Man, that was right on the point, Make a full 1hr tutorial with a proper workflow like a short film full correction and grade which can serve as a blueprint for newbies. I want a full-length tutorial which gives me enough knowledge to start grading confidently

Best Davinci Color Grading teacher that I ve seen so far. You do a great work overall. Especially your HDR tutorial is amazing. I like the simplicity that you apply to explain complex informations. And it s nice to see that you came back to KZbin. My first music video on my channel is based on your knowledge from this Skin Color tutorials. I was my entry to Davinci. A long while ago, and a lot of other tutorials from other channels past by. Now, seeing your content you can see the big diference between somebody who s explaining the tool while others just show you how they use these tools. Your tutorials leave space to find your own way to use them. Thank you. And keep goin

Wonderful analysis, glad you're back. In a world of beginner tutorials, "Instant Teal & Orange Color Grade" videos, and LUT pack advertisements... this is invaluable content. Not even dissing the other stuff, just saying it comprises most of what's out there! I guess the path to views is what it is, but I really appreciate videos like this one. Knowing what your color controls are truly doing is the real path to good grades, and this took me beyond my previous understanding of the tools at my disposal. Thank you!

Avery - I was in that original discussion and remember it well - what I don't remember is what your original claim was. So the summary of this analysis is what I thought the sat and color boost was in the first place - sat will increase or decrease all hues together, and color boost will move up and down on the least to most saturated color hues, with a curve that keeps a consistent blend in the saturation. A really well thought out presentation here - I have mostly used negative color boost to lessen saturation on color that is distracting because of it's high saturation. What I didn't see here is the difference from staying at a level - increasing one and then compensating by decreasing the other. I assume that it just evens out - but would be nice to prove that with this kind of set-up. Can you do a personal test and let me know if it is the same? Thanks - shows a lot of maturity and respect when someone admits to a mistake, and then investigates and learns from it. When you talk to successful business people, or scientists, - that is a running commentary. Great job Avery.
@averypeck
@averypeck 4 жыл бұрын
Thank you Jim! I'll keep your comment in mind for the follow up video because I think others would like to see what happens when you use the tools together too. To give you a quick answer, negative color boost will quickly crush low saturation pixels to 0 while having a minimal effect on high saturation pixels, then positive sat will scale those new values back up linearly. The crushed areas will remain at 0 after the Sat up adjustment. Going the other way, you'll get that "boosted" curve from turning color boost up, then sat down will gain everything down linearly. So the shape of the curve will remain the same (areas of low saturation will remain boosted), but all values will be scaled down based on the Sat control. Hopefully that makes sense!

Really excellent and very clever analysis done using your script to visualize saturation changes as plotted along a familiar (B&W) graph line. I am sure this original method of yours will find lots of application by others who also need new tools to grapple with ever-elusive color control. Thanks! I love the idea of doing CST to HSL to compare those things and visualize how every single value is some kind of function that is applied to your image. I will do this for Luminance and see if the wheels and the HL/Shadow values behave the way I expected it. As well as the soft clips of an aggressive curve.
