Many of these things you should also keep in your office/workplace. I have extra buttons, a tie, thread, a shoe horn, and although not mentioned here some rubber booties to cover my shoes in case of rain. I also highly recommend the Saphir products. Saphir seems expensive compared to others but that little jar of Renovator will last two to three times longer than a larger bottle of comparable Bicks and it works better.

This is almost a year late but the shoe horn I added something to it. Mine has a hole in it and I put in some paracord to form a small loop as a key chain. The key chain thing was secondary though. I added it as a substitute button hook. Originally I just handed it to my grandparents with arthritis whenever they need it. Stick the loop in the button hole, loop around the button, turn it half a rotation and it pulls the button through just like a button hook. Later on though I often use it for my suspender buttons. I do want to get button boots in the future so I want to see if it will work on those but they work in the leather of suspenders so I don't see why they shouldn't work.

I used to have a suit/garment bag a while back and loved it. It certainly makes unpacking easier. My only question is: how do you take it on the airline? I'm a photographer and my main camera gear goes on as my one carry-on. So everything else gets checked. I would think your bag must be your carry-on.... If checked, wouldn't you want something more durable?

I used to travel 200 days every year…not since 2020…sigh. And your tips are excellent. Etihad Business Class gives the silk tray out on every flight. You can reuse for on road trips and when you don’t fly business. I have MOP collar stays which goes into a small bag with my cuff links when I travel. I have a set in 18k gold, but it’s too precious to travel with. I don’t travel with a suit bag, though I have a few. In leather it’s just too heavy. I prefer to fold the suits in the check-in luggage. And I use the regular wood shoe trees in the shoes. I normally shine my shoes before each trip, and if it gets dirty during the trip, I get a professional shoe shine.
@SARTORIALTALKS3 жыл бұрын
Thank you sir for taking the time to share your personal tips. We never flew Etihad, but good friends of us told us it was one of the most comfortable airlines (with a real first class with both a bed and a seat). We hope to experience it in the future. All the best, Hugo & Sonya

I use plastic shoetrees, but to deal with moisture and sweat, I use old newspapers and just stuff them inside for few hours and replace them with the shoetrees afterwards. And for collarstays, aside from the plastic ones that I will always end up losing them, I also use other various items that can fit into the slot, ranging from paperclips to toothpicks.

When I was a child we were all getting dressed for Easter church and found we didn't have a shoe horn. The emergency item for this instance is a tablespoon.

Do you check your suit bag with the rest of your luggage? The one you showed looks in great shape. I can't imagine it having been mistreated by any bag handlers...
@SARTORIALTALKS3 жыл бұрын
Dear Gustavo, I never check my suit bag in. Always carry-on. All the best, Hugo

Maybe not a question on topic but I'm asking anyway. Hugo, did you ever have Facial hair and when was the last time your hair was short? I love your current looks and greetings from Ireland
@SARTORIALTALKS3 жыл бұрын
Dear Fjodor, my facial hair grow very slowly (I only need to shave every 3 or 4 days), so I never had facial hair and the last time my hair was short was in the mid 1990s. Cheers, Hugo
