No, this video is not clickbait. I really did move out of NYC for real. After 15 years of living in this amazing city, the time has come for me to move on and in this video, I share the 10 reasons why.

This was one of the hardest decisions I've ever made. I love NYC so much and it is SO DIFFICULT to leave. However, I see no other option at this time...I look forward to sharing a new part of my life with you in our new house outside of the city. If you're interested, here is our house tour (it needs a lot of work and I can't wait to share that journey with you) kzbin.info/www/bejne/iafOdWqdZ9Fjh5osi=tg834Q65DeUVFRQc

I did the same thing a month ago. After spending my 20s in NYC, I finally admitted to myself that my priorities in my 30s have already changed, and NYC wasn’t really the place for me to accomplish my new goals. My definition of happiness has changed, and pleasure became synonymous to peace.

I'm ready to leave. Somehow salaries have gone down as rents went up. Literally got contacted by a recruiter for a job paying 45K/yearly. There are NYC apartments that cost that much to rent for a year. At this point, I see no way forward for the transplanted creatives to work a grind job to sustain themselves. No affordable way for behind the scenes folks to sustain themselves as they start out in their career doing free or low paying gigs to build a resume. Wall Street is only hiring on contract and paying wages that were low in 2004. NYC is no longer a place to begin a arts/creative career or even sustain a mid-level one where you don't fully support yourself et from pay. It's much smarter to build a social media presence in a less expensive place and build a brand and come here only if work brings you. NYC is no longer the cutting edge of art and culture.

@@Kimberly_Sparklesya nyc isn't what it use to be for artist. I remember feeling rich making $100 at a music gig in 2004 after I graduated HS. Now that tiktok has romanticized people to move here venues can pay $75 for the night and still get someone.

Your channel is awesome!! My daughter and her hubby made the heart breaking and life changing move from Brooklyn to Bucks County PA last summer with their new baby. Traded high costs for hometown living. They will never regret NYC/Brooklyn life, but life with a family takes priority over all the crazy expenses and struggles of city living. And taxes. And no laundry. No parking. And stairs. The stairs! Good luck! Can’t wait to see what’s next for you guys!

Hello from Brooklyn. NYC is great when young and single, but as we get older, and priorities change, and families grow, the costs just don’t make much sense anymore. I’m still here with spouse and soon to be high schooler. Would love to follow the example of your daughter, but spouse just can’t seem to bring himself to find a job outside of NYC.

I had a similar experience leaving London when I moved back to Scotland. The way I see it now, all the extra money I save allows me to visit regularly and stay in nice hotels when I go out with London based friends for a meal or drinks. As you get older, the "need" for city life dissipates too and you appreciate what a more family friendly location offers. It's great seeing the impact it has on the kids. In saying that, I'm not quite ready for a pipe and slipper life yet (!) but more infrequent visits to the 'big city' do allow you to appreciate what it has to offer more. Thank you for your videos - have enjoyed watching them over the years. All the best to you and your lovely family.

I'm a native New Yorker and I have to say she did it right. She came here young, hustled hard and gained valuable experience in corporate before transferring into entrepreneurship. She created multiple businesses and is now relocating for family and a house. I was born and raised here. My parents bought a house in the lates 60s, retired in the 90s and moved south. I had an amazing middle class life that is unattainable on todays' average salary. I've lived in a few states but decided to come back and make NYC home and bought a house in Queens with 5 bedrooms, a garage and back yard. I'm in a unique situation. I'm not married and have no kids. My parents paid for my entire college education so no student loans and they even gave me a down payment for my house or which the mortgage is so low it is impossible to ever get what I have here ever again. I have rental income and also started a few businesses so I am totally self sufficient.. NYC is a place for people to come in their 20s, work hard, have fun gain experience and then bounce. Unless you're super rich, inherit property you will just be struggling and barely getting by unless you think outside the box.

I live in Northern Virginia outside of DC. Same thing here. Right out of school as a 20 something, go live in the city, work hard, spend almost all your money on rent, party, make news friends, get experience. Then grow up and move to the burbs for grass of your own, safety, have kids, and the good life. Every generation should go through it

@@uncleruckus7409 I grew up in Baltimore and my first job out of school was actually in New York. I lived in Flushing and my sales territory was Queens. It was a great experience. Good times!

@@joedo8500 Great to hear success stories. Queens is the most diverse county in the US and gives you a glimpse of the entire world. People are often fixated on Manhattan and give Queens a bad rap. Plus, people are not aware of other areas, like your brother in Jersey. There are several smaller cities and regions nearby most are totally unaware that make up Metro NY.

1) It's expensive, and it's not kid-friendly (though I'd argue it's a haven for tween ages on up). No argument. 2) I think you'll find that over time you will come to the city less often, as your life shifts to your new home base. City friendships-- the more casual ones anyway-- will gradually wither. 3) Without divulging where your new home is, I'm hoping that if it's upstate NY that you will consider featuring attractions in your new region. The Hudson Valley in particular has so much to explore. Good luck in your new home!

Agree with the tween comment, but I'd say after the toddler years nyc is great. We moved to the city when our child was 6 and she made a great group of friends in our neighborhood (UWS). A toddler + stroller in NYC is super tough, but there's so much to do with kids in the city once they hit tween years.

We also moved out of NYC for pretty much the same reasons about 10 years ago! We now live up in New Hampshire in a 4 bedroom house, and just like you discovered, it also costs way less than our apartment in NYC. Our two kids have their own room and the quality of life is so much better for them. We also found that grocery shopping is way cheaper up here than in NY! However, we do have to come to NYC at least twice a year because we still have family there but we appreciate your videos so much because it keeps us up to date on what's happening in NYC. 😂Enjoy! Make sure you understand the difference between express and local trains. With OMNY you swipe a phone or debit card now. Some of the larger stations make transfers confusing, especially when busy with commuters rushing everywhere. You might be looking for a single hallway or stairway, and it may be way off almost out of sight. 42nd St station is like this. Make sure a letter A rating is in the window of places you eat. It is easier to get to Manhattan from La Guardia than JFK. I have done both, with a combo of taxis, buses, subway, and the JFK Airtrain (which is a separate fee). Of course visit Times Square, but the city is better away from it, including with outer boroughs. If you don't fight the energetic flow of Manhattan you will have a good time. Not every neighborhood is noisy. If your hotel has a rooftop bar you might not get much sleep. I just stayed at a CitizenM in December and it was the quietest hotel I've ever stayed at anywhere. Don't make eye contact with scammers so they leave you alone. New Yorker's are reserved but polite. They will often offer help if they see you confused (people will notice something's off with you if you aren't walking with intention). Staten Island ferry is free if you wanna see the Statue of Liberty. Do check out Morgan Library. Weather will be cold. Libraries, museums, going into stores are good ways to dodge bad weather. Rose Reading Room. Bemelmam's Bar. Creme brulee donuts at Doughnut Plant. L'Industrie Pizza. Tom Otterness Real World Sculptures. Tomkins Square or Brooklyn Bagel & Coffee. Circle Line at night. The home at e10th & stuyvessant in the East Village. % Arabica Coffee. Midtown will be the busiest. Freeman Alley. Patchin Place. Washington Mews. Balthazar for breakfast/brunch. Or Clinton Street Baking Company (make a reservation). The Strand Bookstore. Top of the Rock is better views than Empire State Building. If you come back in warmer months: Brooklyn Botanical Gardens, Bronx Little Italy, Central Park Conservatory, Brooklyn Heights, Domino Park/Smorgasburg, Bethesda Terrace, Shake Shack in Madison Square Park. There are plenty of areas with beautiful old brownstones and townhouses to explore. Little Island. Ample Hills Creamery in Chelsea (also the Chelsea Highline). The Museum of the Moving Image in Astoria Queens. There's so much to see and do!

Its kind of a moot point, because kids when they get a little older (like 12+ years old), they need access to good public transit so that way they can be more independent, because requiring a car is very restrictive for the teenage age group.

I do still visit NYC from time to time, cause there's just nowhere else better than NY to visit. Great decision u made, especially for ur daughter.

Sarah, I just want to acknowledge how significant this transition is for you and your family. Everything will be ok. I love your videos, and I hope you will continue to share your life experiences with us. For future videos here are some ideas: 1. What's worth the hour drive back to NYC? 2. Your home decor and renovation projects 3. Some cooking videos with you and Louie 4. Shenanigans with Molly and Bella 5. Travel flogs 6. Fashions in your new environment. Take care!

I fell in love with New York when I went for the first time for my 50th birthday. My boyfriend and I were like, “Should we move here?” We don’t have kids, but the thought of leaving our jobs is difficult. Plus I’m from California so unsure if I can handle the Winter season. But NY definitely was an amazing trip! I look forward to going back. Good luck on your journey with your family! I love your channel

Congratulations on having your first home! I watched many of your videos before my wife and I visited NYC this past fall. Thank you for all the great information which was useful in seeing as much as we could in about six days. it was my second time and my wife's first time. Since visiting NYC in May 2001, I knew I had to return. New York is such an interesting place where I can feel the city's energy.

Congrats to the move. Being close to family is extremely important when you are raising a family. I'm a native NYer, we raised two boys here, but we have grandparents + uncle's and aunts everywhere. I work in luxury real estate in BK, and at my office, we only have two other people who are originally from here and I remember speaking to a colleague who is not from NYC originally telling her just how tricky having a kid without having relatives at arms distance could be if you're not loaded. She agreed. Also, as an aside, you could have purchased a multifamily in Ridgewood for $1.3M, have the other tenants pay for the mortgage and after a while, buy another one, just saying. That's how wealth is built, at least that's what I've seen

Congrats on your house. After 45 years I finally left NYC. My only regret is not doing it sooner. One day taking my six month old for a walk in his stroller on the Upper East side a ray of realization from the sky hit me in the head. It imbued me with the thought, "this is the worst place to raise my child."
