“They’re too busy worrying about what other people think of them to be worrying about you” - this is TRUTH.

All beginner runners need to hear this, completely true.

This is so relevant in life generally, stop caring about what others think of you because most likely they are not thinking about you
@AML147
@AML147 4 жыл бұрын
Mark Nichols that ain’t technically true. A better way to put it is that they’ll think about you for a second and move on. What should be focused on is that it doesn’t matter what they think and you just do you. The whole idea that people aren’t thinking about you because they’re too busy with themselves is a comforting lie. This is coming from personal experience plus I know psychology. I suppose I should add that it is true many people overestimate how much they’re actually being judged. Doesn’t mean they aren’t judging. That’s why I say just focus more on you and do the best you can.

Hi Sarah, thanks for posting this video. Great to hear that you started from such casual beginnings and gradually worked your way to where you are. I've only been running for just over 12 months and I'm in my mid-40s. I was put off running for years because I thought there was a stigma, but now I don't worry what people think. I am just setting my own goals and running at my own pace - I just wish I had started earlier.

Good advice Sarah, thinking about my running ups and downs I can see how I could improve now (get back on track). Consistency and mileage have always been my issue. If I do too much I always seem to pick up some sort of injury and then when it comes to race day it feels very much like its in the lap of the gods as to how well it goes. Some advice about that would be helpful.

This is so helpful and inspiring to hear. I've not long graduated and started working, and only started properly getting into running in the last year. I've always been quite naturally talented at endurance running, but never had the time to commit to training until I started working from home over the last few months. I don't know any other 'serious' runners or relative newbies trying to get those times down so can be quite difficult doing it all alone at times with so little guidance, so lovely to hear other people's long distance experiences. Thank you for the inspiration, great to hear other people who have such a passion for running too!

Great advice Sarah, any advice on a recovery week? Like do i just do 5 or 6 ''easy''short runs or how does it work?
@SarahPlace
@SarahPlace 4 жыл бұрын
hey rudolph, its up to you, you can either just run easy that week and bring the volume down slightly or what i did during marathon training was i kept the structure of the week the same with some speedwork still just to keep a bit of intensity there but reduced the volume of each run slightly, so the total volume was about 15% lower than the previous 3-4 weeks if that makes sense?

Don't forget to do a speed session on the track or spints for time during a run ! 400's or 800's are good 12× 800 at 3:00 min. for 3h marathon 3: 10-15 for you to improve. Even sprint the straights and jogg the turns and reverse directions for muscle balance! Do year round once or twice a month!

Some good advice there Sarah. I’ve only recently started doing easy runs to increase my mileage and it’s so true what you say not to care about what others might think - not just on Strava but when you’re out and you keep seeing all these other people apparently running quicker than you. Well, they’re probably not quicker than you. They’re probably running 3k at their tempo pace or above. Just look at Ben’s easy runs and I don’t think anyone would say he’s a slow runner! 😎 Looking forward to some gear reviews which I can share with my daughter.
