Here is my review of the DSC David Warner The Bull 31 Cricket Bat. I really thank Adrian for supplying it, but sort of feel like I'm throwing him under a Bus. That is not my intention and I really feel bad about this bat.
I said I would be honest in my reviews and there is no way of hiding this bat is a turd as a players bat.
I have tried to be humorous, but my disgust clearly bubbled to the surface. You are a great guy Adrian for supplying the bats. DSC you should be ashamed of yourselves. This is Bull.

It is for this exact reason i stay away from SS, SG and DSC bats especially when purchasing online. Middling the ball with a full width bat is already hard enough

Thanks James. I’m happy with the video from a technical perspective. Not happy that I had to be so brutal to a local players bat. I tried to mix in some humour and be balanced. Overall its a good watch.

I recently just picked up a TC1260, the retailer was pushing me a player edition as I asked for suggestions on which bat they recommended. I politely denied because I truly believe these “player edition” bats are just marketing BS.

A great review Marc! Disappointed for players that end up with bats like this, as in my view they could have spent a 1/4 of the price to get similar a playing bat( not looks or profile)..

I am a 10 year retired cricketer and this is the first ever bat review I’ve watched. Very interesting and informative. Seems like the marketing spin on cricket bats is similar to golf clubs these days. My 2 best ever bats were a GN750 that Robin Smith rejected on weight and a GN1000 I believe. Thanks for the video.

Hi John, Robin Smith and a GN750. Not seen either unless 750 was the grade eg 500, 750, 1000. My favourites…GN Ultimate 1000 LE hollow core, B3 Beluga grade 3 at 2.9 and potentially my Rob Pack if I make it back. Your not wrong on the marketing for the big brands and it works.

@@CricketBatInfo Yes I believe it was stickered up as a Ultimate 750. No idea what it would’ve been if Robin had used it. I watched your recent video on the Screaming Cat and remembered I had one of the early ones but it didn’t look much like the one you reviewed. Had the pleasure of playing some cricket with Julian at Subi Floreat in Perth in the late 80’s when he was getting started.

Absolutely agree...across most brands the same sort of nonsense is going on. Call it a players bat and charge 25% extra. i personally found new SF bats to be reasonably priced and have value for money...

I wonder if the the quality control is sub par for dsc. The one I got was just a touch over 2.10, with 42mm edges, 32mm toe, and full width. I did however, have to measure the specs for 4 different bats at the retailers and pick the best one. The performance of all 4 though seems fantastic

Why do you need a player edition? My playlists show what i have owned and used and own now. I don’t need someone else’s name on my bat

I try not to show biased content and just focus on the bat in front of me at the time and share any thoughts in the videos as I film. If I only liked one brand then why would people send me others? You can see in my playlist and my old Facebook albums I have purchased bats from all over the world. Many B3 in the past because I liked the idea of picking the stickers I liked. Don't own any now, but miss my first B3 Beluga 1 Stripe. I have not purchased a bat since 2020. I won a GM Stokes Players and sold it and explained why in that video. If you follow the channel you would understand my process.

Are all the dsc bats like this? I’ve always wanted one because dsc is the initials of my full name so i always thought it would be cool. But I’ve always used gray-Nicholls and anything else feels wrong.

I have reviewed 3 player editions and I think a earlier model. Now ypu actually don’t expect me to know if all are like that. Watch the videos and also look on MyCricketGear on Instagram i think he has done a few. The Warner was not a good example. Narrowing is common on bats lately because everyone only sees edge size. Check the channel page playlists for players bats and dsc

Looks like Warner edition.. Has excessive sanding? Def not good, unless warner uses that specification and its a legit copy.. He didn't use kids width when he used GN tho.

Sanding joke. Nice. 😅. Warner had those huge 50-65 mm edge bats. I think this shape is similar to the Sikander, which was basically a kaboom copy with a round toe

@@CricketBatInfo That's not the fault of any brands . Its our fault. We demand in market light weight with 40mm edges and full profile and light weight. That's happening becouse cricket is developing super fast . I have seen more expensive bats then that and still they are very bad . Shortage of wood Too much demand We can't blame any brands. We are demanding too much that's it !!

Poor show from dsc..the quality of the Indian made bats seems to be dropping dramatically wouldn't surprise me if ss, sg, mrf are doing the same thing. Don't know about the width but the so called players bats these companies are selling are nowhere near what they used to be. New balance seem to be churning out some good bats still. Keep up the good work Marc 👏

I'm getting a custom size 5-6 bat that will fill the gauge. I'm an adult but short. And need a shorter bat that has the power so I need the full profile of an adult bat but just in a junior size. It'll also be a players grade willow...am I falling for the marketing? Because I'm picking out the wood and cleft. JP Gavan will be making it for me once he finds the cleft for me

Well if Josh is making it I doubt he will rip you off like this. I picked out a cleft once or twice when buying B3, but if you trust the bat maker ask for things that that are more important like ping and pickup, the shape and size of the handle and the middle where you need it. I would not go on asking for players willow or dimensions. If there is a particular shape you like show that. If you like all sapwood say that

Not good to see and completely take your point. I love your content but don't you think some consumers and reviewers are causing this behaviour from brands? 38mm edge, 60mm spine isn't big?! The more 'specs' are constantly promoted and discussed in this way, the more brands will do this kind of thing to hit them. I don't agree this should be a Player's Edition, but most people wouldn't care about the narrow back as its got decent edges and nice grains, which is something they've been told or come to conclusion of (as its measured to within a point of a mil in every video), that this makes a good bat.

Yeah but without the offset and the narrowing its not a 38 mm edge is it? I measure each bat as a point of consistency for every video. I don’t get off on it lol. Some of my favourite bats had less than 38 mm edges. The fad is full 40 mm to meet the gauge and without measuring you cannot see what is going on.

So why are people measuring the edges, toe, splice etc to within points of mm's then? Each video I see online nowadays is mainly about edge size, spine height, specs etc. When did good bats come down to measurements? The more videos concentrate on this, the more manufacturers will do to dupe people by using tactics, which the same people who then complain about them, are partly the reason they manufacturers are using them. If nobody measured 'specs' and went off quality of willow, workmanship, quality of handles and feel etc, then bats would be all the better for it and people wouldn't think 38mm + edges and 67mm spines etc were what they needed.

These brand just make fool of all the customers. Charging the price of SH bat for the size 5 bat by just engraving The Bull. The same applicable for SS and SG. Boutique brands are much better than them as they charge realistic for what they call grade 1+ bat.

There's this cricket dealer in Houston, TX who keeps swearing by David Warner bats and how he wasn't able to keep them in stock. First it was the GNs then the spartans, now dsc. He keeps telling us there is one guy in the US who buys 10 of these once they're out

These player editions are everywhere, people need to realise the mistake they are making in buying them. Not worth the money at all in my opinion. A B3 2 stripe bat would do the job any time and will save you a lot.

A word of advice. It's preferable not to have music continuously playing in the background whilst your reviewing the bat. It suggests what you have to say isn't important, causing you to shout to be heard. It's like a radio station. In addition you sigh too often, implying you're both bored and tired.

Tbh that whole fiasco cost them a fortune. They had a container of the new model kabooms ready to send out and got stuck with them. I reviewed a unreleased one. Probably the only kaboom i liked. Stickers were always yuck

Well unfortunately customers are easily convinced by not only the brands but also the retailers who are equally to blame if not more so, players bats are only a thing if a player gives you one of his bats and everything else is spin and marketing with a massively inflated cost. The retailers are pedalling this rubbish and are they kicking back and warning customers well of course not, most of them only care about the money and also don’t forget a lot of these retailers actually have zero knowledge of the industry or why do they push this crap.
