You right, but you can give the horse msm and the hoof problems disappear in 4 months time. On the long time it save the horse owner a lot of money because the glue is expensive! Just a tip from a farrier who is working for more than 20 years in the Netherlands.

I also own an Ex racer and I had shoes on her for a while. She lost them every 4-5 weeks and soon the farrier had almost no hof left to nail a shoe to. I made the decision there to remove it and leave her barefoot. I managed her carefully and now, 1,5 years later she has the best hoof quality ever. She still has that thoroughbred flat feet thing going on but I wont be chaning that. She is already 11 now and I fear that by changing the angles too much, she will get arthritis.

Interesting case.... Yes its surprising how well TB can do when they are successfully transitioned to barefoot. I believs that TB are the horse's that show the greatest improvement when done correctly.... If your horse is managing fine without then I wouldn't change a thing. Often this package is applied because of an issue, whether that's hoof wear, pathologies or injury. Ideally I would use this product up until the point we have enough strong hoof to manage without

My QH mare had bad feet. We got her barefoot for a while and an expert recomended for corrective shoeing to stop the small amount of navicular she had. We shoed for about a year and just stopped because she starting pulling her shoe off within a week. That meant I couldn't ride her for a few days to let her get used to the unevenness. Never went lame. Mist recen time she went lame was just fir a day or two because she broke into the chopped alfalfa and gorged herself. Darn mare didn't show she hurt untill 15 minutes in and she limped at the trot that SHE picked up. I am SUPER sensitive to my horse's comfort. She showed nothing. A good farrier and time do absolute wonders.

What an interesting concept, I can see how this could be very beneficial in dealing with problem feet. Do you get many calls to treat miniature horses and/or draft horses? Miniatures do have a tendency to founder if their diet is not carefully controlled--those little devils can stay fat on thin air, LOL. A breeder I was friends with had a fabulous broodmare that had a tendency to founder and finally rotated--they pulled her through once but it was dicey for awhile. It would seem that something like this could help support the hoof and help keep the pain levels down so the horse can move as normally as possible while healing. I was also curious about draft horses, it would seem that they would track to the inside since some of the breeds are bred to have foot placement closer together. Have you successfully treated many draft horses? Thank you for sharing--oh, and blue for this horse, definitely! LOL.

Wow! You need to come on over to the United States & work some of your magic! I love how you watch the horse move after you've applied the formahoof. I've asked my blacksmith(s) to watch my horse move before and after so they could assess and and address any issues. They would look at me like I had just asked them to strip naked and run down Main St singing 'I'm So Pretty!'. It's like there is a total disconnect between knowing how to trim/shoe a horse and knowing how they should move. I had a TB gelding who had the same issues. I would have loved to have this tech and your know-how & can-do attitude. The way the horse responds to you is also nice. Some of the farriers I've had could get kind of rough. Then my horse would object, the farrier would respond and round and round we'd go. Really lovely! Absolutely marvelous! Keep up the good work!

nice to see another alternative to shoes because I'm aware there are places and reasons people use shoes especially on certain breeds of horses but I think this is so much better especially for the horse although it's a lengthy and awkward process. One thing of note is how the assistant held the horses leg, I've been told by my own farrier that you want to hold the leg and not the joint around the hoof as this causes stress in the muscles that bend there if you allow it to just dangle on it's own weight that's better for the horse.

@AlexRidgewayFarrier
@AlexRidgewayFarrier 4 жыл бұрын
It's a result of many difficult factors but often because of conformation which is linked to breed type. The environment and routine training schedule along with repeated shoeing that leads to the low heel syndrome
@comesahorseman
@comesahorseman 4 жыл бұрын
Many trainers believe in low heel/longer toe, thinking it creates more leverage at breakover. They may also leave the heels of the shoe deliberately shorter to prevent grabbing the shoe with an overreach. End result is an under supported and underslung heel that literally hangs over the end of the shoe, and you often see corns as a sequel. The ends of the shoe should extend *slightly* beyond the heel.

@LADHP
@LADHP 4 жыл бұрын
@@taniareid-gillis8317 I think your farrier is right. Frogs naturally peel on their own, and then grow back! You dont want a hard frog, it should be more of a 50/50 moisture content. The frog allows compression and protects the internal leg bones. If the frog gets hard, stop using the hoof polish, and allow the frog to return to normal 50/50 state and allow it to peel and grow naturally.
@taniareid-gillis8317
@taniareid-gillis8317 4 жыл бұрын
@@LADHP good to know. I've moved to a different part of the country and previously the frog was always hard. I guess environment has to do with that...??? We get a lot of moisture here. Its even really hard to get dry hay here. The moisture content is about 65% so we lose a lot of hay to mold. Hard place to have horses.

That's a very interesting new? development in Hoofcare! I have never heard of something like this before.My New Forest Pony does have too long ligaments in his right knee, so his toes more often than not drag over the ground. Which is not a problem in the summer...with them having access to their paddock nearly 24/7 ... but in the winter month the abrasion is quite much. Thankfully the white line is not affected, but I am concerned because of the friction. Is there a way to protect especially the toe with Formahoof?

How long does it take for the horse to get through that sore part, that stadium the muscles and bones get used to the different way of standing? Because it is a correcting tool, just like a human would get when they get souls (sorry if I use the wrong words, English-language isn't my first language and writing is pretty intense lol) in their shoes, like pediatric(??) Inlays? And do you have to do exercises with them? I should guess they get pretty stiff or sore in the beginning especially? If so, what kind should I think about, because I can imagine that the foot is beeing corrected, and hopefully forever so that is why I wonder how to go about it at all? Giving somebody a new dental tooth correcting tool, they go home too with the necessary instructions and some even, if serious enough of a correction, with a whole plan for the future so it does change and stays that way long after the correcting.. I can't imagine by slapping this on and maybe repeating it once or twice, and poof.. problem solved? This is just the look and questions of somebody who's stumbled upon this solution so I have absolutely no clue about the go about it at all after the application of the Resin shoewear.. And for a better distribution of the glitter I should use 2 or 3 tubes, I found this not quite as pretty or nicely as I imagined that it would be? The glitter doesn't cost much, the materials aren't the costs since it is resin but the customer does pay enough to be fair, then the end result also may look like it has been worth although I absolutely realize that the first and foremost is that the treatment works of course 👌 But adding in some visual pleasure to the eyes, I just can't let it go and mention it.. sorry 😊

More glitter next time for sure! 🤣🤣🙈. The effects of changing a shoeing package on the muscles and movement of a horse usually take 48-72 hours to normalise. However alot of the time when applying due to hoof related issues or lameness, immediate soundness can often be achieved with this package. For older horses we are not changing any boney structures ie conformation, we are far to late down the line for that, however what we can do it compensate for that conformation and help to prevent or aid the consequences. Hope that helps. A

Do either of you actually have anything *useful* to contribute? Or are you simply going to sit there and criticize? @Amie I would recommend finding a new farrier and taking your horse to the vet at the very least. Damp areas will make the laminitis worse. Keep your horse's hooves clean and dry. Discuss diet and exercise plan with your vet. NO WORK until the hooves are at 100%! Also, grain-rich diets will add to the problem as they can be heavy in sugar. Cut down on grain, and avoid treats for now. As for the sweet itch, apply some aloe or lavender oil. If using the latter, use a good quality oil (I use LorAnn Oils) and put down a carrier oil first, like coconut oil. Cover the area so insects and other horses cannot access it. Sweet itch is caused by certain species of midges, so good bug control is a must. Both peppermint and marigold are good at keeping bugs away. Take a packed cup of marigolds (heavy on the stems/leaves) and a sprig or two of peppermint and toss them in your blender with 2 cups of water. Blend together and pour into a glass jar with an airtight lid. Steep for 24-48 hours, shaking a couple times anytime you walk past. Strain/press, add 6 cups of water, put in spray bottle, and spray thoroughly. Store it in the fridge. Please get your horse to a vet as quickly as possible. They will be able to do more for your horse than random people on the internet. :)

@@warriormaiden9829 wondeful advice for you here, thank you Warrior! Laminitis is often a disease of the entire horse with effects seen in the feet. Look to address the weight issue as suggested with correct diet etc. In regards to the feet there are many options available to you including formahoof. @blackhellebore89
@blackhellebore89 4 жыл бұрын
The hair has been trimmed off his body but left in his legs. This is probably so he doesn't get too sweaty when he is being ridden and when he has winter covers on. They can get irritated skin when they sweat to much. It's also harder to dry them after they've been washed when they have their winter coat

Racing does have many welfare issues to address on a global scale, however it is also responsible for huge advances in equine veterinary medicine and research. I can assure you that those racehorses I'm exposed to here in the UK are some of the most cared for animals I have come across.

@Warren Humphrey Many of the horses who "never would have been born" end up being slaughtered. What can we do? Stop breeding--there are more horses than homes already. Adopt, if you're qualified. Otherwise, stay as far away as possible from this cruel 'sport'.
@user-bx7nw1ve6y

@@AlexRidgewayFarrier I doubt you are routinely exposed to literally thousands of OTTBs that are slaughtered because they are injured or are not successful on the track. Medical breakthroughs are common and increasing with other breeds. The industry uses this excuse way more than it is justified.

Underrun OTTB feet are common. Mine had the same problem when I brought her home 10 years ago. My solution was to learn how to perform natural trimming/care myself and my horses' feet are healthier than ever. I do what needs to be done on my own schedule and, after an initial $300 outlay for a hoof stand, rasp, nippers and knife, cut my foot care expenses to $0. This, frankly, looks like expensive and time-consuming smoke and mirrors. Also, colors? Really?
@ottch8670
@ottch8670 4 жыл бұрын
@1 1 so you are an unqualified amature who for $300 is willing to hack and chop at a horses foot I believe you should never be allowed near a horse in fact you should be charged with animal cruelty it takes a 4 year apprenticeship to become a farrier, not just I watched a video on youtube, read a book or did a 2 day trimmers course, you are an idiot

You had to put it on because you raced a colt while their hoofs were forming and he was racing in the mud and hard ground and it was destroying his feet because they were pushing him to go faster and faster and faster being hit by a whip and a hard bit in his mouth that was hurting and terrible Sorry I hate people that jump, race, barrel race, or do dressage because it is not normal for a horse to do those things
