Thanks, this helped a lot after spending hours trying to get 3 stops on a line to to work. It seems you have to enter the platform in the direction of it's arrow, to be able to stop there. You also only need the amount of blank or freight platforms up to the number of carriages you want to load / unload behind the engine.

I think it's better to use the looped system but with one main track. The train will go into the station, then turn, and go into the same track it came from. Tried it. No problem!

That’s what I did too. Had some issues trying to setup one main line going back and forth using the “terminal” style with multiple stops in between. I think you need 2 train stations at each stop, one in each direction to add to the timetable?
@Earlchaos
@Earlchaos 5 жыл бұрын
The leaving station name doesn't matter. So Station (A---B)----------------------------tracks------------------------------(C---D) second station. You only need to set up station A and D in timetable.

Perhaps you should also have mentioned that a platform can only load or unload a trailer. You can't unload the trailer and then load it with other stuff. Therefor you need a station behind the first one to load the trailer. A little bit unfortunate in my opinion, but you can deal with it. I've learned, that short distances aren't good for trains as they will start breaking very early to be able to stop at the station. So belts and trucks are on short distances faster.

@@TotalXclipse For a bit of a real-world check, one of the more powerful locos used to haul coal trains in AU is just 3 MW power output, and they generally use 6-8 of these for a mile long heavy freight train. Japanese Shinkansen is about 12 MW for a 16-car set that can go up to 300 km/h. Just saying...

You could mention that you should generally avoid building steep tracks. Upon reloading, your trains get stuck uphill and require manual driving in order to fix this. I generally had good experience with NEVER mixing items. Every item has one designated spot on the train to load (one node per freight car) and to unload. Mixing items easily messes up any machine setup. 50 refineries loaded with copper are messy and annoying to fix.

Sometimes you say things that are not true. Trains can't bump into each other, for example. They just pass through each other cleanly. What may happen is that one train operates the switch while other train is on it, and that can disconnect the train. Which leads to some really funny behavior. Another thing is that there's no required correlation between train and station length. The locomotive will just stop at the station. If any freight cars stop at their cargo stops, they get loaded or unloaded, the rest remains untouched and/or remaining cargo stops just do nothing. Personally I hope devs will get rid of the switches - the trains can just select their direction when they arrive at the fork (and continue through as a whole) independent on presence of other trains, and when driven by the player, it can be highlighted on the rail and selected with A/D keys.
@TotalXclipse
@TotalXclipse 5 жыл бұрын
I didn't mean literally bump into each other... more they go through each other which was what I thought caused them to split, this is actually a bug due to them going through each other on a switch when they're heading to different locations. As for the station length, that's a fair point, I believed this was an issue at first as my trains weren't working and after speaking on the question help line they suggested extending the platform to have the same number carriages. It worked after that but then again If you've got trains working on less platforms, then I'm mistaken. Perhaps mine was just buggy in experimental? I was thinking about switches, and I believe they will have a use. but only if trains cannot automatically switch them back, If I could set a switch I could then use segments as a passing space between two different trains. Other than that they have no use to me. But thank you for the information, and I'm sorry mine's not 100% accurate I do try keep it as accurate as possible, but I can get things wrong :)

I have a loop based main-line with 14x 2-6-0 trains plus a few 1-1-0, and yes, I have seen some weird stuff (usually because 2 trains went througha point at the same time) . Hoping they put block based control to avoid those kind of things, and avoid cilipping between each other. Also Smart Splitter based unloading would be a fantastically bad idea, because if one ressource overflow, you risk locking out your entire logistic system. Until we have factorio-like circuits control, I don't see a proper way fo handling that.
@TotalXclipse
@TotalXclipse 5 жыл бұрын
A block based control system would be great in general around the whole game, I'm dying for it to be implemented for control groups of constructors or manufacturers and most defiitely it would be awesome. In regards to a smart system, they definitely need to patch smart and programable splitters, but I've personally not had any issue with them because I turn the factories on and off as and when required, so rarely have any bottleneck issues where it's important, that being said, the other option would just be to have freights specifically for one type of item. This would resolve any smart splitter option but mean you either need to use more stations, or have longer trains

@@TotalXclipse so far every attempt I've made at making a two headed train stopping at 3 stations on a single line has failed, or resulted in the train going the wrong direction into one or more of the stations, so I'm really looking forward to seeing you solve this problem. I've also noticed that even in the last patch on stable if you have 2 trains on the same track with 3 or more stations they will eventually break when they hit a switch at the same time causing the time table to stop.

Katarina Connor the timetable is for the whole train, so you only need to do it once, I think time table sounds a bit more daunting than it actually is, you just need to set the order of stations it goes to, once set it will repeat the time table

Rik tec hey! Thanks for checking out my videos! you’ll need a station pointing away from the direction you’re heading at one end and at the other end facing the opposite station. So it’ll face kinda this way if you wanted a station in between the two points you’ll need Two stations facing opposite directions in the middle then like this They may have changed it since this video though so if it doesn’t work it could be due to an update. Why use trains and not belts?
@TotalXclipse
@TotalXclipse 4 жыл бұрын
There are a fair few reasons why trains can be ideal over belts. providing it's travelling over 300m the throughput is higher via trains, meaning that you can transport items quicker, also the price to construct a train system in terms of resources can be a lot cheaper if it's a fairly long distance and also for longer distances it's also much less time consuming to set up. Not to mention transport power through the rails between stations can save you having to build loads of power lines, or worse another powerstation :) but it does really depend on what you're using it for.
