Before doing a fluid/filter change I tracked the fluid temp in summer heat for a week or so, after service the temp dropped by about 20F on average. i work in car rental, and I drive this generation of Sentra around a lot. as an owner of a B15 Spec V, the B18 picked right back up where the B16 and B17 fumbled and took the platform in the direction it should have gone when the B15 needed to be replaced. it's an amazing car, new life for the Sentra platform, and the base model cars we have in our rental fleet can easily outdo what my modded B15 is already capable of. all of Sarah's thoughts on this car are a mirror of my own thoughts on the B18, from the well deserved praise to the little negatives she brought up. the B18 just needs its chance to truly become what it can really be and reach its fullest potential, and it can shine like its SE-R predecessors once did. my hope in Nissan is not very deep, however, but I myself would very much like to see Nissan bring some inexpensive fun back to their lineup. theSR is setting the right foundation for it, now they just need to build something amazing with it.

So here it is: The first production car to use a continuously variable transmission (CVT) was the 1958 DAF 600, built in the Netherlands. However, the idea for a CVT has been around for centuries, with Leonardo da Vinci sketching a design in 1490. Other early patents for CVTs were filed in the 1880s by Daimler and Benz.

I really hope that Nissan did not give up on the VC system. As expected, it had some VERY serious initial production reliability problems, but could end up being something we all want in a turbocharged engine. The VC system is essentially the 2020 version of VVT, especially if Nissan's claims of improving balance and ring wear(inline formats) are true. Given the problems that people had with it, it is perfectly reasonable for them to pull it from the market for a year or two and get it better sorted so that it does not end up with a Powershift, Vanos, self milling Hyundai I4, or GM V8 bottom end(16'-current fail bearings) reputation.

What was the weird whine sound it made at the end of each rev? Sounded like it was jumping another 1000 rpm. You made an excellent point about analyzing the reliability and longevity of cars in this price range. By definition, cars in this range are bought by people who likely can barely afford maintenance, making these far more likely to make an appearance in episodes of Just Rolled In but that may not accurately reflect the design or build quality of the car itself, only the economic strata of the typical buyer.
