This is such a great video! Many videos are intended to tech people how to do professional agility. All I want is a game to keep my Australian Shepard engaged! She just recently turned 1, and in the summers she’s a mountain trail dog, so she gets to run 20 miles each day and chase bears and herd horses. In the winter we’ve been having a hard time keeping her active and relaxed and engaged. I did this once and she was having so much fun!
@SaroDogTraining3 жыл бұрын
Glad it was helpful! Jus so you now, 20 miles of daily activity is just too much for any dog. keep it within an hour of activity a day. Too much activity and exercise will help dogs o develop hyperactivity and not be able to calm down. Did you know that a healthy dog should be sleeping up to 16 hours a day?
@annestone66493 жыл бұрын
@@SaroDogTraining I appreciate your concern, and I should have have explained myself better. We have an outfitting camp 20 miles into wilderness that she travels to with us as our trail dog. She usually only runs that much once per week or less. She is a working dog, and that’s her job. If she gets too exhausted we pull her up into the saddle to avoid injury. I do appreciate your concern and information though!

@SaroDogTraining Жыл бұрын
In most breeds, I don't suggest allowing the dog to jump high due to fact that they are still developing. I also feel that your puppy is still developing and is not confident enough to jump up which is normal and it will develop as she builds the stamina and the confidences that she needs as she grows up. Don't force. Let it happen naturally.

thanks Saro, I have a very bright cockapoo and she LOVES learning tricks. The point about not using treats is well taken. I've learned alot from this one video! Update: her first time she was not interested in jumping over the bar, she kept playing with the supports (trying to steal them away). She jumped up on a chair, a trick she already knew "jump up/jump down" but she's used to getting treats for tricks. I guess I have to retrain her tricks without the treats. She looked disappointed when I put the bar away. I will try again after a break.

Thanks so much for a common-sense approach. I’m just starting with agility training for FUN (not competition) with my Sheltie. We all need to work on ourselves and for sure humans need more help than the dogs. 70%-90% of dog training is dog owner training. If you do it right while having fun and be confident, your sheltie will do whatever you say and teach. Just pretend that treats do not exist!

@SaroDogTraining6 жыл бұрын
When she is whining, it means that she is communicating to you. She is saying that she doesn't feel comfortable doing what you are asking it. It could be that she is spoiled, which is OK. How do we advance with the dog, I am trying to teach my lab to jump a little higher than she is used to but she runs around it. I also have to use treats because she doesn’t like any toys but once she understands what we are doing I will start taking the treats out of the mix. I work with a trainer and they said it is the best way to do it but i am still new to training large dogs ( I am also working with a GSD and I just got him today for obedience ) for I am normal to training Chihuahuas but any advice would be helpful. Also your dog is adorable and very well behaved
@SaroDogTraining5 жыл бұрын
Thank you for watching the video and your compliment to my dog. I agree he is cute and sweet and well behaved. To help your dog to jump higher, try blocking under the bar by some other bar or items. You don't really need treats to get it going. A great trainer won't rely on treats or suggest to use treats. That is a sign of weakness and not being a great trainer. It is a band-aid solution. Work on building better and stronger obedience. By improving the obedience, you will improve the connection and bond between you and your dog. Make sure you are not using treats when training obedience as well. If your dog doesn't like toys, try offering your praise. I am sure she loves that. Be more enthusiastic and interactive. Be in the moment. Be more animated. Focus on your dog and build the connection and not the results. Also, watch my new video, it will make so much sense. kzbin.info/www/bejne/r6ObYX-cbpWqqc0

@@SaroDogTraining we have a great relationship. we spend lots of time together and he's a great listener. He just has no interest in the toys i give him except to hide them deep in the couch and never use them. he does like to play tag but he's over it after about 20 seconds

Just use praise then. It doesn't have to be toys or play. I explain more in the following video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/raW5iXuloL-UgLM

My Yorkie doesn’t understand what I want him to do. He sits there and stares at me and then walks away

Start training your Yorki the basic obedience before you do this.

I have 2 girlies male and female my female does agility training and my male just does the distances better then the heights but anyways my best advice is to encourage him when he just jumps over it. It doesn’t have to be on command but at least letting him go over it is great progress and yes, master the obedience

this is unheathy training, the dog should be looking at ht eground while jumping, and running at the jump D:

Shining Diamond Stables no its not, the dog can look where ever it wants and it doesnt have to run at the jump, its not the same with dogs and horses.... learn your facts

Please remove the back ground music. It's very off putting and video was impossible to watch and follow with the music. It really isnt needed in this type of teaching video. Thanks

Sorry for that. In next videos I will consider the background music.

I love how you are explaining it because that's literally why we are getting into agility. Just to train and have fun
