A go pro on a shelf or some other secret location would be fantastic to record Grandpa. Maybe not for publishing but for your personal files. After Grandpa goes to the 80 acres in the sky you might share a story every now and then. You probably could get your Dad in on the project. Between the two of you, you could pull on the right strings and get 30 stories. Get the history now, because you might not be here tomorrow causing a break in history.

I've used bolts like that for a fuel dipstick before (on tractors without a gauge), but I always take a flat piece of steel and drill a hole in it (to make kind of a large washer) so that it can't fall into the tank 🤣

Really good video, Ross. I enjoyed meeting some of your family and it was very interesting watching you all interacting. a couple of tires I've repaired didn't want to seat too well on one side like it looks you had issue with. I've pumped them up most of the way, removed from the tire stand and drop-bounce the tire, rotate a bit, drop-bounce, and so on around and that impact flexing can get them to knock against the bead. Then air up to target.

Ross-ask you grandpa about his parents and grandparent. If your grandpa grew up during the depression and world war II, ask him how the depression and war years effected his family. If he served in the war ask him were he went in the war and what he did. Ask him if he remembers any of the people he served with. If he went to a rural school, ask him about that experience-who his teachers were, who his friends were, what games they played, what farm equipment he used.

For your Grandfather Qs: I was looking through a pdf of an old 'best practices' corn planting booklet from 1938 (I'm sure well predates your grandfather) and they had quite a bit to say about cover crops and basically regenerative agriculture -- all of which is the modern hot topic (that's where I'm running), perhaps he has an opinion on the modern proposals. How did your grandfather plant corn when he started out? Corn seed varieties, row widths, seed spacing? How could a young kid starting today with say 1950s antique equipment and no chemicals using heirloom seed start crop farming? How to size a tractor to a farm acres, if you have one or two old tractors? How to figure minimum number of acres needed to support a farm, using vintage equipment (so no loans), no chemicals, and open-pollinated seed. All these young kids think they need five hundred horsepower wrapped in new paint but the debt load is hard. ... (My father started farming with a brand new Oliver 880 on a 100 acre 40-head dairy farm with a ten year old AC-WD and Ferguson TO35. He had a two-bottom steel wheel pull plow for the AC and a three-bottom rubber wheel pull plow for the Oliver -- he did that for a decade before upgrading to a five bottom Farmall 806 setup he bought at auction).

Hi from north east Pa.! That was really cool seeing family in this one! I was confused when I heard another voice and then you started talking to it. I didn't notice someone in the golf cart lol. I kept thinking that might be his Grampa's voice and we'll meet him too. I'll try not to ramble on too long, but I look forward to come home at night to see what you're up to next. I don't know why, but sitting down with my coffee and watching something taken apart and fixed is entertaining. Even though that's what I do all day lol. Even if we just ride around the field with you mowing weeds down. You're a good guy to hang out with and it sucks that we can't talk or ask questions as it's going. My area was mostly dairy farms, that have slowly gone away. My Grampa raised potatoes but I missed out on the farming part. I still have the John Deere B my dad bought to replace the horses (that he hated lol). I guess that tractor caused a riff between Grampa and Dad. Dad then got into school bussing and a garage business in the late 50's. I've grown up around old tractors, buses and fixing what can't be fixed lol. When Dad got sick I took over the business in 2009. I struggle along every day to keep it going. I think that's part of my interest with your channel. The Family business. Doing what you love, and the struggle of keeping it going. Sorry for writing a book here, but I've wanted to message you for a while. I'm looking forward to the next adventure, whatever it might be!

It’s definitely a lot of pressure in a way to keep some thing going that your family has done for years and years. You don’t want to be the one that lets it fail but sometimes it’s really hard to keep going lol. Just Gotta keep doing whatever we can do and above all enjoy the ride.

That bolt was a tank bottom cleaner. AND, Grandpa and Dad plus you should sit down and start telling stories. Especially the "it is a wonder that boy did not kill himself when he ___________" My Mother in Law was very quiet but if you started a questioning line correctly the stories of long ago came falling out. Her story of being 4 years old and traveling in a 1918 Model T with all of their household items loaded on it and her brothers having to ride on the front fenders. That was a 3-month trip in which Dad spent more time working on the T than driving it. My MIL was born on the Crow Indian reservation, Hardin, MT, within a rocks throw of where Custer met his end. I always accused her of being an Indian who would scalp a son-in-law if needed. Her mother had homesteaded in MT as an 18-year-old. She met her dad, who was from ND and had homesteaded at Hardin, MT, and they combined their farms and went broke together. They ended up in Washington State working logging. Then her parents convinced them that they needed to return to Lawrence, County, IL, and farm the family ground as oil was struck on the ground and the oil income was being used to build a nice house in town and retire from farming. We still had Grandma wood beam Prairie plow she used to break ground in MT. It was lost in the building fire along with many other antiques related to my wife's family. Estella and I have traveled to all of the places where our parents learned to walk. Even to most places, our grandparents learned to walk. We live in the exact place Estella was conceived, and born, and as I tell her I am going to bury her ashes at that exact spot if she goes first. Convince Grandpa to sit down and let his mind start recalling things from the past on camera. That photos of his past equipment to trigger him to tell about them. If not, those memories will be forever gone, so hurry up. Time will soon swallow us old people. As you know, I am a professional storyteller. I tell stories in the hopes that someone (our kids and grandkids) will listen and carry those stories into the future. Just tell Grandpa he is the better looking of all of you and therefore the most photogenic.
@rosstheoliverman

A little stick, straw or stalk will find its way in and make a hole in the tube without a boot… and the sidewall flex will keep the boot from staying. They used to make a hot vulcanized boot fur dem dere problems. Ain’t seen deem fur years dough.

They kept it. In most situations it probably wouldn’t matter but just like the reply to the comment, if you were doing hay with the tractor usually that’s when you find all the sins in your tire. Something will find its way in the hole and puncture the tube
