adia's faces simply lit up when you went to meet them. Then, you gave Adia and her mom a shout out during the show. Something she will remember for the rest of her life. Something my best friend and I will remember for the rest of ours. I lost my mother 2 months ago due to severe brain cancer. It was too quick and aggressive, but I'm using this day to celebrate the amazing mother I had, the good memories, and all the absurd amount of love that she gave us. If you are seeing this, and it is going through a similar situation, remember that everything is impermanent, and all that love that you received from her, is a boomerang that is / will go back to your mother wherever she is right now.
