For those wondering copper sulfate is an natural fungaside / antibacterial for use in organic applications. I use it to cure black spot / leaf curl on my peach n stone fruit tree leaves and helps prevent bark rott. Wild blackberry bushes tend to spread rampant fungus infections. Also the petrolium jelly will prevent moisture contact with the frog. Im a blacksmith but also tend my orchid so this is all best guess, im not a farrier. I've also treated my ducks feet with petrolium jelly for mites and dry scale. Now ill consider adding some copper sulfate to that too if theres a suspected fungal problem ... great inspiration and hey "the more u know .......... " (from Australia)

How I wish we had this stuff 30 odd years ago, when my horse took a year at least to grow a stable sole after a horrible hoof abscess. He’d grow a sole, then it would separate and fall off back to an extremely thin virtually pink sole. Eventually he managed to retain a sole.

Great video!! I've been a farrier for 15 years & one of my clients has a horse with white line, Oxine AH is an amazing hoof soak to treat white line. His hoof effected by fungi is nearly grown out, by next trim he'll be sitting better. I'm really happy with that stuff. I've also had my client put pea gravel in her stalls, I think that's helped a lot also as his hooves dry out well overnight. Fungi like damp, dark places, dry up their environment & it goes away. (Easier said than done in spring right? 😉)

Interesting techniques for the treatment of laminitis. My family has been involved with horses; 40 years ago wooden clogs and foamahoof wasn't considered. If the horse couldn't hold a nail ed shoe, glue ons would be used. Unfortunately laminitis is a complicated condition to treat, with many different factors. Even something as minor as an injury to the leg can set it off, when combined with obesity, eating a poor diet, exercising on hard ground and a pre-existing medical condition. Aero is blessed with an owner who is prepared to do what ever is possible to make him comfortable, he is also lucky to have such a skilled farrier and vet, I hope Aero is able to recover soon. The KZbin channel "Happy Hoof" showed a video in 5 part video called "The tragedy of Laminitis" . These videos told the fate of a 12 yr old arab mare called Cat Dancer with laminitis so severe the narrator could feel the pedal through the sole. The "farrier" was a friend of the owner, who swore blind when he saw the mare the week before she didn't have laminitis. I am neither a vet nor a farrier, but it takes a while for the pedal bone to penatrate the sole. The owner claimed that Cat Dancer was showing signs of discomfort for 4 weeks, a vet said she was ok and so allegedly did her friend. When a qualified farrier arrived that evening, she applied boots with Styrofoam hoof Rx pads and summoned a vet. The farrier informed the vet on arrival the next day what she found; hot hooves, throbbing digital pulses, limited hoof attachments on all four feet. The vet examined Cat Dancer and it was determined that due to the untreated laminitis the mare was suffering. Aged just 12, Cat Dancer was put down.

That's a sad story. Unfortunately I am not familiar with the case and wouldn't like to comment without knowing the full story. Laminitis is a terrible disease however if managed correctly and at the right time there is alot that can be done especially now with these sort of techniques too

@@AlexRidgewayFarrier This mare was in the USA, there was a examination post mortem; it appears the mare may have had diabetes or Cushings (lab results are pending). Her owner, who loved horses but lacked the facilities, money and knowledge on modern horse care ideas to assist in Cat Dancer's recovery. This was combined with waiting until the pedal bone had penetrated the sole before seeking help. Thank you for replying, but this is the latest update.

Dear Alex Ridgeway Farrier, It's always been a huge concern of mine seeing horses in Boston MA walking on the concrete with thick metal shoes all day long it's absolutely unnatural and it's always been a thought thought that someone could create a lightweight shoe with replaceable vibram-like brake pad set up. Basically, a circle on top of the metal of a half inch of thick vibram super rubber material could absorb a ton of the stress and shock and increase the horse's longevity! I don't know if you guys just thought about this, (the ankles joints of workhorses in the city) a lot of horses I could really use your help! The last horse I saw was pulling a carriage and did not look happy... Thanks for what you guys do! 👍

Right now she's in soft rides. I really do believe that the clogs would even be better for her. I do have a video of the vet visit if you would like me to email that to you for your review. It's compromising and weighing up the pros and cons to most things. If we understand the negative effects of shoeing we can make better decisions as and when required for the longevity and overall comfort to each and every horse. Formahoof already is international, it was developed in Dubai and is now manufactured in Greece with use now all over the world.
