Gasket blows on 2.5 t
@Jez4prez1Ай бұрын
@@gedas3419 nah it primarily effected non-turbo models, since they had cheaper gaskets. 2.5 NA is one with main issues. I had it on my 2.5 NA Legacy which was a 2004 (which was in the range of when the problem existed, it was in the 00 models). So after 10-15+ years the gaskets went bad. But I was still driving around for years with a leaking gasket lol, the guy at the dealer told me in theory it can last years, and for me it wasn't worth repairing since the car value was too low. The issue may appear on some lower end turbo models also maybe (but it def wouldn't have been as widespread), the real issue was the 2.5 NA. And the solution was an STI gasket, since they are higher grade and multi-layered.

The driving is great, better than mine, I wish I had a place like this to drive at my leisure, but man seeing various signage leads me to believe these are public, open roads and if so, thats not a great look. As much as we Subaru drivers would like it, the world is not our rally stage, and we cant just treat every gravel public road we see as if we are our own Colin McRaes

@Jez4prez1Ай бұрын
@@funnykenjiIt's because Subaru AWD is higher level compared to anything else. The WRX STI's had 3 diffs, with true AWD. The only other AWD system up there and which is in similar league is Audi. Most "AWD" is just only part-time AWD, and are primarily FWD or RWD. Even Tesla's do that with their AWD, where the front motor disengages. You can even see tests where some of the cheaper AWD systems just burnout then turn off for safety when trying to drive up a basic hill. And the way they split power is different too. This is why Subaru is very good for soft offroading, like sand, gravel, dirt, etc. They even are superior to 4x4 in such conditions. But then the second you start needing clearance and start climbing boulders etc, then obviously a 4x4 is far superior (where they have diff locks, and they are far stronger, with more metal construction for extreme 4x4 beatings). There is a video of a Forester driving up a real steep sand hill that is pretty funny. And similar videos of them driving in mud and outperforming 4x4's thru real deep mud puddles etc, which proves how good they are in soft off-roading scenarios. But that is what they're made for, i.e. rally. The STI's even came from factory with softer suspension, they were never made for track (all those journalists over the decades trying to compare them to other cars with track times etc, comparing them to EVO's on track (EVO's were always released from factory with a more track focused setup), so the journalists were always completely missed the entire point of the cars to begin with. There are only a few rare models that were released from factory with track in mind, like the Spec C Type RA-R etc, and these were released after the fact since everyone kept on trying to track them, or judging performance and writing reviews based only on track performance and other bad metrics, which they were never designed for to begin with.
