Dude looks just like mine and RAN PERFECT! Fuck every one who talks shit..the problem is/was YES they burnt oil and no one checks there oil and every one knows what happens when run low/out of oil..if you check your oil and keep her fed I know people with well of 800k on engine still going strong

The main reason I put new pistons rings and rod bearings in it is there is a small flaw with the factory pistons that force them to burn oil, there is no drain holes in the oil ring grove and that causes them to burn the oil, so for $99 on ebay i got the upgraded pistons with the holes in them with rings, there is a easy way to drill the holes yourself but WTF they are already out so why not put new ones in. and rod bearings were only $20 and they were fine but again they were out already so why not put new ones in.

Yes, I just recently did the piston soak procedure on my SL2 which has 266,000 on it. Let it soak for a few days and my consumption went from 350 mi/qt to about 750 miles/qt. I would love to take my motor apart and replace them pistons or drill in the drain-back holes.

Good job, but I don't understand why you took the timing cover apart...

BECAUSE YOU MUST REMOVE THE TIMING CHAIN UNDER THE COVER TO REMOVE THE HEAD. I DID NOT TAKE THE TIMING COVER APART BECAUSE THERE IS NOTHING ON THE COVER BUT THE OIL PUMP WHICH I NEVER MESSED WITH.

ALSO THERE IS A KNOWN DEFECT WITH THE HEADS ON THESE THAT GETS OIL IN WATER BUT NOT WATER IN THE OIL. ON THE END VALVE BOLT ON #4 THEY CRACK
