If the criticism is about the hair, then fair enough. But realize that what we got to play is just a character demo that's in *Pre-Early Access*. I am an Indonesian and have never felt represented in the Sims. Now I am glad when InZOI has a world inspired by Indonesia. After watching the early access game by some KZbinrs, I haven't seen any Zoi who looks like Indonesian people but I don't complain. I am fine with the way it is now because they are still developing. If we want to talk about racially diverse enough, InZOI itself who is based in Korea, doesn't even capture all Asian features. Asia is more than just Korea but the majority of this diverse criticism clearly comes from western countries.

Stardew valley and animal crossing were lifesim adjacent, but really they exist in their own "cozy game" genre, which has plenty of options and alot of that community has previous experience with playing other games. I think we're all kinda biased towards stuff we've known for ages, especially if it's the first and only thing we've ever tried. And if we like it, we tend to see it as way better than any new competitors. I totally did this with some editing program, thought it was the best until I tried others and realized it wasn't so great. This also happens with lots of other things, even religion. The Sims 4 is a bit different though. It's actually worse than older Sims games in many ways, so people might be more open to InZoi. I can see why people criticize it for not being able to make diverse Zois because the presets don't communicate it that well. I mentioned before that you firstly need to choose the right Face Presets to create a certain Zoi (African, south Asian, Latin American, British, European, SEAsian etc). It gets tricky when certain features are exclusive to certain Face Presets. The Skin presets can only do so much after that. I'm sure they'll turn it into a pick-and-choose facial features on release or in post-release updates.

Right! That's the way it's done in 3D art. Start with a base character and tweak the details. If you start with a Nordic European base, you'll have a devil of a time converting that to Sub-Saharan African! Start with something close to the end result, then do some virtual "plastic surgery" till you get what you want!

Why do folk keep saying ethnic features were preset locked? All you needed to do was spend a few days to adjust, and you'd find how to manipulate properly. The presets simply made it quicker. eg a dot below the eyebrow was what manipulates the eyelids. Could change from mono to double by sliding it horizontally. Yet folk alleged this was impossible despite existing for every face preset.

You may still able to get double eyelid for East Asian presets but they are still "Asian" looking. I chose an East Asian preset that looks identical enough to Keanu Reeves' face structure but at the end, he still looked Japanese. They still need to make the facial features more customizable.

I also feel like it seems pretty difficult to make black body types who are on the rounder side because of the way fat sits on the body. Like, the fat slider looks like it was made by someone whos never been fat before lol. Speaking as a dev who has made a body slider in their game before. I promise it's a technical issue with weight sliders. Weight sliders are hard to do in a 3d paperdoll because with a larger body you need a different skeleton that controls the animation that is different from a skinnier character because the arms and shoulders need to accomodate for the large model so the arms don't clip into the sides. Also, with a larger body model the more likely you will get clipping on clothes as they need to stretch and combine with other clothes and it would take a lot of resources to debug and accommodate a body model so it looks good. It's not just with weight, it's the same reason why you don't see height sliders, or muscle slides often, it is a nightmare to make look good wit modular clothes and takes alot of time and resources

I am a black woman and InZoi is way more diverse than the Sims. When TS4 launched we only had 3 hairs and 2 skintone for black people. Did everybody forgot ? I’ve been playing The Sims since I was 10. It was literally the 1st game I ever played on PC and I haven’t stopped and I’m almost 30. It’s my comfort game. BUT overtime it has gotten stagnant and I thought the game after all these years would have progressed to what inZoi is presenting us now (graphics and some features wise). With that said, I think them wanting/using feedback to develop the game is a pro and con. Because it’s never ending, you can never satisfy peoples wants. I'm gonna be honest, my biggest concern to the development of Inzoi is actually the Sims community. Not the lifesim community, but the SIMS community. The Sims has fostered an extremely high expectation of diversity and is very social-justice charged community, sometimes to an unrealistic degree. It's also a very oversensitive community as a result. The fact there's already controversy with the weight sliders and the fact that Israeli-Palestinian politics got brought up at all (when let's be honest, 70% of those folks know nothing about that culture or conflict for real), tells me it's definitely gonna be the Sims community clashing heads with any new lifesims we get. What I am happy about though, is alot of the youtubers I've seen with the most gameplay coverage of Inzoi are completely new faces. And Inzoi has gotten the attention of other gamers outside of the Sims players as well.

Personally, I'd prefer to not be able to pick sexuality in create-a-zoi (or have an option to remove it). This is because, in Sims 2 as an example, I much prefer to let my sims' sexuality appear naturally through gameplay and it makes the game, as a whole, feel more free and open. It's not that broad a patent though. They're not limiting being able to customize character features in a 3D space, they're limiting being able to click directly on the model to manipulate it instead of pulling on a pin or something. The problem is, patents weren't designed with video games in mind. This kind of thing makes sense when we're talking about physical objects - you're essentially patenting a process. Historically this has still caused a bunch of problems, but you can at least see the logic behind it. Unfortunately, the gaming market has been very scummy since its inception. You'd be surprised what concepts, mechanics, and even words have been patented in games that have held back innovation over the decades.

A lot of people have been coming to these new developers acting like they're a Messiah that can do anything because they're each offering one thing Sims 4 currently isn't. But there are reasons that The Sims hasn't implemented these features yet and it's a lot to ask for any of the newcomers to miraculously solve those innovations all at once. People forget that certain gameplay features, like gardening in Sims 2, were mods first and then expansions and then base game standards in the following entries. Weight/muscle mass differences also went through similar limits followed by mods followed by base game implementation. Sims 3 and 4 saw the wave of height slider and disability mods that let current developers know what does and doesn't work, and some are trying to implement those concepts. It'll probably be another generation before we see those limits pushed and taken to their furthest extremes.

I will say, as a young trans person (relative to when I found out), I have created a trans-masc sim as his sex being female and body frame being masculine, but that is because of the limitations the Sims 4 has with shaping the body. My goal was to portray my character realistically to when he transitions-the male body frame did not seem accurate. But inZOI sliders are not the Sims 4 sliders, so maybe there is more wiggle room for accurate representation. And as you've said, cross dressing is possible so I don't know what else there is to trans inclusiveness unless we dive into pronouns, surgery scars, and reproduction. I don't know all of the mechanics of inZOI, so I don't know what's applicable. I would love to hear other trans persons thoughts, I don't know if this is just me.

It just looks less obvious on the Zoi because of the graphics style. The obesed Zois actually look way better than obesed Sims. If your Zoi is fat that affects their face, neck, arms, thighs, legs -- everything but with Sims though, it just doesn't look right. They don't look like fat people at all and look more like how an artist that only ever draws skinny people might draw them. The fat sims come off more as curvy/thick than someone who is actually overweight.

I really liked you talking about the fact the games, while in the same genre, do not overlap completely. I see so many people saying "INZOI IS GOING TO BE THE DEATH OF SIMS!!" but it won't. Artistically, there are plenty of people who don't want ultra realistic graphics and like the cartoony style of Sims. So this doesn't appeal to them. Many Simmers play on inexpensive hardware, which they could not do with InZoi (who had to send some content creators whole new gaming PCs in order to run the Early Access). So again, there's a subsection of players that won't overlap. I think we're going to see a big Venn diagram with some gamers playing all of new offerings, while other players won't. It's good to have more choice on the market, and to show what is possible within this genre, but I do not see this being a direct competition.

10 years have passed, Sims 4 has developed. Why can't Inzoi just use the sims 4 of 2024 as a base and add on to it? They don't need to develop blind, they know what players expect. Most of the issues are on Inzoi and them not knowing their audience or not using previous games' experiences.

They messed up things themselves in the Early access too. They spent extra time coding same-sex marriage OUT of the game. Can't have children outside of wedlock. Y'all, people are allowed to criticize one game regardless of other games' issues. I'm honestly baffled at how this makes sense in your minds. InZOI has serious issues, period. It's completely unrelated to The Sims. These two companies are as far apart as day and night. That's because Inzoi has built its marketing strategy on "we're better than the sims because we use UE5 and we have cars and pets!". They target sims players specifically by reaching out sims youtubers and instructing them to praise their game and oppose it to The Sims. That's why Inzoi isn't seen as an independent product with a personality, and tbh it doesn't have one. Sims players are just so used to EA's abuse that they are willing to praise any mediocrity

The thing about the trans options, as with most of the things that need improvement (I vehemently disagree that you can make "basically anybody" in inZOI, cause you can't), is that it's something that helps "visibility" for the trans community. It's something that, when included, helps show that it's more "normal" than not, even if only 1% of the player base actually uses it. It's a nice thing to have if you want to make an openly trans character. It also accounts for the people within the trans community that choose not to have specific surgeries out of preference or medical anxiety, because those people do exist. On the point of ethnic diversity, there's issues with things like hair options, where there really isn't enough options for people with curly/coily hair, which is a problem with the games industry as a whole, and not just an inZOI problem. It's immensely frustrating for black people who want to have their identity reflected in games, but they're limited to like, basic afro-textured fades, dreads, cornrows, and maybe one or 2 weaves, and afros. inZoi has a single coily hair option from what I recall, and it's not long. I understand WHY this happens (polygon budgets) but it's still frustrating as a person who has black characters, and I can't make them how I envision them because the hair options especially are too limited for non-straight hair options. The issue I have with the body sliders specifically is that it has that frumpy "we don't want to offend anyone by allowing objectification of women" in it's handling of female body sliders that has plagued character creation tools in games for the past 5-10 years. Why the hell can't I give my female Zois a nicer butt than "just above barely visible?" Why are the breasts basically no more than a little more than a handful? Why can't I properly balance out someone with a pear-shaped frame? It's extremely lacking. I don't really want morbidly obese characters, but it's hard to really deny that inZOI is lacking in flexibility, especially in the female body shapes. I should be able to make someone who looks like they had so much work done that they might as well be considered a living doll due to how "plastic" they are. Of course, I'm personally not asking for that much, but I want the ability to, at the very least, make conventionally attractive women, and I feel like I can't do that within the limitations of the body sliders. I'd also like to see inZOI have some kind of height slider, cause that would make it objectively better than the Sims, but I doubt that's in the cards due to how much extra work goes into animations for that.

I think one thing people need to take into consideration is that this is made by a South Korean company, and so societal and cultural standards are going to be placed onto the game because of that. The hair type thing might be something they can fix, but its fairly rare in South Korea and East Asia in general to have curly hair and/or to be okay with having it. Not saying its okay, that just tends to be how it is. Also, with the weight slider, I agree that its inclusive enough, but it looks a bit unnatural, but it is a video game and weight distributes differently on everyone. The body hair thing is another part that, if you look at the South Korean population, most of them aren't...hairy. Its also pretty common for both women and men to remove body hair, even some men shave under their arms or on their legs for hygiene or other reasons, so that might be why its not their for women. Finally, with the sexuality and gender identity options, they have to be careful once again because of South Korean society, but even some of their laws. Gay marriage is illegal there, but they are making it legal in the game, which is good, and they are much more conservative with sexuality and gender identity and it can be a touchy area when releasing stuff into the media. They're better than they used to be there, but its still pretty restrictive. I don't necessarily agree with how they handle certain diversity-type issues over there, but I do think people need to take the country of origin into consideration, even if they have to do a bit of research.

Trans girl here. When I make a transfemme Sim, I do just use the feminine frame. However, I do go into the settings and click that my character can't get pregnant but that she can get someone pregnant. (Obviously, irl, that's more complicated and depends on her cocktail of meds, but it is a fact that I *could* have knocked a cis woman or trans man up way back when.) So if there is going to be a generations/childbearing feature in Inzoi, then having that setting *would be* appreciated. But this isn't Cyberpunk 2077. I'm not going to be choosing my character's junk. And I'm unlikely to make a zoi that'll trigger my dysphoria if I try to imagine myself as it, so yeah, I'd just use a feminine frame. The problem is, I am a *binary* trans woman. I don't ID as any kind of Enby. And so it is possible that *they* would want more frame customization. I don't know for sure, I'm just saying who I can't speak as.

The character creator reminds me of when I used to do 3d artwork in Poser! I used to make character portraits for the members of my gaming group as well. You could sculpt literally any kind of face or body you wanted if you knew how. I'm sure Inzoi isn't gonna give us ALL the fancy toys up front… there'll probably be some add-ons in the future!

13:06 I'm gonna be honest here.... I'm hoping EA doesn't get their *%^$ together. I love the sims, but I want other life sim devs to succeed. I don't think EA deserves to continue getting peoples money. Sims 5 might be great, but if sims 5 sales beat out inZoi and inZoi suffocates because of it, EA will go right back to business as usual, scamming customers and selling broken product, and skipping all the way to the bank.

Oof, I don't want to believe it, But it's always possible. But at the same time. I don't think anyone is really complaining about the lottle things like sliders and concerning the game. It's probably just people asking idle comments, and because it's negative it stands out to the rest of us. I haven't seen anyone get angry at Inzoi, they're either interested or meh. Most of the initial excitement has died down, but also I suspect simmers are so used to being let down most are trying not to get too excited.

The patent for the pull points in CAS is a US patent, South Korea doesn't have to ask the US permission to make a similar way of shaping zois, they're not based in the US, just like if China or Russia, or another country want to develop their own antigravity spy craft that uses mass reduction technology like the Navy's revolutionary spy plane, they are free to do so, cause it's a US patent on the technology, not a global patent.

Trans man here, with a trans wife. I use the trans options in Sims 4, mainly since me and my wife have a kid together, and when playing Sims, I wanted my sim to be the pregnant one. And the pronouns are also part of the "trans options", so for NB folk, I'm sure they use that.

The conversation around AI in the game is what bothers me more than anything else, I don't think anyone knows what they're talking about and just jump on the bandwagon for moral points, especially content creators. People protesting it, I give them about a few weeks before they hop on the game.

tbf we dunno anything about their AI. Where is its inventory/gallery being sourced from? Is it the internet, Royalty free stock, limited to all of Krafton's user uploads? Is it a temp model in the demo/playtests, or is this all it'll be? Folk have good reason to distrust it, as many AI art is a blend of others' work. And the AI used for coding, is it an actual program or simply the equivalent of a coder's spellchecker? Many businesses allege to use AI when it's far from it. If it's really just a human doing it, then imo I find no issue with it, but it's concerning if it effectively replaces humans. Like, I love remembering how the Amazon store AI monitoring legit being a mere group of Indians watching the cameras (not that they admitted it) 🤓

Honestly, if you're bigger than the biggest weight available in inZOI, maybe sitting around all day playing games isn't the best thing for you. As for how the fat doesn't sit well, a lot of that is because of how these kinds of models work. You have to remember that animations and such all play off of the same skeleton, but if you made a character morbidly obese, it wouldn't work properly with animations, causing weird clipping. You can see even with the fat level they have now, the arms begin to clip into the body. They could hypothetically make them far fatter, but it'll look bad due to clipping, unnatural animations and stretched clothing and skin textures.

I love that inzoi is giving so much variety specifically in clothing. I try to create myself in Sims but it's so hard for me because I like to wear more modest clothes and I love to wear skirts and dresses. I never create my sim in a skirt because the skirts are either too short for my taste or it looks hideous. Same goes for tops. The cute ones are mostly cropped and the more modest ones look like potato bags. People dress modestly for different reasons. It could be a part of their culture or religion and I think EA did a poor job giving these people variety in their way of dressing

I'm transmasc and I'd like if I could make characters that are men but can become pregnant. I'd also be over the moon for the ability to have top surgery scars on them. Also, I think the issue with the fat level is that the fat is not actually sitting how fat does (you did sort of touch on that). It's a flat stomach but sticking out, which isn't how fat works usually. Makes it seem like they don't actually have much fat on them. You don't have to be morbidly obese to have fat folds. I definitely forgive that sort of shortcut in older games, but seems like they have the ability to go very realistic so it shouldn't be out of the question to do a proper saggy stomach. It doesn't have to be extreme, I understand they need the clothes to fit all characters, but they could definitely do better. Worth noting that I am at a healthy weight but still have a belly that overhangs my belt. There's nothing wrong with depicting that, it's not an inherently unhealthy body shape.

I also have HEAVILY used the trans options in the sims. Might be a generational thing or cultural thing, but in my circles we love to play with gender options etc. rather than being super binary and cis idealizing etc.

Did anyone get to try the gameplay? Sims 4 before relase also let us make sims: "Oh, make your sim!" but offered no in-game experience. The gameplay is what's the most important in a sim game. I don't care how gorgeous I can make my sim (okay, maybe I care a little). I want to have goofiness or seriousness. I want to have tons of things to do & I want to do them in my own way, not with a prescribed list.

Unless you can literally look like Eugenia Cooney, I don't think it's "fatphobic" to not be able to make a character be 400+ pounds. Those are pretty extreme weight classes. I don't think it'd be easy to create either, as fat distributes very differently from body to body, so no matter what they'd do there, it wouldn't be representative. Also, that level of obesity is rare outside of the US and maybe the UK? And Inzoi is not an American game, it seems entitled to expect a Korean game to adapt to US averages of bodytypes.

Nah, they have the advantage of being a foreign company. Their local investors will have more say because they don't already have a dedicated playerbase like TheSims does - they have to prove the $$$$ was worth the investment, and creating a game with excuses will sooner bankrupt them.
