Nigerians in Nigeria should also be considerate and give visitors something too, even if it's small. A lot of us pack suitcases of gifts to take to Nigeria and come back with not even biscuits.

I love this comment. Many don't think Nigerians abroad need anything because they can already afford it themselves BUT its the thoughtfulness that counts. Even rich people value GIFTS and don't want to feel used.

1996 when I visited Nigeria for the first after leaving 1987, I bought one of my aunt a bag and she told my cousin that I gave her a bag with no money and that’s the last time I bought her anything. Some of them are so greedy. I have a friend that that me she didn’t receive her pension money in Edo state, I decided to give her one hundred thousand Naira, a month later she’s asking for rent money and food money. Not knowing that in the States, if you don’t pay your rent , you will be evicted. This happened 2020, when things were ready bad for us here too.

And than when we are about to come they expect gifts?? No way We did that before and do you know what happened? Even he maybe haven’t had enough for us,we have bought fine gifts and shared them, every time we did that they thought we have a plenty of money and they were asking every single day for this and that. And they are many. And we we come for a visit, nobody offered you even sachet water. When they come to visit ,from the doors they ask what do we have to offer to eat? Isn’t that hypocrite? We always prepared the food and drinks, but not anymore. My husband told me I should stop doing that Becouse they already think that’s my obligation every time when we come to 9ja.. So if I send you the money during entire year,no more special gifts or anything. Nobody even gave us gifts for the wedding Becouse they consider we have. It’s not about having or not. When we go home, we have to give them money to buy us foodstuff but when they come here they will not even bring you anything or the cheapest adire or ankara. You have to send money for it. Your probably right about the title but I’ll tell you my long experience. My wife’s Nigerian and wanting to give her something in the beginning like flowers. Flowers! We like watches , phones, that kind of thing. I laughed so good. Her family is really good people , better than me spiritually. I did import a 2014 Toyota RAV4 3 years ago for her father. I would have bought new but taxes to import new very excessive. I put car in container and filled car with cases synthetic oil, filters and parts for years. My wife added many gifts too. Car was protected in container so not much worry. In the last 3 years have sent 3 iPhones. 1 iPhone 11, 2 iPhone 12 and some cheaper models I bought while in Nigeria. Other than that there’s a wedding on in a few weeks and not sure what gift is going. Maybe a million N and I hope they are not expecting more. Man I found out it cost a fortune to ship things to Nigeria, little things and not worth the expense to ship. Africa on the Bay in Tamps, Florida is a good man he helps get small carry items to Nigeria when he travels.

You have done a lot for the family. You are doing a wedding and that cost a lot of money. Wait a day before leaving Nigeria and give the family what you think that you can afford. Please discuss with your wife and make sure both of you are on the same page. You are now part of the family, it is not One Million naira or more that matters, it is what you can afford and you and your wife can still breathe. I wish you all the best and congratulations on the marriage.

@@michellebutler9897 There isn’t a minimum because some people would be grateful no matter the amount and other ungrateful no matter the amount. However, I personally would advise on buying gifts instead of giving cash in your case.
