Lin Manuel Miranda explained that with this song he wanted to showcase the speed at which Angelica's brain works. That's why the music gives a sense of a slower pace compared to the singing - because her brain is literally constantly dialed up, same as Alexanders'. If you see the live, this is emphasized by everyone moving really slowly around her. Love your reaction videos!
@JacobRestituto4 жыл бұрын

if you look at it that way, you can also hear that when she first talks with Alexander the music sounds faster than the singing, which is because how she says before she was so blown away by him, that she even forgot her own name. and that, my friends, is how you let music tell a story.

@papayapapaya40242 жыл бұрын
in addition to this, when Angelica interacts with other people it's like she slows down to their pace (when she slows her mind down to talk with Eliza then everyone else around her seems to be moving in normal speed and when she moves in slow motion to dance with Washington) but when she first talks to Alexander, she doesn't need to slow down to be able to communicate with him. His mind is moving just as fast as hers and he's able to meet her at her level.

I don't know if someone else has mentioned this but one of my favourite things in Hamilton is how Lin reuses the same melody for each character... To make it easier to understand; Angelica is the oldest Schuyler sister and as the oldest her job is to marry a rich man (because her father doesn’t have any sons, and thats pretty much all a woman could do back then). So at a party (this party takes place during A Winter’s Ball/Helpless), Angelica spots Hamilton first and really likes him. However, she knows she couldn’t marry him because he’s broke so she introduces him to her younger sister Eliza instead. Eliza and Hamilton get married, and Angelica sorta realizes that Hamilton is the one who got away. However she would never say that because she values Eliza’s feelings over her own. Essentially in this song Angelica is doing her maid of honor speech at their wedding but in her mind she’s replaying the night she let Hamilton slip through her fingers. Hope that helped :)

I’ve been watching these lately and I just wanted to say “ hi!” but mostly I like your channel. And thank you for reviewing Hamilton. Question. Are you watching it while you’re sitting there? Rewind. Yes. That’s what they’re saying. You have to see Hamilton. You have to.😊

I love how you education when you use musical terms. You don't assume that everyone knows all the jargon. You are right her voice is just that great. Back in memory. A very good guess, You are right! He had to use 20,500 words to tell the whole story! That is so over the top on the word. If Hamilton was done at the same rate as most musicals it would be about a 12 hour musical.

At the end of this you should totally give us a Top 10!! First, it'll be funny to watch you struggle to pick a Top 10. But second, you are providing such a unique musical perceptive, id love to hear why your Top 10 are so.

Yeah. The story they're telling is that originally Angelica was deeply attracted to him because he's not only good looking but is as fiercely intelligent as she is, but then she realized that 1) she's supposed to marry rich and he's poor and 2) her sister Eliza has fallen in love with him. Eliza could marry him because she's the younger sister and thus doesn't have to marry into money like Angelica, so Angelica gives Alexander to Eliza, even though it breaks her heart. The girl's nothing if not pragmatic.
