Absolutely recommend Bristol as a location to move too. Good airport, access to great local trails and brilliant footpaths around the city, plus great places to explore all really easily.

The northeast is a great place! The countryside up there is breathtaking and the seaside is fun. Have you ever ran the Hadrian’s Wall path up there? Also, it’s only a short drive to the Lake District, which of course is a trail runner’s paradise!

We moved from London a couple of years ago. Decided on Bristol, right decision for us! Incredible for running on any terrain, best of which being close to Brecon Beacons for mountain adventures. Best of luck with your decision, lots to consider... Happy trails.

Kingston is really a good idea for a place to move. I stayed there for two months for work and loved it. Close to London but lots of nice places to run....you have Richmond and Bushy Parks nearby, plus the thames path.

Another great video Sarah and a good insight. If you want more mountain stuff then you should look at the Ultra Trail Snowdonia from Apex Running. They do a 50k, 100k and 165k (previous years have been a 50mile and 100mile). I'm hoping to do the 50k next June and I've also got SDW50 in April too, really looking forward to them both!

Great video Sarah. Many thanks for answering my question. Just a quick follow up, is yoga or pilates better for runners?
@SarahPlace4 жыл бұрын
they are both great dave. have a look at yin yoga, that is particularly good i find because it's holding stretches for long periods of time, so i'm really enjoying that at the mo, and then pilates is great for your core strength so it's good to do a bit of both :)

@SarahPlace4 жыл бұрын
yeah i use the hydrapak ones as they have a wide nozzle so can put powders in a lot more easily. i had some old salomon ones which would always leak (i think they have since updated the models now so might be better) but these work really well and easier to clean as well

Great video as always. This might be an obvious question, but once you've had your recovery week in wk5, do you then pick up straight from the mileage you'd reached in wk4, or drop back a bit more to consolidate?
@SarahPlace4 жыл бұрын
hi pete, yes so for example if your weekly mileage for the 4 weeks is 20, 22, 24, 26 then for week 5 drop it back to say 18-20 and then week 6 pick it up from 26 again, just as a rough guide!

On these long runs how do you decide when to walk? Do you just walk the uphill sections or do you have a break every certain amount of miles?
@SarahPlace4 жыл бұрын
hey lizzie, usually just if there's a steep or long hill, i'll kind of run up it for a bit to start with until i slow down so much that it's faster just to walk hahaha

Hi Sarah, I've entered the half Marathon Du Mont Blanc which has 1650+ elevation. I've very little trail/elevation experience, I was wondering how often you think I should be getting out to the hills? Do you or Ben have trail race plans you sell? Cheers, Tom
@SarahPlace4 жыл бұрын
oooh nice one tom! wow that is quite some elevation for a half marathon! ideally just try to get some elevation in during your longer runs at the weekend, doesn't have to be every weekend, maybe a few times a month just to get comfortable with it and your confidence up on the trails and lots of strength training to build those mountain legs. that will be an epic race!
@tommosal4 жыл бұрын

How did u first start to include fuelling into your runs? I currently just have water for longer runs but then struggle with low energy near the end
@garethmaccauley35074 жыл бұрын
If gels then get a selection of different ones. I think Sarah has a video on it. When you do try something on a runs my advice don't venture far from home in case things goes wrong.
@SarahPlace4 жыл бұрын
hey james, i normally just fuel if i'm going to be out longer than 2 hours and i usually have a combination of gels and tailwind which is like an energy powder that i just stir into my water so maybe start off with something like that if you're currently just having fluids. or just take a gel on your next run, even if it's just a short run to test it out, it's all about trial and error when it comes to nutrition!
@jamesshelley64784 жыл бұрын
