Jan I know dairy farming is a none stop job 365 but as retired dairyman I hope you take some time for your self as well as your sister's I know I did not do that myself and as I looked back it was a mistake on my part but my wife and I have survived and as we both look back we really wondered how we did it. You and your family seem to be a great and loving family and can only wish the best for you guys. Ps really love watching your video's

If you leave bales stacked like that you will have to tarp them. Otherwise they will freeze together like you mentioned, and they will absorb and hold a lot of moisture for a long time.

Thanks friend Jan, I am a fan of dairy farming. 1. I did not understand what dry cows are and what they are used for. 2. How do the cows get to the milking parlor without stimulation or reinforcement🤔what motivates them? Before I used to give them dry food one or two pounds during the process and that was the reinforcement 😁. Now I see that they come in and that's it🤔They leave happy...
@timothymbonham4453Ай бұрын
Having a full udder is quite stimulation enough to head into the milking parlor (like when you have a really full bladder). They soon learn how relieved they feel after milking and that's enough.
@thestonewind2308Ай бұрын
About "dry cows" - Dry cows are cows that are taking a "break" from being milked. In order to produce milk, a cow has to have a calf. A cow is usually bred shortly after she has a calf, then produces milk for several months, and then is "dried off" and becomes a dry cow for two months to give her a rest before her next calf is born.

a little engineerin, some fabracation, one of the p/u arms could have a added loop that would load a second row for every trip.. possibly
@timothymbonham4453Ай бұрын
Because it would be further out, the weight stress would probably require a heavier, stronger arm pickup arm. Thzt's possible, I guess. But you would have to load one every 3rd bale, so that they could move back when the bales underneath are moved. Might also need a stronger motor in the chain drive, and might cause more damage to the netwrap when moving a heavier stack. Also the bales would not be stacked across 2 lower bales (as Jan does it with the loader), so possibly more chance of falling off.

Hello there, Jan. I have been watching your videos for two or three years now (LOL - I can't quite believe it!) and even after all of this time I still find your vids entertaining and informative - love watching the change of seasons there where you are.. Having been around cows myself for a bit. . . I'm wondering if the strong smell bothers you at all when you are scraping the wet aisles with the tractor tire thing. Eh, probably not - I am sure you are used to it by now. But I'll bet a lot of your subscribers would be surprised at the strong smell! 🙂🙂🙂
@dralord1307Ай бұрын
My uncle and aunt owned a dairy. I would spend the summers with them. After about a week you get used to it. It ends up having more of a sweet smell than you would imagine. On my uncles farm at least his holding area "was outside" was the worst smelling part. Since it is where the urine stayed for the longest. Manure isnt that bad smelling compared to the urine.
@thestonewind2308Ай бұрын
@@dralord1307 I agree! After a short period of time, the manure smell isn't bad at all.

I honestly think if Brent is a good mechanic and welder you could get an extension built on the lifting arm of the bale wagon so it could stack the higher row without needing the wheel loader driving back and forth
@CraydenGamingOfficial22 күн бұрын
My opinion the bale moving setup is to small for there operation they should use maybe double set of 30ft wagons or more and load with loaders bring way more home at once have the one loader at field and get a big bale prong for case loader and unload two at yard
