Small woodworking note! The wood glue is actually gonna be a hella strong bond, stronger than the screw. The bracketing will likely help for reinforcement so that the any bending stress doesn't make the wood snap, but the screws in the joints are totally not needed. (If you've ever had a wood-glued joint fail, it's never the glue that fails, something normally splitters and breaks instead.)

Pinning this because that's super helpful info, Thank You!
@FranNyan
@FranNyan Жыл бұрын
@@SarahSpaceman No problem! Just make sure the glue has had the full 24-48 hours to dry before you stress the bond any (check the bottle for the specifics, some glues have different drying times,) and that you clamp it best you can the first few hours that it's drying. You could even use the screw to function as your clamp, then replace it with a wood dowel after. Saves you a little weight and you can sand if flush if you need to.

I must be unlucky 😂 I've had wood glue fail me once but the glue was put on 10+ years before the break happened. Tho I will say I glued it back on with a screw and it hasn't moved since

@@sploompdoomper 10+ years is stretching it! It will degrade over time. I've done work with vintage furniture and the glue on those often needs to be sanded down and redone if there's been any sort of break. (also notice where the break happened, most of the times, I find the glue firmly attached to one side of the wood, with shreds of the other side still attached, which makes cleaning it off to redo the joint such a PIA....) I think it's safe to say any joinery done for cosplay will have other issues to worry about 10 years on more than the glue :) Entropy is not kind to wearables and lugables.

As a kind of brand new cosplayer, I can't thank you enough for keeping the "it didn't work part" in! It's very frustrating thinking that I'm probably "not really good at that thing finally" when it's actually difficult for everyone. So thanks again, it was very inspiring! (Currently working on 3 cosplays that are almost finish *very hyped*; Houzukigami and Fuzukigami from Natsume Yuujinchou and Fearne Calloway from Critical Role - its tough, but hey, it's still very fun :))

Even if it says no fumes please still wear a respirator when handling resin. I used to get terrible headaches from using "fume free" resins indoors. Now I wear one and open the front door (5ft away) and set up a strong fan in the doorway to pull the air out, no more headaches. Fume free essentially is just "scent free" but it can still do damage to your lungs and other organs.

I haven't made a cosplay costume in over 3 years, the plan is to make Lisa form Genshin for next summer and your videos are getting me so inspired and excited to start making the costume! I absolutely love to do crafts, actually right now I'm knitting, but I find it very hard to begin crafting. It's always been easier to do stuff with a friend, but my cosplay friends ordered their costumes so there's not gonna be any "cosplay making sleepovers", but your videos work as if I was making costumes with a friend! I really love how you show all the struggle, trial and error that goes into crafting and then continue to finish the project, I tend to give up too easily when something doesn't go right the first time, but your process gives a lot of motivation ❤

I love that the base-teasing ponytails is the stuff of my nightmares as a child. If you have ever watched Killer Clowns from Outer Space, I was 4 and candy floss cocoons and being sucked off one juice through a spiral straw is the permanent memory nightmare I had. lol I love the ponytail cage! Great idea for keeping the weight down while keeping the volume on a simple structure. I'm also tackling at the base of the wig, long rabbit twintails (got to go the 'Jessie' and Repunssel route because they are uber tapered at the base to volume at the ends) in late 2023. I have to finish 2 cosplays right now for late January and May...)

I've been watching/listening to this video while working on my cosplay of Chell from Portal (which I decided to make from scratch a month before the event I wanted to attend with it), particularly while making the long fall boots on the day before the event. It was 2 am, I was wallowing in a pit of anxiety and dread thinking there's no way I'll finish them on time (I still only had the foundation, a couple of sheets of cheap thin craft foam and some faux leather which I've never worked with before). I had to use every last drop of my willpower to push through, but in the end I somehow managed it, even though I had to adjust the boots once in a while and they weren't awfully comfortable, everyone loved the cosplay and complimented me on the boots which haven't really existed 24 hours prior. Seeing your dedication and will to try out every last idea because giving up just isn't an option, even if it's messy and weird, really inspired me and helped me make it in the end. So thank you

Discovered your channel this morning, very bleary eyed, having the first cup of tea, here in the North of Ireland. Intrigued, and seriously impressed at your dedication and patience! Also, the tin to set the glue gun in for safety and lessening the risk of hot glue balls dropping on skin or projects, genius. Have never seen that handy helper idea before. I have so many projects on the go at the moment, from Dr Who, to Star Trek TNG to Haddonfield from the Halloween movies. Oh and 3 oil paintings currently in progress. This amazing project is a very brave choice, I don't have the courage to even try to style a wig. Great work, seriously great hard work (only at the bit where you are glueing, fluffing the weft onto the netting).

My how literal question was when I cosplayed the Predator. I wanted to do a similar thing I saw in the AvP film when one turns his back and the dreads just swish so perfectly I wanted it. All tutorials I could find would allow that so I came up with my own idea, I braided rope. It weights way more and took so long, but I absolutely love it, worth it for me

You did such a great job ✨️ and as someone who just started styling their own wig, I learned plenty as well 💕 Also, you look wonderful in your full Miku glory 🥹💕

While I watch this, I redid part of the bangs on my amethyst wig, because I realize that I did them wrong. This was so perfect to play in the background

It's amazing and the song provided just the right amount of drama. I've worn premade costumes before but I'm hoping to try making my own soon and the character has 6 arms and a pretty dramatic hairstyle so I'm expecting it to be a challenge, but this video is really inspiring.

hey for your tacky glue solution!!! my mom and many other ppl who crochet use a tacky glue in water to soak lacey things they have made that nee structure. i have memories of my mum in the mid 90's making angles tree toppers and such for xmas and she soaked them and then dried them on a foam cone covered in plastic wrap so it will dry in the desired shape. this is an old school techniue used in other fiber arts as well and because it is water soluble it is possible to undo or adjust later if needed.
