Matco ended its relationship with Apex about two and a half years ago. The bulk of the tools were rebranded as Sata and introduced as an Amazon exclusive. Surprise!!

Appreciate your impressions on this one Doc. The end cap and easy accidental direction switching are dealbreakers for me. My favorite ratcheting stubby is the bahco 808050S. No bit storage though, but it's amazingly comfortable to hold and use. Also, not hearing you beg for likes, subs and to hit the bell, like almost every other youtuber does, and not having a 2 minute sponsor spot, is very refreshing and much appreciated. Actual content matters.

Bahco is $16 on German Amazon. I think the mechanism on that, the Stahlwille (I have that one) and some others are all the same.

I am a big fan of the Klein 32593 ratchet stubby. It's one of my go-to tools and I highly recommend it.

I’ve owned this SATA shorty for about a month now. For my needs around the house, it works well. I’m thinking of getting another one to put in my truck. Thank you for another great review.

This looks exactly like my teng stubby ratchet screwdriver . Probably the same factory makes em both. I quite like it actually lol
@leebrown66232 жыл бұрын
I was looking to pick up the bigger version of this screwdriver as a general household tool and that’s got decent reviews. Suppose both that and the stubby would make for a comprehensive set to have in the draw for not a lot of outlay 👍 great review as always

Interesting review. Next, please perform the exact same torque tolerance test with wiha & wera stubby screwdrivers to find out if those would stand their quality claims. Thanks

You should consider doing a cheap/budget tool kit for several applications; ie: overlanding, bike, ski, moto, sxs, truck, tractor, etc... (Just a thought)

I love mine. I ended up swapping out the bits for some t6, t8 and t10 torx bits as well as some hex bits. Wiha makes some great tiny dual ended bits and I worked the inside of the handle to get one to fit in the center hexagon, so I actually have 8 bit heads in mine. I have other great drivers like Wera’s full size ratcheting driver with their rapid bit holder. So to me, the stubby one is a great one to keep in my drawer for quick access, while the Wera is pulled out for more extensive work. Wonder what you guys think of modding the Sara to fit in an extra bit. :)

Harbor Freight’s Doyle brand has a very solid 6-1 ratcheting stubby that I’ve been a big fan of. Plus Doyle’s/HF’s Life time guarantee is as hassle free as it gets.

The SATA is good... the VESSEL ratcheting ball stubby is great !!!

I would really like to see more of that PB Swiss. You have the short version, there's also a long one. Specifically how much play there is and how well it holds bits as its only magnetic, no ball detent.

I use williams which is made by snap on. The cap is only hand tight from the previous use, but it has to be taken off with a pair of hogs every time.
@bilakos1987 Жыл бұрын
The cap with the magazine cannot be used as a spinner. The magazine is press-fit in the cap. A slight twist can remove the magazine. Without the magazine, you can store nine bits easily. If you remove a peg that is in the middle of the cap, you can store a dozen bits. Plus a bit in the driver socket, that's thirteen bits. Just excellent.

Same design as the Teng MDR908S, but oddly Teng doesn't seem to be an Apex brand. Handle shape looks perfect.

Not heard of SATA before but it’s on sale on Amazon UK with mostly good reviews. My favourite stubbies are the Wiha, though that’s non ratcheting, and the Snap-on, though I wish they’d do a shorter shank for it. (I’m not too worried about the lack of bit storage, this one is just great to use. I grab it first for those situations where you absolutely cannot afford to drop & lose the screw!)

When I had to claim something, Sata's warranty number got routed to someone who answered gearwrench. I suspect a similar experience going forward unless they start pushing some "tekton" tier similar to what dewalt does.

Got that stubby about 5 months ago, and its actually fairly decent!! 5.99 on sale..

I think the Snap-on stubby is the best except for the proprietary shanks

Forgot to also mention that the apex tool group led to the demise of Armstrong tools. A great old American industrial tool manufacturer that made quality products. The current state of affairs in domestic manufacturing is surely a sad situation.

I like the color and branding from a marketing perspective - and it seems decent for price point. However, I am WAY too far down the knowing tool brands rabbit hole to not go well there are these better alternatives (granted costing more). Also, I am sensitive to sourcing and try mighty hard to avoid goods from authoritarian nations with ongoing human rights abuses. Mexico, Taiwan, and Malaysia for cheaper tools - sure and twice on Sunday - but certain sources are a line I try to avoid crossing when possible.

Not to be a dick... But the reason junk Chinese tools exist is at least partially due to blame on simply people purchasing them. If nobody bought this crap, the market and therefore products wouldn't exist.
@ElectroG33k2 жыл бұрын
Not all there stuff is Chinese. Regardless even a lot of snap on and stuff are made in china too. You won't pay for the American made stuff
@user-cs1ne8gx9u2 жыл бұрын
@@ElectroG33k as a union Millwright I can assure you i don't buy junk tools. That's not to say they're all American made as there are plenty of quality tools made in Europe, parts of Asia that I have no issues owning or using. I have no doubt that the Chinese don't have the ability or means to produce a quality product and yet that's simply not the market that they as a whole chose to enter. Maybe someday that'll change once the Chinese themselves have a cheap foreign country to exploit for their labor and natural resources in the making of cheap bad quality consumer goods.
