Thank you for watching!
This is a quick video to show Sashiko supplies and Sashiko related products I just brought back from Japan. I also show some of vintage Ise-Katagami pattterns I had an opportunity to look at.
These are the shops I visited:
Hobbyra Hobbyre (website in Japanese) - sells supplies for Sashiko, embroidery and knitting. Products can be shipped overseas via Worldshopping.
www.hobbyra-ho...
Hida Sashiko (website in Japanese) - a small shop in Takayama (near Shirakawago). Hida-Takayama area is traditionally known for Sashiko. Does not ship overseas.
hida-sashiko.jp
Seria - A 100-yen shop chain. Sells a wide range of products including some craft supplies for 100 yen. Has many shops all over Japan.
Sarashi can be found at craft stores, pharmacies, hardwares stores, kitchenware shops, etc.
The book I showed in this video:
「秋田に伝わる祝いの針仕事 嫁入り道具の花ふきん」by 近藤陽絽子
(Akita ni tsutawaru iwai no harishigoto yomeiri dougu no hanahukin by Hiroko Kondo)
Publisher: 暮らしの手帖社(Kurashi no techo sha)
(all in Japanese, no instructions for specific patterns)

Thank you so much for sharing your purchases from your visit to Japan. I love those sashiko pieces from Hida Sashiko, and how amazing to find a piece of stitching in your fabric bundle!

Thank you so much😊❤️ Although the website of Hida Sashiko is in Japanese, you can still enjoy the photos of their shop and Sashiko pieces there. The link to their website is in the description of this video😊

This was wonderful thank you for sharing. I'm visiting Japan in the fall on a textile focused tour that includes workshops and I think one of them is Ise-Katagami.

That’s amazing!!😍 I was with my family while in Japan so I didn’t have time for something like that. I’m so jealous😆

Really fascinating to see the overlapping stitches and differences in threads. I’m looking forward to your upcoming videos based on your trip and all the wonderful things you brought back. Being able to handle those stencils must have been an amazing experience!

Thank you😊 I was talking about Sashiko with someone I’ve known for decades and they asked if I was interested in seeing the stencils! I was sooooo happy and it was truly an amazing experience😊

Thank you so much! They were truly beautiful. I was surprised how thin they were too. They were so precisely and intricately cut without damaging the paper. The patterns were all beautiful. I took many photos of them so I hope I can share more in the future videos❤️❤️

Such treasures and how nice you were able to visit family. I wish I could have been sitting next to you to feel and see everything with my own hands and eyes. I will be looking forward to seeing you use these and teach me more about Sashiko. Happy New Year my friend, you are a treasure in my life.

I bought a package of 10m sarashi for $30 US and I was happy to find it. How wonderful to buy it in Japan! It must have been a lovely trip.

That’s great! Sarashi is an inexpensive and practical material in Japan but it tends to be pricey and hard to obtain overseas☹️ I hope you enjoy stitching on Sarashi❤️😊❤️😊🪡🧵

@@thegreenwrapperI hope so too. I just finished two Daruma pre-marked kits so I'll be trying the sarashi next. I'm a little nervous about marking the patterns myself but I've got my frixxion pens ready and some metric rulers!

I love your videos, but couldn't you enable the subtitle option in other languages? I would be very grateful.😘😘😘😘

Thank you for your feedback❤️😊 I’ve been working on putting subtitles on and some of the videos now have them (the videos with ‘CC’). The process of putting subtitles on a video is very time consuming process which requires hours of work😅 I will work on it but it may take some time. I’m sorry for the inconvenience and thank you so much for your patience🙏🏻

I personally did not like the 100yen shop threads from Seria I found them not to sew well for me, I did like the multicoloured Hobbyr thread I had some of that they sewed really well. I did buy some preprinted swatches from Seria but I found some the pattern stitch length is very small but it was food practice.

I just tried a mini-Hanahukin from Seria. The stitch length was too short😅 I used some embroidery threads instead. I didn’t enjoy it much either…
