On the short/medium routes, SAS' "business class" - or rather, SAS Plus - has really started to suck, with little space sideways or leg room. As a tall person that is why I often upgrade, so now I have actively started avoiding SAS, even here from CPH, and seek out airlines that eg. keep the middle seat empty.

SAS membership in Star Alliance made less and less sense as the alliance expanded. It arguably has too many airlines in Europe, often competing for the same customers: Lufthansa Group (Lufthansa, Brussels, SWISS, Austrian), LOT, Croatia, TAP Portugal, Turkish Airlines plus SAS. SAS makes much more sense in SkyTeam which has weaker coverage in Europe, particularly in northern Europe.

Exactly, add to this the fact SAS was never a part of the *A trans atlantic JV. With AF KLM and ST I wouldn’t be surprised if they enter the JV between Virgin, Delta and AF KLM, with CPH being used kind of like AMS is currently, especially considering the limitations being placed on AMS. Overall I see with ST and AF KLM SAS now has an viable business model for themselves, where as within *A they were constrained by the heavy competition by the LH group, instead of co-operation.
