As someone who has been working on ollie for 6 months, this is the best advice out there. Take foot positioning for example. Aaron Kyro says, put feet closer together. Sure if you are a pro - this works great, cause you do ollies as easily as blinking your eye. But for a beginner - as the girl says - it is the worst you can do. Do the opposite, you will feel more stable, you will level the board much better ... you won't hear this often from any tutorials. GOOD JOB SARAH!
@SarahParkMatott3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I'm glad you appreciated the content. 😃 (I obviously agree that this is important lol) I think there is a little disconnect between some of the skaters making tutorials and the ones watching them. Like this foot positioning example, I think most of the teachers assume that skaters want to know how to ollie higher after they learn how to level out the ollie, when a lot of skaters are trying to learn how to "ollie higher" because they don't know how to level out the ollie. So the intended audience and the actual audience seem to be a bit different, without either side realizing it. And so, it seems to be a bit of a cycle.
@sugaranderson13 жыл бұрын
very well done on this ollie tutorial! these are the information which every beginner needs to know. most especially, the front foot placement. majority of the tutorial demonstrated the front foot in the middle of the board to level it out! keep it up!
@SarahParkMatott3 жыл бұрын
@@sugaranderson1 Thank you! I'm glad you think so 😃🙏 Yeah, I think increasing the distance between the nose and your front foot as a beginner is usually not a great idea. It's hard enough to push the nose forward as it is 😂

Like perfecting your ollies right? I’ve taught a couple of my friends to Ollie both stationary and moving in the matter of a few days. I couldn’t imagine you’re failing to actually ollie.
@lemn63173 жыл бұрын
i feel it all depends on each person and what you feel comfortable with. for example. im learning how to ollie but its much easier for me to keep my feet closer together and when it comes to popping a different foot position feels more comfortable and better to pop with.

Finally second video I've seen where the slide is disproved. I'm pretty sure I don't even "slide". I don't know where that even came from. People overstate and over-emphasize the slide! Barely any slide. More like a scratch to me.

Mitchie Brusco shows this really well by doing an Ollie with his hand and there is no slide whatsoever. The front foot is simply levelling out the board.

Excellent video! I'm not a beginner, but I still appreciated your perspectives. At a certain point, it seems like one kinda hits a limit with ollie height. I've been skating for years and it seems I have a max height that I can only hit on a good day. I think genetics or body type might have something to do with it. Already got my first ollie right after your advice. THANK YOU! like share subscribed
@SarahParkMatott3 жыл бұрын
Aww nooo! Pinching the board is really easy to overlook. The big problem is that pros and advanced skaters are soo good that the space they need between the ground and their deck is really small, and they can keep the tail really close to their foot. So, it’s hard to see the space and it even looks like they are jumping right off the ground. But! I am super stoked that that was the last piece of the puzzle for you! Congrats on your ollie 💪💪

Great video thanks! Your 5-step Ollie method is also innovative and excellent. The main thing it adds for me is muscle memory ‘at-speed’ which is what makes it so hard to translate the slow steps from other how to videos into an actual Ollie. I used your method to get a beginner-level switch Ollie and it worked in the span of maybe 20 minutes. Lots of room for me to improve them, but I never ever thought I would land any kind of switch Ollie at all before seeing your video.

That's awesome! I'm really happy to hear that it helped you so much. I actually came up with the method while learning switch myself. (put the front foot too dam close to the middle) another of my problem is i pop and jump super high but don’t level enough. so my ollies always look like a 60 degree ankle super high off the ground then i land back on without the most essential boned motion in ollie. even doe i get to level out (sometimes), it’s usually again popping and jumping super high but only leveling out with a limited height. so thanks for the tip sarah!! love your videos and your calming voice

Haha that happens! It's really easy to practice something that actually gets in the way. I also tried to ollie with my foot super close to the middle for a while, so I tried it all out 😬 I'm glad that you're getting closer to the ollie and that you enjoyed my video!! It takes a long time, but you'll definitely get it 💪

This is right on the money. I skated all day yesterday and was nailing these fairly high. First thing this morning I tried one and ate it pretty good. I’m going to probably just put ten minutes a day on these till next weekend. For some reason I’ve had a much harder time with shove it’s... Just a suggestion but I’d love to see video on different boards and wheel sizes. I’m popping these Ollie’s much easier on my double kick set up with 50/100 bones but I usually ride a cruiser with 65/78 hawgs. Would love to hear your opinion.

Perfect video. (The one leg pop without all the jumping). I recently hurt my hip from doing an ollie and I desperately need to strengthen my pop and lifting my back leg or what’s the point in skating. I’ve spent so long skating it’s scary to give it up.

yess that truly does help. It's just a good exercise in general 😃 Hope you can rehab that injury well and keep shredding 🙌

I have already got my ollie's down but this video is really interesting. Its how I teach some one how to ollie.

Thanks! I’m glad you liked it despite already knowing how to ollie 😃🙏

#7 & #8 equal facts. Also very impressive that you can ollie from the goofy stance. Great job!

Thank you!🙏 I can do a small switch ollie (goofy for me), but I'm working on it :) the "goofy" footage was just inverted "regular" footage

The way your broke everything down is seriously impressive. Love all the research and editing that went into this! Seriously, never stop making videos!! The quality of your content is fantastic. I’ve only been seriously skating on and off for a few months and have been a little upset at my progress so far. I went out for a few hours today keeping all the tips from this video in mind and I seriously had the best time. It was fun and refreshing which I haven’t felt in awhile. My ollies still look like a beginner’s, and I still have so much work to do to get a strong foundation in skating in general, but I’m excited to just keep skating and progressing!

This is really great, thank you for dividing your video into easy to find sections. I came here for advice on levelling out my board and found what I was looking for easily. It remains to be seen if application is as easy, but your advice is very clear.

Ay happy to hear that 😃 application is typically not easy haha but, really hope it helps 💪
