Sarah, the brake lines have a qwinkie tube configuration. Qwinkie tubes reduce excessive vibration in hydraulic systems by smoothing out the pulses of positive displacement pumps. This helps with wear and tear and helps prevent cracks in the steel lines. The traction control system is probably main reason for incorporating this in the design of the brake system. Qwinkie tubes are usually used in the hydraulic systems of aircraft. I appreciate your wit and humor!!

Had a '16 4runner up until this year. It was great off road, always felt in control and solidly planted, but it was an absolute dog on the highway, so slow and with so much gear hunting. It was terrible climbing up into the mountains, felt like a liability at times. Swapped it out for a Colorado Bison, no regrets.

Have a 2024 Off-Road Premium, just finished Idaho, Utah and Colorado trip. Handled the Altitude and Mountains. The KDSS was great on the highways. Going 80mph on highway for hours was easy.

The ONLY vehicle I would trade my Jeep in for. Toyota builds it right, it may be lacking in just about every category but you know it will work!

I’m weird, I prefer less tech options.

@@SarahnTuned bought a 2022 tacoma based on the 'less tech' no stop start, NA V6, old transmission, physical dials, and a touchscreen that doesn't stick out in the dash. it's slow, but don't care.

@@SarahnTuned For off-road I can totally see that. Sadly I haven't done any since moving from Tahoe to Florida more than a decade ago. Since I've always been a tech geek anyway, the more tech the better for my daily driver/road trip car. 😁

I just don't know about the need for the "off road cruise control modes." I prefer less tech options as well. I have been all over off roading with an SR5 with Atrac and have never needed the different modes or a locker. However I am not rock crawling or going places that the odds aren't in my favor that I am not making it out or I am likely going to break something (hopefully I haven't just jinxed myself my making that comment :) ).

A few modifications on a Off-Road Premium and it would be better than that PRO. Other than some severe off-Roading it would be much better overall off-roader and overlander than a Jeep, including not braking down.

Hey Sarah, I believe the bends in the brake lines are for flexibility.

Specifically flexibility between the separate body and frame which is why it's required on this vehicle.

One of the few vehicles that hasn't been updated in a dozen years where that is what makes it great. You should buy an older 4Runner and restore it, a third gen restore would make a very popular video series.

I love the 4Runner. Price is not bad at all for the TRD

Squiggly and coiled brake lines reduces vibration fractures and leaks. Little spring action. Engine and road vibrations. Near master cylinder reoccurring foot to pedal stomping flexing the mounting area .

"Can't name a more reliable off-road rig."I nominate that Ranger sitting behind it. It's been Sarah N Tuned. The Fig Newton joke was awesome! (You want bad, say it's this many Issacs next time.)
