New recipe: I just made a créme de cacao and tried to evoke a Jaffa Cake in a coupe. I'm close; it's not perfect (someone improve upon this): 45ml bourbon, 30 créme de cacao, 15 triple sec, 3ds orange bitters, stirred and served up. It's my best attempt to date, but honestly, that recipe would be better on a big rock in a lowball as an Old Fashioned. Two variables I wanna tweak: shake with egg white, and vary the spirit. I wonder if a brandy or an Irish whiskey would play better

So the cocktail which actually won in 1967 is called the Mallorca Cocktail, created by Enrique Bastante. The rum to use is difficult to pinpoint today. It's essentially the original Pampero rum (now just an okay-ish to mediocre column still molasses rum range, with the company owned by Diageo). A unique thing of some Latin American rums back then is that they were created with cane syrup (or cane honey), which in turn is just reduced cane juice. This will make the rum much more distinctive and flavorful, with just a hint of a grassy bite. I think the best chance you have is to see if Diplomatico has any rums known to be made with a pot still component, as they use cane syrup for the pot still component. Otherwise, you could add an aged (6+ year) column still rum to Probitas so you could maybe approximate it. Proportions which were provided essentially translate to (sorry for only ml measurements, I'm not American): 10ml of Cinzano Dry (ah, the dark ages), Drambuie (much better than the current version) and Bols Crème de Banane (it was what it was), then 30ml rum (Estelar Pampero). You did correctly predict the glass to be used: a cocktail glass. Source: hba-net.gr/iba-winning-cocktails-1955-1969/ Lastly, remember that the IBA is very biased towards Europe, hence that could be a reason that the Saturn didn't win. But maybe not as well.

It looks like you describe Rhum Agricole ??
@chrisdimal98695 ай бұрын
@@cyriltran1267 Agricole involves cane juice. Cane syrup is when you reduce the cane juice overtime. The flavor changes alongside the brix level (sugar content). This stands to reason that they will become different distillates. The key thing is that because molasses and cane juice became the industry standard, cane syrup stuff has mostly disappeared. Cane syrup rums also have a ridiculous flavor spectrum: Barbancourt 8 and Clairins are both made with cane syrup, but the first is easy going, while the second one is overwhelmingly funky.

I've made this once, but it was served up. For the garnish I cut a lemon wheel before squeezing and ran a pairing knife to remove the lemon flesh. So it was a complete ring, with a cherry in the middle. It looked pretty cool, and was delicious. I like Earth too. If anyone is having separation issues and would like to prevent it, add ¼ tsp (1.2 ml) of Xantham Gum per cocktail.

This drink is the whole reason why I made my own falernum. And orgeat. And Passion fruit syrup. Lately though I buy the Pitaya foods passion fruit pulp that come in cubes. I just add 4-5 cubes, rather than make it into syrup, to help cut down the sweetness. It's definitely a favorite. I also found the Port Light is a fantastic cocktail - Bourbon, Lemon Juice, Grenadine, and Passion Fruit.

This is a perfect example of the style of cocktail that comes together as its own unique flavor rather than a collection of distinct flavors that work together. Super refreshing and lightly funky from the falernum with a little bit of botanical gentleness. I love banana liqueur, but there’s no way this cocktail deserved to lose that competition.
