Back in the eighties I used to make pottery in a club in Hungary ran by an archaeologist. The creative environment and collective spirit paired with individual artistic manifestation was everything one wanted. It was so enriching. Now living in Canada seeing people drinking cafe from disposable paper cups is something I still have to reconcile with. People earn more money and yet they are bankrupt in more than one way. Most people in Canada cannot afford taking pottery and taking time off from their busy life. Often people are spending hours commuting and serving their masters. What a wonderful world!

Cheers from Hungary!
@daveowens5 жыл бұрын
That doesn't mean we should though. :D
@Guedjouma5 жыл бұрын
@@daveowens Of course not. It was more of a way to say that in a money driven world we lost the sense of nowness. It does not have to be pottery. It could be anything. Most people work too hard just to get ahead. How many can afford to get lost in their own creative world and not worry about paynig bills and get their kids through university. Freedom from self imposed slavery.
@cliffdariff745 жыл бұрын
What should people in Canada be doing instead of working,,?
@Guedjouma5 жыл бұрын
@@cliffdariff74 Exactly! That's what I am talking about. Just work at 2 or 3 jobs commute 2-3 hours on a daily base, drink some beer or Timmies and watch some hockey. Seems perfect for most in Canada where the majority cannot even speak the two official languages. Sense of freedom, art. culture.literature, meaningful travel and understanding man's devine nature are sure not for everybody.

If only most movies were shot so carefully, richly, and tastefully as this video. The light, airy feel and nude toned composition of the making of the mug, then the dark, heavy, shadows and heavy sparks of red flame, the cobalt of the oven, the earthy browns of the paint, the porcelain delicateness of the glaze captured in how fragile the piece seems with its bone white complexion.... if only.

Perfect little film on throwing. All the elements were in sync. Composition and sound and rhythm. Art is philosophy made tangible, and this succeeded admirably. Will add this to my students must watch list. My wheel and Kiln are at school and the plague has removed that joy from me for now. But I am building a new studio so by fall they should be home with me. There is joy in building a studio as well, but not the easy peace of throwing.
