The chants you hear are Gregorian chants in Latin and the girl speaking is French. Enigma is a German group created by Michael Cretu, the husband of German singer Sandra.

I never understood the lyrics when it came out, it just has a moody sexy vibe and a beautiful ambient sound and feeling. I would just listen for the sake of listening because it's awesome. That being said, I just looked at the English translation and was very surprised! I always thought it was a song about SADNESS but the word was SADENESS! It's a discussion or revery about how or why the Marquis de Sade does what he does. Check out the translation. I guess it would pay to add French and Latin to my list of languages to learn.

May I please offer a suggestion for a future video? I know you would absolutely love this song... "Woman in Chains" by Tears For Fears. They wrote this song to feature Oleta Adam's (a woman they found singing in the lounge at a Howard Johnsons hotel). A song about spousal abuse and survival with such soul and passion, it's not to be missed. Please look for it. 😊

How often do you hear a song sung in Latin and in French? The first time I heard this song, I picked up on the languages and was blown away by it...that and the music itself. . The male chorus singers (they are singing in Latin here) in this song is a band called 'Gregorian" (Masters of Chant). They have a big catalog of songs. . Sadeness...a reference to the Marquis de Sade. In this song, he is being questioned on his religion and humanity. In French. . Enigma albums really should be listened to from start to finish without interruption.

The chant is Gregorian. It is how the Psalms were intended to be read... sung. In the original Latin.

ENIGMA - " Gravity Of Love (official) " VIDEO 1990's CLASSIC absolutely Hypnotizing Vocals by SANDRA C. a Ethereal/Ambient/World Beat/Electronic w/ Amazing Intro by Choir leading up to the Beautiful vocals of SANDRA C. and Creative Music Arrangements of Michael Cretu. FANTASTIC SONGS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED there's many Equally Ethereal Ambient Grooves in other songs by ENIGMA , they need more recognition I believe.

the title is actually Sadeness, as in the Marquis de Sade who was known for committing sex crimes and for having a questionable sexual appetite for inflicting pain. The terms sadist and Sadomasochism are derived from his name. This song questions his sexual preferences.

The 80s and early 90s were very creative in musical experimentation and fusion of genres. Today all music has become homogenized because it is created by the same algorithms. A Spanish university had passed 500,000 titles under an algorithm of analysis of harmonies, construction and musical richness, etc. and the results were clear, music has been getting poorer for 30 years, just like the lyrics, but we can all hear it.

They took the chant from a Catholic choir without permission and lost the lawsuit. At start it says, "procedamus in pace, in nomine Cristi, amen," meaning, "we proceed in peace in the name of Christ, amen."

The title itself directly links the song to the Marquis de Sade. Although it incorporates Gregorian chants, these are used as a musical element and don't convey Christian theological messages. The song explores themes of sexuality and sensuality, which can be considered at odds with certain Christian interpretations of appropriate subject matter. Some argue that the song inadvertently romanticizes or condones the extreme and potentially harmful ideas explored in de Sade's writings. The Marquis de Sade (1740-1814) was a French nobleman and writer known for his controversial works that explored extreme sexuality, including violence, sadism, and blasphemy, and ofcourse his scandalous lifestyle. His writings, such as "Justine, or the Misfortunes of Virtue" and "120 Days of Sodom," depict graphic scenes of sexual violence and debauchery. While highly controversial and often condemned, Sade's work has had a significant impact on literature, philosophy, and art. The term "sadism" itself is derived from his name. Sade's work is considered highly disturbing and is not suitable for all audiences.

Maybe it has that special sensual kind easy relaxing beat, makes a nice effect with girl rollin around the pole. By the way here the name is sadenes, it is formed from french writer marquis de sade, which appears on a lyrics. Sade, dit moi...So sadness, I do not know where that's been taken.
