My favorite thing ever is watching friends enjoy the stuff I like, which also has the unfortunate side effect of them driving me insane if they don't pay attention or dismiss said stuff without giving it a chance. Fortunately, I've NEVER had that happen with Hamilton, and I've almost never seen any online reactions (aside from one that got ratio'd into oblivion) displaying any dismissive negativity.

Ahh yes, my favorite cast/ensemble song. The storytelling, the motifs, all leading to that last section when each character sings their theme... Eliza: Helpless! That would be enough... Angelica: He will never be satisfied! Burr: Wait for it! Why do you write like you're running out of time... Washington: History has its eyes on you! To that last moment where they sing all together: HISTORY HAS ITS EYES ON YOU!!!! Gives me chills every time!!! And of course, Hamilton: I am Alexander Hamilton, I am not throwing away my shot! *chef's kiss* Perfection

The first act doesn't end on Yorktown because Hamilton is the story of Alexander Hamilton, not the story of the founding of America :) So they're establishing the next phase of his life with Dear Theodosia and Non stop.

I loved the idea I heard some time ago: Eliza is the only one who is singing not rapping during the whole musical. It´s because she had the most time from all of the characters. She was the only one who didn´t have to rap (speak quickly to say everything she wants to say), but had time to sing it instead.

There's an interesting...gimmick, for lack of a better word that Miranda uses in this that you may or may have not noticed by now: Regardless of the song, regardless of whether or not it fits with the rest of it, Hamilton always introduces himself by singing his name in the exact same way that he sang it in the line "My name is Alexander Hamilton" in the opening song. It was a way of showing that he was always true to himself regardless of whether that served his interests or the interests of his nearest and dearest (and often to his and their detriment, as you'll see).

You asked about the panning of the characters’ singing. I am not sure about whether they are in one ear or the other but what I can say is this. During “Helpless” when Angelica and Alexander are talking, their sound is in one ear. During “Satisfied”, the song immediately following, their talking is in the other ear. The reason for this is that each song is from one sister’s point of view. So they have used that technique to demonstrate that, even if it’s subtle. That is an abridged version of what Alex Lacamoire has said.

This song represent everything I love about this musical. Just like this song, there's so much throwed at you in such a small amount of time that every time you listen/watch Hamilton you find something you never knew or notice before. It could be a unnoticed musical effect, a callback to a other song, a foreshadowing or something as simple as realizing what the dance moves represent.

I know I’m really late but one of my favorite things about this song is that at the end Hamilton is singing “I’m not throwing away my shot” and the ensemble is echoing “Just you wait” as if foreshadowing that Hamilton is going to end up throwing away his shot later. It kind of echos this theme throughout the musical that the ensemble knows the story and are forced to play along and they are sitting here staring at Hamilton as if to say you will, just you wait, you will throw away the shot
