We talked to director Scott Cummings about his film Realm of Satan, a documentary about satanists that’s like few docs you’ve ever seen before. Presenting gorgeously composed and shot images of its subjects day to day life. We spoke about the choice not to interview his subjects, 60 foot tall NSFW statues and how to work big set pieces in to a documentary.

For the same reason the Detroit Lions don’t actually believe they’re big cats. Satan is a metaphor, an archetype, a “mascot” if you’re inclined, that most accurately represents the beliefs, ethos, and aesthetics of the religion; Not a deity to be worshiped.

@@TripsX Satanism is a nontheistic, carnal religion, celebrating and championing man’s natural instincts and desires, encouraging worldly success, rational self interest, and healthy ego fulfillment, and using the personification of Satan as an appropriate metaphor to represent these values. What a Satanist "does" is up to the individual Satanist and how they apply the religion and its philosophy to their own life, desires, and goals.

Factually incorrect. Satanism was founded as a bonafide religion in 1966 and was codified in 1969 in The Satanic Bible as a specifically nontheistic and carnal religion, not a theistic or spiritual one. Satan is a metaphor, not a deity, Satanism is not devil worship.

They are very childish. They use terms like Satan even though they claim he is not even real! They do rituals when again they claim those are also not real lol. So they are basically a cult that does things and uses terms they claim are all not real. Insanity is what it is

Satan is the best mythological character to represent the principles and views of the religion, but Satanism is not a veneration of Christianity's bad guy. This is how Satanism has been defined since the day it was founded 58 years ago.

Modern Satanists want the opportunity to be heard and to be able to educate people on their faith without the intention of conversion, but while also avoiding subjection to ignorance and blind faith. They do not believe in Satan, nor do they participate in inhumane acts of any kind. They dedicate their lives to goodwill, kindness, the freedom and equal rights of all, and a better society. I implore anyone who has anything to say about it to do some unbaised research. So many followers of God want to be heard and bring people into their fold while claiming to be expressing their freedom of religion, but they don't want to treat Satanists with the same fair and equal treatment.
