Video notes. Excuse the intro footage, the frame rate didn't match the video edit, and thus looks really bad quality. Secondly about the mascot logo designs, there is something else to consider. Mascot logos are common with sporting and team brands. Why? Well firstly it helps give a team and the followers of that team a face to follow, allowing them to unite together as a ‘side’. Also, a mascot helps a team in terms of being able to sell branded merchandise, like hats and t-shirts with the mascot on.

When designers work on a logo, a lot of time they supply the client with variations of it to use in certain situations. Sometimes just the typography will be needed, other times just the brandmark or logo. Take a look at the English Premier League logo for example

I've touched upon this in an entire video. I don't see it as a specific type of logo, more an adaption that is likely necessary for the future of any brand.

Great video! A question I juggle to explain myself and wonder if you have an answer... what's the difference between brandmark and mascot logos types? For example, with Twitter would that be in some way considered both? Thanks, love the videos! 🙏
@JohnDoe-xm1ir2 жыл бұрын
I think that mascot logo types have more emotions and features, which the twitter logo lacks. On the top right of page 10 in the Twitter External Brand Guidelines, it tells you not to personify the twitter logo. I think that's to avoid making it look like a mascot. However I'm also new to design so this line of thinking may be incorrect haha
@SatoriGraphics2 жыл бұрын
You are pretty much there. A mascot is quite cartoonish or illustrative, as apposed to a refined and simplified brandmark.
@CheckMyVitals2 жыл бұрын
@@SatoriGraphics that's a good criteria to have. I find I confuse myself again when I try and categorize sports logos - and refinement and character can be interpreted differently. The Atlanta Hawks are a great example where I can twist myself around both ways
@crossxer60992 жыл бұрын
Actually you are all somewhat correct and at the same time wrong. A mascot logo has several meanings dependent on the context. In sports and military there are mascots that are also refered as talismans. Usually its just an animal that is done in cartoon style. The reason why they use mascots because mascots/talismans are a luck bringers. It has this whole culture and history going back to ancient times, so thats why they use animal for it and why they draw it with more illustrative features. And then there are mascot logos that are not in the industry of sports or military etc but rather in business. These mascots are actually a logos made for characters. For instance KFC is also a mascot logo a mascot being a creator and his face is in a logo. Other examples mcdonalds clown cocacola santa or polar bear, nestquick chocolate bunny etc. These are characters that sell you a story and a product and are completely different type of mascots from sport mascot logos.
@faiqcreates2 жыл бұрын
@@crossxer6099 i heard a theory that when a brand is targeted towards kids, mascots (not in logo but as a brand persona in general) should be used for every theme so children can remember the story behind these mascots. Like a brand that is fighting air pollution and planting trees. So that brand will use two types of mascots or characters. One will represent cleaning air, other one will plant trees. What my question is, is there any truth to this theory?

my point of view, a guy has arm and legs, and a tail, and a shlong huge log. XD but great design.
@isaacmecia82082 жыл бұрын
These aren't real strong reasons. The main reason to choose a type of logo comes from the sector the brand belongs to. For example, if you're working with the fashion sector you'd choose monograms because the most of the brand use it (Chanel, Louis Vuitton, etc.). It's a matter of analyzing the whole brand and its sector, not just say "oh, this brand's name is long, I'll choose a monogram"
@SatoriGraphics2 жыл бұрын
Not really. In fact the argument could be made against that. There are plenty of brandmark fashion labels, and also combination marks that border on the mascot realm such as the fashion label Lacoste. Yes there is something to be said about the industry sector standard, but that shouldn't be set in stone. Thinking like that is an easy way to ensure the brand becomes lost in a sea of other brands. You need to focus on the target audience and what resonates with them. After all, that is who the design is targeted at.
@isaacmecia82082 жыл бұрын
@@SatoriGraphics Lacoste is not a fashion label like Chanel or Prada, which audience can be very elitist. Lacoste can be matched with brands like Ralph Lauren or Tommy Hilfiger. If you see, those brands use symbol + logotype in most of the cases, and their product is similar. Logo design is based on paradigms. Look at college logos, they often use geometric figures and torches. Also, a logo shouldn't always stand out from its competitors, it depends on the case. I return to the fashion label example: brands like Giorgio Armani, boss, Marc Jacobs, Dior, Gucci, etc, use monogram or logotype and the color black, because their striking factor is their product, so they logo has to be sober, it doesn't need to highlight. In addition, it doesn't really matter if they get lost in a sea of brands
