Thank you for your kind feedback! I'm delighted to hear that you found the video helpful in training your adult rescue dog. It's fantastic that you're committed to working with your dog and providing her with the training she needs. Teaching the "sit" command can sometimes be a challenge, but I'm glad the video provided you with a clear demonstration. Consistency and patience are key when training, so keep practicing and rewarding your dog's progress. If you have any more questions or need further assistance, feel free to ask. Wishing you and your furry friend all the best on your training journey!

This is so amazing to watch. We recently just got a cane corso x presa canaro puppy (8weeks) and been watching a lot of video and found yours very different but so effective given that the puppy in the video hasn’t been traid yet. I’ll try doing this with my puppy without the treats . Wish me luck !

Good luck!! But don't depend on luck. Be positive and it is possible to do it without treats. It is just a bad habit that dog owners depend on treats. If you remove treats out of your mind, you'll see that things will change dramatically.

Saro, I love your videos. I came from watching Stonnie Davis before I got my 10 week old lab and I love his videos but one thing he never really talked a lot about was expectations. He did emphasize that you need consistency and you need goals but the one thing I never thought about through some of my frustration with house training her and some simple commands like sit, stay is that I need to not expect her to do those right away. My question lies in her sitting. When I do get her attention, she typically will come to me and then automatically sit without me asking her to. She's a fairly mellow puppy right now. The first thing I also noticed when crate training is that she doesn't jump to get out. She's very calm when I open the door and sometimes she won't come out even if I call her unless she's hungry, needs to potty, etc. Do you think during my training her how to sit, she's catching on more when I teach it more or is she just naturally developing the knowledge to sit and wait? Sorry this is so lengthy, I'm just fairly new to it all. I've been having her walk along my left side against a wall in my house with a treat in hand (cooked chicken pieces) and I'll abruptly stop and she will automatically sit without saying anything. Should I continue this way or should I start using hand gestures and the verbal command rather than her targeting the treat? Thank you!!
@SaroDogTraining
@SaroDogTraining 5 жыл бұрын
I would guess that she is fammilier with sit but not fully advanced in it. After she sits, you have to be able to ask her a follow up command like come or stay. When she is the crate and you want her out of it, you can ask her to come. Also, I highly suggest not to use treats to train your puppy as it has many negative effects. You can do the same exercises that you do but wthout treats. Use her faviourite toy or praise to reward her. Make sure to subscribe and ring the bell icon on my channel as I will be posting a video next week which will explain it all.

Saro I'm so happy I found your videos. Just got my 9 week old pup to sit for first time on his own!! question, it says you should only do 15 minute sessions. How long should you wait until you do another session? I really need to get this boy understanding NO, because he keeps grabbing any article of clothing or material he sees moving. Also you mention you only introduce toys to him in these training sessions. So what is he doing when he's not training? Do you give him anything, like a bone or a cong to keep busy with when he's not in a crate & not training? Thanks!
@SaroDogTraining
@SaroDogTraining 3 жыл бұрын
With a 9 weeks old puppy, you don't really train it just introduce the words such as the NO and tasks without any expectorations. The real training starts at about 3 to 4 months of age. 15 minutes of training using my method of play and praise reward system is ideal once a day. Other methods are different. Toys are used for training and chew toys and raw bones are ideal for entertainment. I have 2 other dogs, Ben a 30 lb 6 yr old male and Katinka, a 11lb 13 yr old chiweenie. Ben and Boris are buddy's. Katinka and Boris, not so much. She is fine with Boris as long as he leaves her alone. He's too hyper for her. Boris likes to take at least 40 min a day to antagonize and argue with her. Her high pitched bark and his baying constantly for at least 20 min is nerve wracking. How do I get him to leave her be?

I understand how frustrating it can be when your beagle puppy is not responding to your commands and keeps biting. It's important to remember that puppies, especially beagles known for their playful and energetic nature, require patience and consistent training. Here are a few tips to help address these issues: Redirect the behavior: When your puppy starts biting, redirect their attention to an appropriate chew toy or interactive puzzle toy. This helps teach them what they are allowed to bite and chew on. Consistently reinforcing this redirection will help them understand what is acceptable behavior. Use positive reinforcement: Instead of focusing on the "no" command, emphasize positive reinforcement. When your puppy displays good behavior, such as not biting or following commands, reward them with praise, treats, or a favorite toy. This encourages them to associate good behavior with positive outcomes. Provide sufficient exercise and mental stimulation: Beagles are an active breed that requires both physical exercise and mental stimulation to prevent boredom. Make sure your puppy is getting regular exercise through walks, playtime, and interactive games. Mental stimulation can be achieved through puzzle toys, training sessions, and scent games. Consistency and repetition: Dogs learn through repetition and consistent reinforcement. Ensure that all family members are on the same page with commands and rules. Consistency in your approach will help your puppy understand what is expected of them. Seek professional guidance: If you find that your puppy's behavior persists or becomes a safety concern, consider consulting a professional dog trainer or behaviorist. I can provide personalized guidance and address specific challenges you may be facing. To do so, simply book a free video call with me here: sarodogtraining.overdogdigital.com/interviews-page Remember, training takes time and patience. Be consistent, positive, and provide clear boundaries and appropriate outlets for your puppy's energy. With time, consistent training, and positive reinforcement, your beagle puppy will learn to listen and respond to your commands.

If one of my puppies goes potty outside should I praise him or her with a treat. I feel like it would work since my golden loves the treats I give her and so does my papillion. The only reason I am asking is because I have read that giving a dog a treat after they go potty could result into them pretending to go potty. This is very confusing and wrong training for the poor puppy. He says sit, dog doesn’t sit, then he says no and then pushes the dog to sit. So “no” means sit???
@SaroDogTraining
@SaroDogTraining 3 жыл бұрын
That is not confusing. If you had watched the video from positive point of view, you would have learned that this is the introduction period where we just introduce the words without having any expectations. I start introducing the no which is a verbal cue for correction and I expect the puppy to make mistakes so I can reintroduce the verbal cue of no. That is called negative reinforcement in science.
@Brunodino101
@Brunodino101 3 жыл бұрын
I don’t actually agree with having “low expectations” in the beginning. You do not give enough credit to puppies at that age. They are extremely capable Saro. Your dog must have these basic things down almost perfectly before the age of 6 months.
@SaroDogTraining
@SaroDogTraining 3 жыл бұрын
You can ask yourself, were you walking and talking at the same time when you were a year old? A puppy before 4 months old is not very capable, physically and mentally. 6 months and older is about the time that you can start pushing it a bit.
