I think she's one of the ballsiest comedians out there. She does stuff that you can only get away with in animated form - South Park and Family Guy etc..

Sarah Silverman brilliantly uses all her beauty to awkwardly & effortlessly beguile, contriving a persona you want to believe deep down. Because she thought of everything she's doing here, you see. Nothing she does is without art. And she's not trying to be anything but what she wants, right out there on the edge. Amazing. I can't stop grinning.

Oh you're so right. The show is obviously shot in the Republic of Norther Ireland and not in England itself. And I always love the air of superiority in those who live in countries where there is no private property and all live subject to the crown's will. It must be great living in a theocracy masquerading as a constitutional monarchy, And it sure was nice of that queen of yours to give you a constitution and everything.

I agree with you about Jasper carrot, but seriously, Omid is hilarious. He has all the British/ethnic/Muslim observational comedy down to an tee. And he has acted in many films all over the world so has a wealth of experience to draw from.

@Paul07791 I'm a Brit too ;-) I was really obsessed with Bill Hicks for a while when I was a teenager, and I have 3 of his albums on CD (recorded in US) and a Channel 4 concert video recorded in the UK, and the interaction between Hicks and the audience is (I think) subtly and noticeably different - even when he's fighting a US audience, BH seems far more comfortable and tuned in than with a positive UK audience.

You know that Tangify blocked me and I was trying to show her, on her video, that I too would have been a feminist in the UK, back in the 50's and 60's. But it's gotten to the point where it's not about equality - it is about getting men to bow down to women. You cannot criticise a woman. You cannot hit a woman in self-defence. You face pressures with regards to getting a job. More pressure to support her. And have you ever chatted to women online? They care more about looks than they let on.
@memonk1111 жыл бұрын
"How far your country has fallen from its glory days of opportunity and freedom in the 50s through to the 70s" Again, it shows the validness of your points. Regretable there was segregation in the 50/60's. and the country still has remnants of it, But people as a whole are much free'er now than ever before. You might learn about that in the Canadian colony if you weren't all lily white. Oh , how do those pesky Quebecois feel about being part of the empire?

I'm british and I love Sarah Silverman, I dont think its a case of where your from, I personally dont rate jonathan ross that highly, but I think there characters clashed. Most American interviewers just sit there looking nervous, it takes alot more to shock a brit I think.

Sarah is too much, she is a riot. IF you like her comedy check this guy out! Watch Jerry Rio as he does conducts his outrageous "Man On the Street" interviews like nobody else. Probing questions, irreverent, quick witted responses and hilarious observations will keep you entertained. Observe Jerry as he interacts with a never ending parade of sarcastic New Yorkers conducting conversations that will have you rolling on the floor laughing.

I'll give you Roseanne Barr (a very funny woman indeed). The rest of them either are not stand up comedians or are simply not that funny. Tina Fey, maybe passes muster....but Rhea Pearlman... Really? A one note joke from a show that was huge 25 years ago, and this is who you bring to the discussion on great comedians. You have rather hilariously actually PROVED my point for me.
@altoid2k415 жыл бұрын
That's her style of comedy, I'm glad you guys figured out you don't like her but plenty of people still do. I think it's hard when American humor is on a foreign show or vice versa, the humor is different and there is going to be people who don't under stand it, like almost everyone here who said bad things are not from America.

I met Sara Silverman in Manhattan(New York) 1 year ago. She was soo nice. Met her at a coffee shop, drinking with her friend. I noticed her right off da bat, and I said "Are u Sara" she said "I wish, that bitch is hot" hahahaha!!! and we chatted for about 5 minutes, she complimented on my looks, and my hands. For some reason she loves Big hands!! ;)~~~...I wish I can meet her again!!!

I know ya GASHBIT, when people think of the english the first thing that springs to mind is how funny you all are. Everybody knows that you english are just hilarious. America has MOST of the funniest and well respected comedians in the world. Out of my top 10 comedians 7 are american. Their humour is universal, everyone gets it. But at least you're on par with the yanks when it comes to your politicians and leaders.
@KaitainCPS11 жыл бұрын
Also, despite Americans being taught in school that they live in the most free country in the world, the data suggest otherwise. For example, The Economist's compiled data suggest that the US is ranked #18 in the world for civil liberties and political freedoms, behind a whole slew of constitutional monarchies (Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Canada, Australia, the UK, The Netherlands, New Zealand etc). The US talks a good game, but in recent years your civil liberties have been eroded.

England. Where you don't need to be able to pronounce the letter "R" to host a chat show.
@brendel9915 жыл бұрын
I'm Jewish, the question isn't offensive but it is uncomfortable if you don't have a prepared answer, the first one that would come to mind is that personally as a Jew I find Jews more interesting than anybody else, lol. But then you'd have to scratch that and find a second answer (I think), I guess she didn't have one.
@HeadlightMorningGlow15 жыл бұрын
Yeah, but he wasn't rating her on her basis of humour being Jewish, he was saying "too bad" to her BEING Jewish.
@Alino1715 жыл бұрын
Indeed friend. And funny nearly asmuch so, sometimes. I speak from Italy, all the cultural limits implied, mut I really enjoyed this video featuring english males clearly enjoying -and teasing- the yankee star

She's called Silverman because Jews used to collect silver and gold in ancient time that's why you get Goldman and Silverman and Jews own jewellery stores till this day.

He's an absolute hero man ! You should try watching an episode of Extra's - he enlists various celebrities to play satirical characters of themselves; it might make it easier for you to separate it as fictional. Not having a go and saying you're dumb by saying "make it easier" btw, I know cringe-humour's an acquired taste, just a suggestion!

@david552 Don't underestimate how much we Brits know about America. We are bombarded with American culture alllllllllll the time. Not a bad thing; America produces the best TV dramas in the world. Anyway, Bill Hicks is totally revered by myself, my friends etc... he's the best.

Think this is the first time I've seen Ross out of his league...her jokes just went over his head. Silverman on 8 out of 10 cats a few nights back was 100 times funnier. She's gotta be the funniest woman alive today, the first I'd actually pay to go see.

A lot of her cultural references are not picked up on so easily by Brits.

@moonlily1 I think that person was referring to a tongue in cheek piece done by Christopher Hitchens called 'Why Women Still Aren't Funny". Sarah Silverman was in it. Obviously Hitchens was not actually suggesting the title at face value. Still, the person you are replying to did not consider very well the out of context tone.

I accept the point. And the comedy shows you've mentioned are all fairly universal, yes. The problem specifically with Silverman is the fact that she bases a lot of her act on the fact that she's Jewish, which simply doesn't have that much mileage. We already know the steriotypes.. we aren't going to find steriotype-based humour amusing. It's just not original.

I don't want to get into the crazy misogynistic fight over the ability of women to be funny, but I just want to point out that The Ricky Gervais PISSES HIMSELF LAUGHING at Sarah Silverman's gags.
@snaz7611 жыл бұрын
I´m pretty sure she understood every word
@maddy599214 жыл бұрын
@glitzy101 Yeah I totally agree. She's "joking" around i.e. you're not meant to take what she's saying seriously. Obviously there are comedians who take it too far, and the joke isn't funny only rude/offensive. But she never goes that far, she toys with the line, but never crosses it.
@brendel9915 жыл бұрын
That's interesting, because everybody else has it the other way around, that SS was the one out of her depth...
