I don't think people understand just how painful it is to have a toxic family - whether it be due to physical abuse, emotional abuse, a lack of trust, the inability to feel safe, the way you change negatively due to the environment your family creates, or whatever the case - and being told that you must love them unconditionally, the people who hurt you, because you share the same blood as them.

Why does this song describe my life so much? I remember when my parents argue, and I literally run to the bathroom crying, putting my headphones on, and listen to music while they're arguing, wait till they stop... Try to calm myself down. Washing my face. Run to my room and sleep to get over it. Sadly I can't tell anyone, because well you see... I have no one to talk to. My parents, don't understand how much it damages me to hear them yell. Once my mom was yelling over the phone to my dad and that made me cry. When my dad yells, I cry. My sister, yells at me, gets mad at me. I cry because of that. So all I do, is talk to my dog, which is like my best friend.
@xemi20874 жыл бұрын
I can relate to that..My parents already are divorced since a couple years and my only friend who even knew how I was feeling ever since left me behind, I'm getting bullied, my mother keeps letting out her stress on me..I don't have anyone to talk to either. When you come from from a broken or toxic family, you really need friends you can count on. Not having any friends or just anyone to talk to in such a situation is extremely hard and just makes you feel worse, I know that.. If you want you can tell me here about it :)

It’s crazy how much we all can relate to each other. I remember blaring music in my bedroom while my mum screamed at my dad in the kitchen below. My half brother who is 8 years older would comfort me and I would comfort him. I remember asking him “Are mum and dad breaking up?” All he could do is hug me and say no matter what, we’ll always have each other. To this day, I remember the words exchanged with each other and that I’ll never forget that night.

Perfect for my solo thank you. We know life is hard-we may want new family and compare ourselves to others who have “better” parents but thats not right. We’re just kids at that time. But now we know to appreciate the family we have. And if someone is gone its better to let it go rather being stuck on it. Thats the basic meaning of the song.

What is so hard about listening to this song is how much I relate to it. My parents aren't divorced but.... Well they fight whenever they are in the same room, sure I love my dad and usually agree with him but my mom makes it my problem, she always says in detail about what happened, and tries to prove that she is right. Sometimes they fight over something as little as keeping the fridge door open, but most times they fight over me. I feel almost like a problem because I'm usually the topic of their fighting, like I'm not good enough for them. So then I work so hard I get anxiety, and I pressure and torture myself mentally till I drive myself to depression. Even now I cannot escape from their fighting, no matter how loud I turn up the music, however much I pray, or how much I hide in my room, outside, or at a friend's. I didn't say this to get attention, I just wanted to share. I swear I'll never be like my mom.

It hurts because its true- The older we get the more we realize why they always yell at each other. Like stress slowly building up making them lose control over their emotions but as kids when we get stress we just try to ignore it, fix it, or rebel a bit. but some adults can't because they have responsibilities providing for their family but.. that still doesn't change the fact that it hurts the children and their bottle up stress is slowly and painfully being transferred to the kids. I'm only 15 and don't know any better but... i still try to understand them the best i could because i never felt like their my heroes making me aware that they're just like me

Me: No. Please do not ever get any. But I'll tell you what. Whenever you see someone else with battle scars, I want you to go give them a hug, okay? Can you promise me? Little Girl: Yes, I promise. A few days later we went to a short shopping spree. Suddenly the little girl let go of my hand and ran up to another random teenager. Teen: Why are you hugging me? Little girl: Because... points you have battle scars just like my brother The teen looks up at me, and I roll up my sleeve to show her. With tears in her eyes, she says one thing to me... Teen: My war is far from being finished yet, but I'm not done with the fighting. She bends down at eye level at the little girl Teen: Thanks for giving me the strength to keep fighting. You are forever my war hero.

When she said "I used to close my eyes and pray for a whole nother family" I just burst out crying. My mum is always screaming and shes always (even if she doesn't mean to) making it sound like we're never good enough. Like the other day (I think I'm a little dyslexic or smthn cuz I have problems with numbers and I always get them muddled up) she asked for a number and I said for example 814 and then I went "Oh no, sorry, it's 418" and she just scoffed and went in a really harsh voice "Right come over here and get it right this time". My dad has a past of abusing me, too. Although he's much better now. And my brothers have been bullying me for 5 years. Just constantly telling me I'm not good enough and telling me I'm fat and ugly and discluding me from everything and making me feel very unwanted. So yeah I cried a lot when she said that lol.

@Tara Nguyen thats completely ignoring the problem???? whether they love u or not doesnt matter, what matters are their actions, and CLEARLY they arent showing they love them. if u think everything is okay cuz they love u then u are very likely to end up in an abusive relationship.

They didn't notice you were crying They didn't notice you were sad They didn't notice you were tired They didn't notice you were alone They didn't notice how attractive you were. They didn't notice how sweet you actually are They didn't notice how you actually try to make other people smile.
