This is from the original broadway cast recording, not the live performance. Watching the performance is key, there is so much going on, they recreate the same choreography but from the perspective of Angelica. There are videos online that compare both side by side, you should find one to get the full impact. It's amazing to see live because you can see the full stage, but the Disney + version is awesome because you can see the actors up close, the subtle expressions that you couldn't possible see from the back of a theatre, and you can replay multiple times and focus in on different people. Yeah, I'm addicted :)
@shiftfocus13 жыл бұрын
I’m addicted too. And as good as this one sounds, you don’t fully appreciate it without seeing the choreography and the lighting. It’s simply a brilliant piece of work.

This is much clearer in the actual show, both Helpless and Satisfies are the same scene from each perspective. Basically Angelica likes Hamilton but so does Eliza and Angelica realizes that Eliza is a better match
@pamgonzalez65343 жыл бұрын
But is she really.....
@earthbenderjfjdj43352 жыл бұрын
It's so interesting because they are a "match" economically and socially since Eliza's the younger sister and she doesn't have to social climb like Angelica but it also sucks so much because Angelica was just such an extraordinary match to him too. Opposites in relationships are good for the balance but it would've been interesting to see how their relationship would play out if Angelica didn't give him up (musical-wise. i'm aware that she was already married before meeting him) and these two people who seem to be match made in heaven because of their similarities, ended up together. It's never the woman's fault too but I'm curious if Hamilton would've cheated if he was with Angelica instead or would he have done it anyway.
@Dan-gi6tf2 жыл бұрын
It's so frustrating, I watched his entire reaction leading to these 2 songs with anticipation and I'm so unsatisfied with the video. He could've just used the stage version but with lyrics on screen and stars falling down lol
@acousticks5262 жыл бұрын
She loves her sister more than Hamilton, so she introduced Hamilton to Eliza and stood aside, not because Eliza was a better match, in the show Angelica would've been the better match for Hamilton cause she can match his wits and can keep up with him, and maybe possibly actually persuaded him into taking a break, cause if he didn't he would have to face her wrath 💀
@mrsedgehead3 жыл бұрын
The live Broadway version is the best for this song if only to understand the tiny nuances that are implied in the song. But basically Angelica falls for Alexander but because she's the oldest sister she has obligations to marry someone way way way above Alex's pay grade, so she sacrifices her own feelings and let's Eliza, who was all doki doki at first sight, have him and relishes in the fact that at least he's in her life in some shape or form. However in actual history Angelica was married by the time she and Alex met. Though if you check out any info on the Schuylers or read the Hamilton book that Lin based the musical on; historians and scholars believe that they had sort of a flirty crush type of relationship going on and Eliza knew all about it from what I've seen. Lin just exaggerated it for messy content sake. He did not disappoint I tell you what 👏🏾 and yes it does only get messier from here you were correct 😂🤣 Also what they also don't say is that yes Angelica is the older sister but they also had older brothers.. 6 of them.

She wants Alexander, but she can't have him because she has to marry up (being the eldest), and marrying Alexander would be marrying far down because at this point he's a broke soldier with neither high status or a lot of money...or any money for that matter. That and she sees that Eliza was falling for him, and she loves her sister too much to take him when Eliza wants him. Now, historically, it wasn't exactly the case. Angelica was already married to her rich man at the time that Alexander and Eliza met, so she never had the choice of marrying him or not. However, they were attracted to each other, but never did anything about it. They were actually perfect for each other, as they were both extremely intelligent and outspoken, and shared many strong opinions about the direction the country should go.

There's a joke in the line "I forgot my dang name" - Angelica was already married to John, making her Angelica Schuyler Church when they met. Edited: She was Angelica Carter - John was dodging some debts back in England so he was using a different name in America at that time. Once his fortunes tebersed he paided up, went back to his teal name, and returned to London with Angelica and the kids. (She and Church eloped, meaning he was probably a LOT of fun -- looking at you Non-Stop.)

I dont know if anyone has said it yet, im sure they have but i dont wanna read through all the comments, BUT... This is artistic liberty. Angelica was already married when Hamilton met Eliza. The show is pretty historically accurate, but there are some liberties taken to make it more interesting, and this song hands down always catches attention. lol.

The musical makes it as if Angelica is still unmarried when she meets Hamilton. She actually had been married for, I think, five years. So she couldn't have married him. But she definitely had feelinngs for him and him for her. But he also truly loved his wife, who was less social and outgoing and much more dependable and family-oriented.
