Christmas lights hang like icicles that sway in the perpetual breeze. On the highest peaks of the Sistema Central, snow has begun to form a white wall as if to solidify our northern border with Castilla y Leon. Ever since that cold front rolled through just ahead of Halloween, northern Extremadura has been cold and windy. Yet when I raised the persianas on Saturday morning, I was surprised to see the sun was already blaring against the old town wall which lives next to me. I'd been spending most of my time indoors for weeks, staring at screens. I'd been feeling sluggish, lazy. Everything in the apartment felt damp and sticky.
I grabbed my camera bag and threw on shorts and a T, then started walking.
Malpartida de Plasencia is a small town of about 4,000 inhabitants. It's the type of town that isn't really known for... well anything. It's a primarily residential town, built around a hill with a beautiful 15th century church at its peak. But to me, an american, I find this town fascinating. The way its cavernous streets frame the endless green countryside in all directions, how there's a functioning telephone booth in its square, and how people so much of it has been left unchanged since at least the 20th century. Small towns like this offer us a peak into how things used to be.

You should go to Trujillo. A historical small town. Patrimonio de la humanidad por la unesco

Thanks for the recommendation Pablo! I visited Trujillo last Spring. You're right, it is a beautiful town, and I would love to return with the camera.

@@Tyler_Teacher I also recommend you go to Trujillo, and visit the church of Santa María la Mayor, to see the tomb of a hero of the Spanish golden century (16th century), Diego García de Paredes, if he had been English or American, would have several movies and series to tell his life and feats. I recommend that you look for information about him, although most that you will find will be in Spanish. es.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diego_Garc%C3%ADa_de_Paredes_(1468-1533) Congratulations for your channel!
