Your side note is the joke Sylvia. Not only does sitting at a desk not need any practice but Seth's whole job at SNL was sitting behind a desk. He has the most desk sitting experience of any new late night host ever.

actually, it's become more of a game now than anything. John Mulaney, the man who wrote Stefon with Bill after the first couple appearances began downright messing with Bill by including random jokes that would make Bill break character. Every time you see Bill break down, it's because something John wrote (that he has never seen before) was just thrown at him on air.

+Nikoo Ahmadi Lorne Michaels and Paramount wanted to make it happen. But Bill Hader and John Mulaney ultimately decided against it since they never could make the character work in a sketch and only on Weekend Update. But Recently John was asked about it again by Jimmy Fallin a few months back when he was promoting his now cancelled, The John Mulaney show, and said they were talking about it again but haven't gotten any closer to saying yes...😕😒

In an interview, Hader said that his co-writer for the Stefon sketches would change his cue cards between the dress rehearsal and the performance, so Hader would read something he hadn't seen before. It was a trick they had for keeping it fresh. No question the Dan Cortese running joke was the late addition this time.

I don't know... I'm not sure it would work as a standalone sketch, much less a full movie. If he were a main character he'd have to be either neutered or he'd be incredibly obnoxious. That said, I would LOVE to see Stefon show up in a cameo or non-promoted scene-stealing supporting role in a completely different movie. Just imagine him in a role like the LeBron role in Trainwreck (or Marv Albert's in the intervention at the end of that movie) or anything where he just comes out of left field (like he does in these Weekend Update skits). Or maybe he's just the random husband of some other character that shows up halfway through the movie, or the proprietor of some weird club that the main characters show up to somewhere in the 2nd act. THAT would be fun for me to see. FWIW, I would also say this exact same thing about the Geoff Peterson character from the Craig Ferguson incarnation of the Late Late Show.
