I like the way you refer to the currently milking cows as “ladies” and the heifers as “girls”. It shows respect for the product they are providing.

@@Spjkbz D S2 you're right! There is no point in showing these intelligent animals kindness and respect during their years of service prior to becoming a further part of the circle of life. I mean these cows should be penned up like chickens, he should beat them when they don't move and ensure they experience no quality of life at all. After all they're gonna end up being slaughtered anyways. Since your going to die eventually too, why don't you just live your life as drug riddled transient and make sure you don't enjoy any aspect of your life, including the internet. No point in showing you respect since your going to be dead within 100 years, so feck off you idealist vegetarian

@@Spjkbz nobody said anything about "idealizing" the cows. Showing a little kindness and consideration for another living thing, even if it is just a "cow"....never hurts and frankly, it's a credit to the kid...and his dad who raise him and taught him......that he does. Nice work SDK

Virginia Moss, this is to allow the cows to be less stressed for the two months before they have their calves. A lot of stress on a cow that close to having her calf can sometimes cause the cow to lose the calf also (which is a very sad day if it happens).

What a life-- no grass to walk on or graze, no hours of soaking in the sunshine, no just wandering arnd. Day on day end serve human needs & be moved around in closed barns on concrete floors. What these cows need & what they will get is totally human dependent

You are an excellent example of personal initiative and professionalism. Have you ever thought about having summer training for young people interested in farming? It would be great if you passed along your knowledge to people who have no idea what farming entails. You would be doing the next generation a great favor. Think about it. Summer Training Program via on the job training and some reading re vaccines, environment, etc.

Great video, as always. I really wish that you would do a video on open pasture farming vs. keeping the cows inside all the time. I notice that you and 10th Generation Dairyman keep your cows inside while Tom Pemberton Farm Life allow his cows access to the pasture. Is it just a question about not having enough land to allow your cows to graze or them being easier to manage? You and 10th Generation Dairyman are the first dairy farmers that I have become familiar with besides my uncle. He didn't have a large barn and only brought them inside for milking. I would really like to get your take on the topic.

It’s just a management preference mostly and wether or not you got adequate number of acres to graze. I milk cows in a stanchion barn and they go out to pasture when not getting milked and if it’s raining they come in really muddy so there are times when it pays to keep them in

I work on a dairy farm in New Brunswick and Its super cool to see the different routines, equipment on other dairy farms!! I love watching videos of other farms and seeing the difference between other farms! Dairy farming was my first job and I've been doing it for almost 3 years and absolutely love it! At the farm I work on we have a 32 stall rotary parlor and milk about 450 cows 3 times a day! Seeing your milking parlor and routine is awesome seeing the different equipment is amazing to watch. It's cool seeing how all dairy farms operate differently!🙂
