As an early S-4 owner, this is an excellent introduction to the device!

I’d be more wary. We’re talking about early adopters here as if this has been some kind of kickstarter, but these are customers being misled into buying an unfinished project for a premium price. And this would have all been forgiven if in 6 months time the product would have been finished, but it is not, for a while. I’d put more faith in the voices of the people who put down almost a grand, cause these synthfluencers would be a lot more critical if they had done the same.

I understand your point. I bought one of these too, but I was already aware of the missing functionality, I knew what I might be getting into. For a professional musician I understand you probably can't wait for the feature to arrive, you need it for production right away. Me, as a hobbyist just acquiring my first hardware, I don't mind waiting some time. It's just for fun, and I have confidence they'll deliver. So far, I really like the device design/UI/functionality wise. Awaiting more of this :-)

Pre-ordered this as soon as it was available. Yes, its a work in progress but Torso have been good about updates and I don't mind being an early adopter. Its a fun device. The features overlap with several other instruments / FX processors and pedals and it will only get better.

What a fantastic video. SBR killing it as usual. I’ve been using the S-4 pretty heavily for a couple months now as a live looper and love FX processor. It really does a lot, it’s incredibly deep, as you can see from the breadth of things SBR does with it here. Bugs haven’t been an issue for me. There are still some “coming soon” features, but the thing is already extremely powerful, so I don’t miss them. It’s not perfect, but it’s the sampler/looper I’ve been looking for for ages.

Definitely some interesting sounds. Just wish it could have more layers of modulation like with modular gear. Also much, if not all, of what it can do can be done with cheaper plugins or iPad apps. However having it all packed into one physical unit is pretty appealing. Just for me the price is a bit to high a hurtle for functionality I already have in many other places. You did a great demo of it and I’m glad you’re able to make it a fun part of what you do! I particularly liked the glitchy granular drum sequence you did with it paired with the electron unit!

the individuality of the s4 is why it is a powerful tool - it does things (like four free running un-synced tape loops) that other software / hardware either ignores or can't manage. thanks for amplifying its nature and not portraying it as something which is lacking, but rather something which can be appreciated for exactly what it is, and not more. excellent examples of actually using a tool rather than applying it impotently to something it is not suited for.

It’s great. Flexible, capable and deep. It’s not cheap but covers a good bit of ground as a real time effects unit as well as having the sample playback and poly synth features. And you can use them all at the same time. Yes it is frustrating and a bit crap that it isn’t finished.. BUT still a very satisfying, playable and great sounding unit. Mine hasn’t been too glitchy and the updates are coming, albeit not as quickly as I’d like.

I was very underwhelmed by the Torso S4. The build quality alone for the money was poor (I had an indelible mark on the screen when I unpacked it) Software glitches aside, it just didn't resonate with me so I returned it. Shame as I was excited about it but my ipad apps such as Tarigrain, Samplr and Spacecraft can do pretty much all this can. Not to mention the Cycles vst. Having said all you seem to make anything sing Sarah. Nice demo 🙂

@@markoahokangasfor that you should use a hub like AUM, with an instance of Samplr as an AUv3 plugin. Configure routing and busses within AUM and save it as a template project. Add a decent interface or controller and some other FX plugins. Would that be cheaper? Not if you don’t own an iPad. Would it offer the same experience? Maybe, if you put some time into tweaking and setting things up. Then again, it’s not a dedicated device.

I gotta admit - for each piece of hardware I've been looking up here on youtube, just the fact that you're making a video about it somehow validates it in my book. Why ? Because you simply extract the real essence out of them.

Sold mine, because it has a steep learning curve, but since it is not ready there‘s nothing to learn in some parts. Made some tests with syncing an IPad via a class compliant Steinberg Interface to my keystep pro and it worked fine. Got all my granular & texture apps at hand for a fraction of the price of the S4. Don‘t buy that thing, it is simply not ready, or at least wait two years.

If you buy it be prepared to be an alpha tester of a very unfinished device. It has a lot of potential and I love a lot of ideas of the instrument but I sold mine a couple of days ago because it got so frustrating dealing with all the bugs, updates and all that… for me the worst is how unstable it syncs to other gear. It kept me from making music. Build quality is also mediocre. If you just make really experimental stuff and have a lot of time for all the maintenance it’s maybe ok.

It's fiiiiiine, had it for months, use it almost daily, will enjoy the features they add as the existing ones are awesome. I don't see any difference. Less interfacing, and hands-on usually results in better music. No optionittus before you even start composing. You have to play music before you use this anyway. Sample editing options are way too overrated, people forget music and get lost in glitches as if it adds something to the game. I want to either dance or thouroughly enjoy a show. Not some dude freaking out on software just because he can. It was always boring. This lady can play music.
