My people were Bronx Irish (Murphy Murchadha) on mom's side- right off the boat 1900s.)- but that's (the Irish part of the Bronx) all gone. Southie is a different world with quite the history. The actors have some of the tones and rhythms of 3-4 generation Irish American kids. Nobody is poking fun at anyonep. That's what I responded to . It would have been neat if Molly Shannon had played Rachel's part just because Molly is native irsh but grew up here.

But linguists have actually found that out of all the various American accents from the North, Northeast, Midwest, East & West coasts etc (& yes I know those are just regions of accents, the regions have many accents in each state) it’s Southern accents that are linguistically most like our founding fathers & mothers, or the original British colonizers of the South. An exception to this would be a creole, Louisiana accent because they were so heavily influenced by the French instead. Know what actors (who aren’t southern) best imitate southern accents in movies, tv, plays etc? British actors! They do a crazy good job of it. Props to the Brits. 👏🏻🇺🇸😉🇬🇧👍🏻 Lol
