As someone who's been obsessed with Deftones since their first album, nothing makes me happier than seeing someone experience their music for the first time and becoming completely enthralled in the feelings it evokes.

Most of the songs they have covered have been from 80's artists. You should check out their version of If Only Tonight We Could Sleep by The Cure. Its from a live performance at a tribute for The Cure. They are pretty much the only band that can cover those guys and do it justice.

The first time I saw the Deftones live was their tour for this album. House of blues in New Orleans and they opened the show with be quite and drive. One of the best nights of my life. You should review their b-sides and rarities album. Anyway, keep up the awesome work Tony!

@@tonywhitburn Thank you for making these awesome reactions. I didn't realize it at the time but I was extremely fortunate to catch them with Chi. You are right about Sergio. He had the daunting task of stepping in for Chi and has done a phenomenal job. I cant wait for the new album! I also wanted to add that Stephen came out to mingle with us fans a few hours before the show. He was super cool and really stoned, but he still went out that night and tore the house down.

Chino is a huge fan of 80's New wave music and it definitely shows. SNW is their weirdest album for sure, but it's better than a lot of fans say it is. Pink Cellphone is the weakest song they've ever made, imo, but the rest of the songs have some really great stuff going for them. Beware is one of my favorite songs ever by them and I think Riviere is the best closing track they've ever laid down.

Pink cellphone is really good though,the last part wasn’t even supposed to be in the song,the girl sung that part as a joke thinking the band would scrap it but they kept it

The lowest point in Deftones career, and they turned it into this beautiful album. The band was about to disband, they were all having peesonal issues with drugs, alcohol and secs addiction, and Chino was divorcing his now ex-wife (Rats!Rats!Rats!, Combat, Kimdracula, Rivière, they all talk about some of those feelings of betrayal, heartache, self-harm, etc). Holy, one of my fav, if not my fav Deftones album.

You definitely need to listen to some King Krule. Start with 6 Feet Beneath The Moon (the guitars on that album are delicious) and then if you enjoy that listen to The Ooz. His fusion of Indie Rock with Jazz and bossanova influences makes his music extremely memorable and replayable.

This is my least favorite Deftones album, but that said it does have some of their finest moments ("Xerces", "Cherry Waves", "Riverie", "Kimdracula"). It's just far too disjointed and I know too much behind the scenes stuff that it kinda dampers the whole experience for me. A few notes: Though it's true that the band was apart for a lot of this recording, not for the entire record. The whole band did write together at Morning View Studios in CA for a bit and then went up to CT to record with Bob Ezrin for a few months before Chino just started disappearing because he just was not vibing with Ezrin or the rest of the band. Chino lobbied for a bit to get Ken Andrews from Failure to replace Ezrin as producer but eventually just agreed to return and then just left altogether later to tour with his Team Sleep project leaving the rest of the band in the lurch. - eventually Chino brought in band friend and producer Shaun Lopez (of the band Far and at the time The Revolution Smile and later Crosses with Chino) to record the rest of Chino's vocals but they wound up taking a lot of the Ezrin recorded instrumentals and reworking some of those too. Lopez' s contribution wound up being so substatianal that he received a co-producer credit as well. - The vocalist on "Pink Cellphone" is Annie Hardy of the band Giant Drag, and the fact that the joke verse at the end made it on the finished album just shows how little the band cared about this record at that point, they just wanted to move on. It's a shame as it's funny once but it kind of ruins the listening experience going forward. - I know you have mentioned liking Refused before, did you notice their influence on this record with the rolling drums? You can hear the Mogwai influence too even more pronounced than before. - The cover of The Cars' song "Drive" is actually just an iTunes bonus track and not on the actual album, it's also not even technically a Deftones song. The cover is actually from Shaun Lopez's band The Revolution Smile and this was just a take where Chino added vocals to it. Great review otherwise and glad you dug it!
@tonywhitburn4 жыл бұрын
Haha, yeah, man... sometimes knowing too much ruins the experience a little. You are right; Deftones weren't exactly deep into this record and it shows, but it does have some bangers. That info you shared is very insightful, and now I understand better why some things are like they are. I like that little Refused easter egg was unexpected, but now that you mention it, it will be hard not to think about it next time. Thanks for sharing and for watching. Cheers, Joey!

This too generic for me, when I was a kid i used to like. But idk I found you from crystal castles so, my metal is more heavy and dark, you should try big brave, she's so haunting and heavy, or The body, he is probably too crazy for most ppl, or try crystal castles suffocation, or pap smear, transgender, or electric moon they're dark Psy, idk good video but I don't like this band..oh try healung they will blow you away. They're primal. I just know alot of cool music different music, and yea that's not even my favorite artists I named. Great vid Still

@@Therealfakemaxgoldberg for metal elitists it seems that anything that isn’t heavy, it means that it’s also generic. Idk why that’s the case though.
