Hello. So the datasheet pulled directly from Subarus official media site for the 2025 Legacy states the XT having port+direct injection (link below). However there is no other official documentation from Subaru stating the FA24F received the D4-S system from the FA24D. Unfortunately I don’t have the car anymore, so if you own a ‘25 Legacy XT, please feel free to update us all if in fact port injection is present. I never verified myself because I trusted they knew their own product, guess I’ll have to start compression checking engines and measuring bore and stroke myself too! lol s3.amazonaws.com/subarumedia.iconicweb.com/mediasite/attachments/25MY_Legacy_Specs_-FINAL.pdf

Curious as well...Didn't think Subaru would add port injection randomly for one of their models when the Ascent and wrx only has direct injection with the same motor.

The better sedans appear to be getting killed off not just because of the popularity of SUVs/Crossovers, but the comparatively lower profit margins. I’m still amazed (and saddened) that some iconic brands don’t offer a single sedan anymore. Despite your obvious love of Subarus, you gave this iconic model an unbiased review which is a credit to your standards. Great value, too. Thank you, Sarah. 👍👍👍

I'm still surprised at how unaware people still are of how the fuel economy regs in the US are rigged against traditional cars. Subaru doesn't actually want to sell the Legacy, not just because the Outback sells so much better but also because the Legacy isn't a light truck and costs them more on their EPA CAFE calculations. The exact same footprint, even body shell like in the Impreza/Crosstrek, counts differently depending on whether it counts as a car or as a light-truck. So what ends up happening is that the manufacturers help the car versions die off by reducing selection and availability. And then the industrial gaslights people with "See, Americans don't want small vehicles, you want a big truck. Don't you want a big truck? People will think you have a small willy if you don't."

I'm disappointed but not surprised that many manufacturers quit making sedans. Most people want crossovers because they're easier to enter and exit. And most people still shopping for a sedan will buy the safe Honda or Toyota, so nobody else has financial incentive to build them. I'd hoped Subaru could have made enough of their upmarket move, and found enough support for a car-like Outback, to justify doing another Legacy. Sadly, they're going full-tallboy with the next Outback.

I have always had a Legacy since 2013. I currently drive a 2016 Premium. They are great for what they are. I live in the frozen north and the AWD makes it easy to get around as long as the snow isn't a foot deep. The mileage is great for being awd with a relatively large four-cylinder. It is the proper size, easy to park with great visibility out of all the windows. I have an Ascent and the 2.4 turbo is powerful. I feel like that motor in the Legacy would make for a decent long-distance, high-speed back country cruiser. I feel like with a set of snow tires, I could cover any road, in any condition in North Dakota, where I live. I have been complaining about not having a Legacy wagon for years. I don't get why they stopped making them. An Outback is a Legacy wagon, with just a body lift and some plastic glued on. The suspension components are even the same. I would have bought the Legacy wagon, especially if they made the GT version again. End of an era.
@bradfordc801117 күн бұрын

I have fond memories of a 1st gen Legacy Wagon with a 5-speed manual that I bought from my parents (Dad had his knees replaced and needed an automatic). It had great handling on backroads and I eventually put wider tires on it for more fun. It was a bit of a sleeper and I never got a speeding ticket in it. At the time, driving a brown station wagon was like having an invisibility cloak for speeding. I still consider it to be the perfect size and layout for fun driving and practicality for a small family. It had the same internal carrying capacity as the contemporary small SUVs. I even bought it back from the insurance company and repaired bodywork after it had hit a deer and was "totaled". I never repainted the black replacement hood and after the accident it was called the "Boo-boo Ru". It lived another six or so years and I eventually gave it to a nephew.

However, unlike the WRX, the steering isn't very quick. But the ride is much softer and compliant than the WRX (The Sport trim having a modestly firmer ride than the other Legacy models). The driving experience can best be characterized as very smooth and comfortable. It's a bit of a sleeper, getting up to speed rather quickly and comfortably, but without a lot of fanfare.

The Subaru Turbos are fun to drive. The Legacy, the Outback XTs are pretty underrated.

I had the 2022 Legacy Limited XT and that was my favorite car by far. Smooth is the operative word as you said and it was deceptively quick and I did have some fun tossing it around some mountain roads before I traded it (downgraded...kind of...to a 2018 Forester XT Touring). That was also my 3rd Legacy and I loved each one of them. They never would win a fight in the looks department but I'm just as upset as you that Subaru let it go out with a whimper. The Legacy deserved a limited Spec B version with STI tuned suspension, performance tires, some added styling flair (I had the spoiler on mine and it looked so much better), and maybe even some more horsepower 300+. Sad to see this car go.

Honestly if I was in the market for a new car this would be very high on my shopping list! Thanks Sarah!

Had a gunmetal gray 1989 RS Legacy 25 years ago, it's one of my regret cars. I was broke and couldn't afford the repairs for the tappet noise it developed. One day I'll buy another, can't beat the burble it made.

It’s been dead since the 90s/ early 2000s, back when it was a fun, manual, cool car with lots of character. Now they are just bland automatic bubbles with no character, I wish automakers would go back and make some of the cool cars like they did in the 90s / early 2000s

I would love to see basic trucks make a comeback.

I once owned a Subaru mini van with a 3 cilinder engine in the back. That was a very fun car to drive !
