Aayyyy, what are you speaking about? Most of us located in Northern New Jersey (myself directly across the Hudson from Manhattan) do acquire the accent thru childhood assimilation. However, we are capable of using words in their correct context and are not exclusively grandchildren of ancestors born in "Itly". Piscopo unequivocally slew New Jersey's representation of its citizens on SNL prior to this skit, "The Sopranos" sealed the coffin.

As a former ASL/English Interpreter, I’ve gotta tellya they both earned it in their first 2 acts! Nevah saw such a NYC beginning interpreter accent so perfectly hit. Not even by actual NYC beginning ASL interpreters in ASL ‘terping classes. My personal fluidity in New Jersey English keeps me from commenting on that portion.
@Greg-yu4ij9 ай бұрын
Why do politicians use ASL interpreters for minor stuff when closed captioning is ubiquitous now? I realize I’m arguing against your job, but it seems like the ASL interpreters are there just to make politicians look more important
@andiward70688 ай бұрын
@Greg-yu4ij ASL is a separate language that is being interpreted, not just translated literally. A transcript or CC isn't necessarily accurate to the intended message. "Dislike, disagree and hate" have different meanings, an interpreter expresses which applies not necessarily what was said.
@ssl35462 ай бұрын
@@andiward7068 Ok so that's all the more reason to rely on closed captioning. If you're getting an official statement from the government you should read it in the original language, not some on-the-spot "interpretation" into a "separate language."
@amymcculloch78207 күн бұрын
@@ssl3546but also English isn’t taught very well in deaf schools so I know there’s a lot of deaf people who don’t understand English. ASL or BSL or whatever is their first language

@janwerner37009 жыл бұрын
+Jack Davids yes, Most of it does make sense, and while she substitutes the over-exagurated parts with miming, the rest is more or less comprehensible. though, I believe she signed party at one point instead of people.

This person mocking ASL is not an ASL Interpreter, its supposed to be funny. Why is this funny? "Good Morning (signed backwards and voice said good evening) Now 7 days (voice said 6) we've been impacted by snow Maybe "Open minded" (meant "dont-know" 2handed supposed to be one handed) power for me open mind for some ny people next week (gibberish)" The problem is, it's because of a common myth about this interpreter that worked with the mayor. The actual interpreter is a Certified Deaf Interpreter NOT an Interpreter for the Deaf. What that means the interpreter is actually a Deaf individual, he is fed the message by a hearing ASL Interpreter, and he uses a NATIVE Language of Deaf people. You may think he's more animated than the Interpreters you are used to on TV. There is a reason for that. He is interpreting into the language that's visual not auditory. So the person that speaks uses intonation to convey meaning, he interprets that into a visual form. Imagine you took a foreign language in high school. Your sound production often sounds like that of a four grader at best. When a native person from that country hears you, they would have to do extra work to reinterpret it to be able to understand your attempts to speak their language. (plus you can hear their language - Deaf People cannot) So an Interpreter that studies ASL or any language is often a "bit off", its because they are a second language learner (a term we use against learners of English) The interpreter that's being made fun of is not just your average Deaf individual, hes studied and trained, and is a Native user of ASL. Means: His family is Deaf too. So this is his first language. He passed the same National stringent test that ASL Interpreters take.

This was a very nice skit to watch, for me at least. I enjoyed it. I'm very impressed with how Ms. Cecily and Ms. Nasim portrayed the fun of physical comedy in sign language. It might seem pretty easy to watch but believe me it can be a little hard to pull that kinda funniness off. Atleast for me ! I mean they're probably all naturally funny people...😒😒... Still practice is needed everywhere Im really knowing that now...but still loved the sketch u guys!! And the real good ones sometimes get ignored or misunderstood so don't worry about the likes...🙌🙌😘
