@@wordwarrior2350 Not sure why you are here. If you don't understand what makes a quality watch, you won't understand what goes into a good suit, shirt shoes. It's not about keeping accurate time. You can get that with a quarts watch. To do that in a mechanical watch with nothing but gears and springs is an art. You can buy a suit at Men's Wearhouse or you can get a bespoke Huntsman. Both will cover your body more or less the same. The difference is your appreciation of the quality of how it was made. Same with a watch.

SARTORIAL TALKS The co-axial device incorporated into a watch movement counteracts the affects of gravity on the watch. Some watches (rarely) have two co-axial devices in them.
@clementr4 жыл бұрын
@@rogerdsmith no, it's not. You confound co-axial escapement with tourbillon. The tourbillon, created by Abraham-Louis Breguet, is a cage around the escapement which spins in order to, as you say, counteract the perturbations caused by gravity. And it's very rare and expensive. The co-axial escapement, created by George Daniels in 1999, is a specific escapement (inspired by the Robin escapement) which aims at preventing the escapement from disturbing the balance wheel, to keep an accurate time

I so agree. The fashion for men wearing a wristwatch like a bracelet, is not elegant. In addition, the cult of James Bond wearing dive watches with black tie, has indoctrinated a generation of men to think this is the height of sophistication. As we know, it looks ridiculous. I note that wristwatch scale is becoming smaller again, which is good to see. If we can reach a level of understanding, where sports watches are for sport and dress watches are for elegant dress, the world will be so much easier on the eye!

Mr Jacomet, I watched this video with great interest, having an amateur interest in horology and with a small collection of watches. With so many channels talking watches from a collectors point of view, or from an investors perspective, it was wonderful to see someone speaking from a passionate point of view about watches that had been selected for stylistic and aesthetic qualities. The watches I’ve collected have been purely for their wearability because I like them. Thank you so much for your insights and information. p.s. that suit looks exquisite, a beautiful colour on you...!! Praying for you and Ms Sonya, and your families. Stay safe! Great thank you Hugo, very interesting to hear your take on watches. I wanted to ask if you and Sonya (hello Sonya) were thinking of doing a series on casual wear for the gentleman. I have loved and enjoyed the series so far and have learned a great deal and I guess for me it is knowing about the art and history of suit and shoe making that has been great and the artisans themselves, so please continue. But I just thought it would be interesting and of course a minefield to get your thoughts and ideas on what you feel and think one would wear in less formal situations. Good to see you are well, I'm shooting my video tomorrow, here's hoping.

Yes Antonio, we will address the casual wear one day or another for sure. What kind of video are you shooting ? Best, Hugo

@@SARTORIALTALKS Kind of you to ask Mr Hugo, I have my own channel here and I will be shooting a second video from my home office, of course, where else can we go. It will be about sales but this one will focus on what the real opportunity for business is in this crisis. It is a new channel so there is just one video there now, this will be the second, it will be edited first after I shoot it tomorrow by my guy and we will put it up by the end of the week or beginning of next. Like you I do not do one a week. The channel is under the title - The Sales Director kzbin.info/door/0O5oTV2t22ivt7eg0zaOkQ

As a watch enthusiast i rarely see a video based on quality and optics and just a hint of brand. Its pretty fresh to see not only rolex rolex rolex, AP, patek philippe..... etc. I am more the sport watch than classical but i really love the video

Extremely good choices. Some other choices at the more affordable end: The IWC Portofino: similar to the Omega DeVille and looks stunning on a mesh bracelet. Baume & Mercier Clifton: Rose gold with either white or black dial is very simple and elegant. Longines has a great selection of classic and more modern designs that are all generally sleek and simplicity squared. Glashutte Original Senator is a gorgeous watch from something of a little cousin to A. Lange & Sohne. Harry Winston has some amazing designs. Some are quite over-the-top but their Midnight collection has a watch in white gold with a blue slate dial and simple white gold markers that is stunning. I believe Gary Oldman owns one of them and if he doesn't have good taste I don't know who has.

The faces of the 1942 from Vacheron Constantin and the F.P. Journe are like replicas of the "trench watches" that were issued to American and British soldiers in WWI & II. Different versions were made my several different watchmakers, but the general layout and the font of the numbers were always the same and very recognizable. It has been copied countless times since the war. I wear my grandfather's original still to this day. It is not large, even on the small side for a man's watch, but so very simple and elegant.

Thank you Nicholas for sharing this. I also have my grand father's watch, but unfortunately it's not working anymore (and its a pocket watch). Stay safe! Hugo

Mon tres cher Hugo, tu as un gout magnifiquement raffine! I am so pleased that you have chosen those particular Omega, Grand Seiko, and JLC models - I share your taste exactly . Such under looked timepieces. My father has worn a beautiful De Ville for 30 years and I covet it - I truly hope he was pass it on to me one day. In my personal view the 3 you selected above would be in my dream collection. I also particularly like you choice of A Lange & Sohne, Breguet, Gerard Pirregeaux, and of course the legendary Philippe Dufour! Kind regards from your friend in South Africa.

My favourite fine time-piece in my modest collection is the ones I made-to-measure by my own hand. There's a bit of love in succeeding to accomplish a task you, at first glance, thought impossible.

As someone who collects watches I found your selection really interesting. I am personally glad you didn't include Rolex even though I own some Rolex watches. There are some watches I would have liked to have seen in there, but watches, like shoes, like suits, it's personal choice, there is no right or wrong. My favourite in your list is the JLC Reverso which was designed for Polo players, and the watch I would have liked to have seen in the list is the Cartier Ballon Bleu. Great video, hope you and your loved ones are safe during these challenging times.

Thank you Paul for your contribution to the discussion (I like the Ballon Bleu also, beautiful watch). And yes we are safe and prudent. Take care my friend, Hugo

I think a Datejust should have been included for completeness sake
